Let the racing begin... NZ MILLENNIUM CUP 2021 ENTRANTS Aschanti IV The 1954-built schooner, Aschanti IV, stretches over 34.8 metres and was built by Burmester before an extensive refit in 1994 at Lurssen. This is her first year taking up the NZ Millennium Cup challenge in the Bay of Islands, though she competed in the first NZ Millennium Cup which was raced alongside the 2000 America’s Cup in Auckland. We’re excited to have Aschanti IV campaigning for the NZ Millennium Cup again in 2021. Catalina Welcome to the 45-metre Dubois-designed, Vitters- built yacht Catalina. Sassafras Graceful Sassafras cuts a beautiful figure across our Bay of Islands backdrop. The Royal Husiman-built yacht’s roomy interior, designed for cruising comfort, doesn’t hinder her agility around a course. We’re looking forward to seeing this 34.2 metre back on the course in 2021 as she lines up against fellow former entries, Silvertip and Tawera. Tawera Previous winner of multiple editions of the Cup, Tawera, returns. This 28 metre ketch was built in New Zealand to a design by Ron Holland, and has proven herself to be an excellent campaigner in her previous appearances in the Cup. Equipped with a sail wardrobe of 2016 North 3Di sails, we’re looking forward to seeing her turns of speed on the course in 2021. NEW ZEALAND MILLENNIUM CUP REGATTA 15th February to 18th February 2021 Sailing Instructions Amendment No 1 ADD to SI 16 SAFETY REGULATIONS 16.4 All yachts will be issued two Pantaenius Laser Rangefinders to be used by crews to determine distance between yachts. Rangefinders shall be returned to the race office after all racing has concluded. Rangefinder instructions can be found as Attachment “A” to the SI’s. NEW ZEALAND MILLENNIUM CUP PANTAENIUS RANGEFINDER INSTRUCTIONS Sailing Instructions – Attachment A The Superyacht Racing Association would like to express their appreciation to Pantaenius Yacht Insurance for their generous contribution of 80 Nikon Rangefinders to help ensure safe racing at SYRA sanctioned superyacht events. Please be sure that you turn the Pantaenius Rangefinder back in to the Event Organizer following the last race. All SYRA sanctioned superyacht regattas are sailed under the Racing Rules of Sailing 2017 - 2020 and Appendix SY. The changes to the RRS through this appendix are all based on the fundamental need to keep appropriate distance between superyachts and 40 meters is the designated “minimum separation.” (SY2.1 defines Keep Clear as One boat keeps clear of another if the other can sail her course with no need to take avoiding action and with no less than 40 metres between boats.) Each yacht entered in this regatta will be issued two Pantaenius Rangefinders for use by the crew to assure that a minimum of 40 metres separation is maintained at all times. It will be particularly useful in overtaking situations (SY2.8, rule 17.2). Please use the Pantaenius Rangefinder to help maintain the minimum separation and in overtaking situations. Yachts encroaching within the prescribed 40 meter minimum distance will have broken a critical, fundamental racing rule and marginalized safety on the race course. Easy to Use: Press the POWER button A to turn the Pantaenius Rangefinder on. Confirm that the Pantaenius Rangefinder is set to metres (default is yards). If it is necessary to change the display to metres Press and Hold the MODE button B for two seconds until the display changes to metres. The Pantaenius Rangefinder shuts off automatically 8 seconds after the last operation. To take a measurement press the Power button A and the LCD illuminates, align the reticle on the target and press and hold the Power button again until the display appears as it does in the picture, right side above. To obtain the best results try to select bright colored targets with large, shiny, highly reflective surfaces. Warning: The Pantaenius Rangefinders are waterproof, but not submersible, please take care to keep them dry and in good condition. Never look directly at the laser or directly into the sun when using the rangefinder. Do not depress the POWER button while looking in the optics from the objective side. Do not aim at anyone’s eye. Complete instructions are available in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese here. PLEASE RETURN THE PANTAENIUS RANGEFINDER TO THE EVENT ORGANIZER IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE LAST RACE New Zealand Millennium Cup – Pantaenius Rangefinder Instructions – Sailing Instructions Attachment A NZ Millennium Cup 2021 | 27
