EASTER SUNDAY April 4, 2021 Parishioners, Family, and Friends, We are thankful you have chosen to share Easter celebration at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish. As we continue to add community activities to our calendar, you are always invited to attend. Feel free to take information available in the narthex, contact the parish office or visit our parish website: www.saintteresacalcutta.org Easter Message from Father Frank, Easter, 2021 Dear Parishioners, It has been two years since we were able to worship together inside our church on Easter morning. Last year, I was joined by seven other people to assist me in live-streaming our Easter Masses due to Covid-19. We are living in historically challenging times. To be honest, it feels like Lent actually started a little over a year ago. As challenging as this experience has been for all of us, perhaps we can also recognize the moments of grace we have witnessed along the way. Speaking personally, I have been honored to administer communion to parishioners who have been away for weeks or months. Some of these parishioners began to weep when they received Jesus in the Eucharist. These experiences will always be a gift for me and a profound witness. On Easter morning, Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Mary the mother of James, and others brought spices to anoint Jesus’ body only to discover in shock that the stone had been moved. The Lord’s tomb was empty. Two angels appeared and told them, “Why do you seek the living one among the dead. He is not here, but he has been raised.” As we hopefully find ourselves near the end of the pandemic, we can begin to ask ourselves: what is the boulder in my life that is keeping me from perhaps coming to church or from growing deeper in my relationship with Jesus? What stone needs to be removed so I can encounter the Risen Lord in the Eucharist in a deeper and more profound way this Easter season? On behalf of our staff, may God bless you and your loved ones this Easter Sunday! Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Frank Schuster Looking for Father Frank’s Homily? Divine Mercy Sunday April 11, 2021 What is Divine Mercy Sunday? In a series of revelations to St. Maria Faustina Kowalska in the 1930s, our Lord called for a special feast day to be celebrated on the Sunday after Easter. Today, we know that feast as Divine Mercy Sunday, named by Pope St. John Paul II at the canonization of St. Faustina on April 30, 2000. The Lord expressed His will with regard to this feast in His very first revelation to St. Faustina. The most comprehensive revelation can be found in her Diary entry 699: My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and a shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day are opened all the divine floodgates through which graces flow. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul in its relation to Me will contemplate My love and mercy throughout eternity. The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My mercy. In all, St. Faustina recorded 14 revelations from Jesus concerning His desire for this feast. Nevertheless, Divine Mercy Sunday is NOT a feast based solely on St. Faustina's revelations. Indeed, it is not primarily about St. Faustina — nor is it altogether a new feast. The Second Sunday of Easter was already a solemnity as the Octave Day of Easter. The title "Divine Mercy Sunday" does, however, highlight the meaning of the day. Year of the Family Prayer Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendor of true love; to you we turn with trust. Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic churches. Make us mindful of the sacredness of the family, and its beauty in God’s plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Graciously hear our prayer. Amen. For more information Visit: https://archseattle.org/YOF/
