Personally, I was more deeply exposed to Catholicism in Vietnam when I became friends with a Vietnamese seminarian while we were both in Letters from Mundelein Seminary. He introduced me to the food. The Vietnamese language has a natural melody to it. Even as people ~Julie are praying together in Vietnamese, it sounded as if Letter 82 the people were chanting the prayers in complete unison. The melodic beauty of the language came out even more when it was set to music. Ever since my first exposure to the Catholic Vietnamese expression of faith, I only wish that I could learn the language and enter more deeply into that beauty. THE STUMP OF JESSE WE JUST CELEBRATED JESUS’ THE CHRISTMAS NATIVITY PLAY BIRTHDAY BUT NOW WE’RE CELEBRATING HIS BAPTISM? JESUS TURNS 30 AFTER THREE WEEKS? You might say, “Peter has the answer. Fr. Ton Nguyen Associate Pastor He says, “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” 2 Peter 3: 8-9. It is true that God is outside of time but don’t forget that Jesus carries his human nature as well. A better answer for this question is we are following the liturgical calendar which marks the Church year, a sequence of seasons and feasts in the liturgy during a year’s time. In each liturgical year, we celebrate the entire life and paschal mystery of Jesus Christ. What is so significant about the Baptism of the Lord? It marks the beginning of Jesus’ ministry and confirms his identity as the Son of God. Does Jesus need to be baptized? The answer is Yes. But you might say, “Jesus has no sin, why does he need to be baptized?” Well, the answer is … your homework. ☺ The Baptism of the Lord once again calls us to live out our baptismal call—to be saints and to glorify God through our words and actions. The Christmas Nativity Play by Teens and Friends is a good example of living out our baptismal call — I’m so proud of them. If you missed the play, here is the YouTube link: Christmas Nativity Play 2021 at St Julie—https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=35bZbG2W658 Upcoming Teen-Ministered Masses Jan. 16-11:30am / Feb. 13-11:30am / Mar. 20-11:30am I LOVE BEING A PRIEST! STEWARDSHIP & GENEROSITY YEAR END CONTRIBUTIONS Due to IRS regulations, all contributions received through December 31 will be recorded as 2021 contributions. Contributions made on January 1, 2022, or after are required by law to be recorded as a 2022 contribution regardless of the type of envelope used or the date on the check. If a contribution dated in December was mailed to the parish office and is postmarked on or before December 31, it will be recorded as a 2021 contribution. However, all contributions delivered to the parish office in person, left in the drop box, or postmarked on or after January 1, must be recorded as a 2022 contribution. Therefore, even if a check was dated in December 2021, but mailed, left in the drop box, or delivered to the parish office in January, that contribution must be recorded as a 2022 contribution. Contribution statements will only be provided upon request and will be available mid to late January 2022. Statements can be picked up at the parish office, mailed or emailed. Please designate the preferred method of receipt when requesting the statement. We thank you for your generosity and are truly grateful for all you do for St. Julie Billiart! We prayerfully request that you consider signing up for eGiving from your computer, smartphone, or tablet. You can set up a recurring donation or make a one-time gift. Sign up today by visiting faith.direct/IL834 or text ‘Enroll’ to (708.286.5777). Thank you for your continued support of our parish. Peace, LEGACY PLANNING Have You “Insured” Our Parish? A life insurance gift is a powerful and simple way to provide future support for our parish. Here are two ways to give a gift of life insurance to St. Julie Billiart parish. Name our parish as a beneficiary of the policy. Simply update your beneficiary designation form with your policy holder and list the primary or contingent beneficiary as: “St. Julie Billiart,” The Catholic Bishop of Chicago, a Corporation Sole” Make an outright gift of an existing policy. You can irrevocably name our parish as owner and beneficiary of a policy with accumulated cash value that you and your family no longer need. You qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction when you itemize on your taxes. Also, if you continue to pay premiums on the policy, each payment is tax deductible as a charitable gift, if you itemize. For more information on making a gift of life insurance to our parish, we recommend you consult with your financial planner, attorney or insurance representative. Please contact St. Julie Billiart (708.429.6767) with any additional questions or contact Krystina M. Campbell, Planned Giving Officer, Archdiocese of Chicago at 312.534.5404 or kcampbell@archchicago.org with any additional questions.
