Welcome It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that we welcome the rowing world to Victoria, home of the 2018 World Rowing Coastal Champion- ships (2018 WRCC). We are thrilled to be the first location in North America to host this international event. Our vision is to host a championship that provides an excellent experience for athletes, as well as spectators and volunteers. Our goal is to make this regatta a catalyst for the development of coastal rowing on the West Coast of Canada. We are committed to supporting the local community and running a regatta that respects the natural environment. Join us for an exceptional championship in a spectacular setting. Race with a breathtakingly beautiful backdrop in a pristine environment. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, abundant wildlife such as porpoise and orca whales, tall trees and rocky islands, Victoria is an adventure playground by the ocean. Come row in a gorgeous setting and be welcomed by warm Canadian hospitality. Tulista Park in the Town of Sidney is within Greater Victoria and offers an ideal venue for 2018 WRCC. A long, straight and gently sloping pebble beach offers the opportunity for the first-ever beach start for the championships. The racing will be on Bazan Bay. While the bay is protected from ocean swells, racers will have challenges of tidal currents, wind, waves and the potential of tricky waters created by the interactions of wind and tide. Sidney is a safe, compact and friendly community, with all amenities in easy walking distance of the venue. The city of Victoria, a unique blend of old world charm and new world experiences, is only a short distance away. Extend your stay to enjoy the beauty and nature of Vancouver Island and naturally spectacular British Columbia. We are ready and eager to host the world’s best coastal rowers in October. Welcome to Canada and Sidney! Yours sincerely, Julien Bahain Regatta Director On behalf of WRCC 2018 Organizing Committee Page 3
Greetings from the World Rowing Federation Welcome to Victoria! After a very busy and exciting year, we come to the final World Rowing event of the 2018 season – the World Rowing Coastal Championships. For the first time the coastal championships will be held in North America and the organisers in Victoria have been working tirelessly to make this regatta a great success. It is exciting to see how coastal rowing is growing, and by bringing this premium event to new continents we hope to build on the momentum that coastal rowing has – harnessing the natural seas and oceans that exist to provide beautiful competition venues for our sport. In line with this growth we will be producing a full video production of racing for the first time. This will allow anyone from anywhere in the world to watch the racing. It is also exciting to see a new event in the programme for the World Rowing Coastal Championships – the mixed double sculls. Mixed events have proven to be popular at many events across the world and I am sure that this will be no exception. Sidney and Victoria will prove to be a spectacular location for these Championships – the natural beauty is there for all to see. Let us hope that we will be blessed with a visit from the famous locals, the orcas, which feature prominently in the event logo. On behalf of FISA I would like to thank the Organising Committee for the enormous amount of work that has gone into making this event happen. I am always impressed to see how motivated and dedicated the numerous volunteers and the organisers are to accomplish their tasks. I thank you very much for that. I would like to welcome all athletes and I wish them the very best in delivering a performance that they can be proud of and that they reach their objectives. I would also like to welcome the support staff, spectators, media, officials and those involved in making this event happen. FISA President, Jean-Christophe Rolland Page 4

Uniforms Team managers and crew captains are reminded that they are required to display their family name and country code on the front of their uni- form and only their three letter country code on the back. Extract from the 2017 FISA Rule book: The rules allow two sizes for family names, athletes with short names should use the first option [50mm x 120-150mm in uppercase]. Athletes with long names should use the second option [50mm x 150mm in lower case]. Example of a uniform with a short family name. Front Back There is no specification on the way the wording is placed onto the uni- form. This can be through an attachment or with the letters directly print- ed onto the uniform. The example in the picture used vinyl lettering, done in a t-shirt printing shop costing EUR 5 or CAD 8 in total. Other teams have used fabric labels attached to the uniforms with safety pins.
