SOLO panels, creations to inspire Patented system: alabaster As a passionate sculptor with a love for alabaster, ten years ago I began with a rough block of stone integrated lighting element to invent and develop with my team numerous architectural alabaster creations renowned to this metal frame day throughout the world. 30 mm In order to further expand the possibilities of this fabulous translucent stone, I offer the Solo concept. The alabaster, along with its lighting element is presented as one unit with a slim profile, an optimized cost, and easier installation. It is now possible to integrate alabaster in numerous new applications. . Alain Ellouz 4 SOLO CONCEPT creations to inspire Atelier Alain Ellouz 5

For the past 10 years, Atelier Alain Ellouz has been the specialist in alabaster work, and chooses its stones directly from the quarries. It requires a large quantity of material to be extracted in order to select the best materials with the right size, hardness, transparency, and figure for your project. Atelier Alain Ellouz stocks more then 3,000 plates of alabaster, which are constantly being renewed. . 8 SOLO CONCEPT quarr y Atelier Alain Ellouz 9
SOLO Art The SOLO Art, made out of a single piece of alabaster, is hung upon your wall much like a painting would be. The translucent stone is uniformly back-lit to reveal the richness of its figures. A softness is created with this subtle light, creating an openness for contemplation. 10 SOLO CONCEPT SOLO ar t Atelier Alain Ellouz 11

The SOLO Art can be hung directly as we supply it, so that the thickness of the alabaster is visible. It is ready to install with our system (only 5mm), which looks as if the panel is virtually touching the wall. As with any light fixture, one needs to consider the electrical supply. The low-voltage power supply can be concealed within a small alcove behind each SOLO panel, or placed anywhere else within 10m of the panel. The SOLO Art can be hung individually, or composed in any number. The type of stone is then selected in accordance with each client. Like all pieces of art, the SOLO Art can be set within a frame. 14 SOLO CONCEPT SOLO ar t Atelier Alain Ellouz 15

Surface treatment for alabaster Although the aesthetic qualities of alabaster are rich, its natural technical characteristics can pose a challenge. In order to protect the material over time, and still reveal its natural beauty, Atelier Alain Ellouz has developed specific techniques called Stonelight. Stonelight solutions The constraints of alabaster Strengthening treatment This technique encloses the alabaster within an invisible structure, thus adding resistance to flex. The richness of patterns within the alabaster is due to variation in density and crystallization. Amongst those are fragile veins where the alabaster plate may weaken. The gypsum alabaster that we use has a hardness between 1.5 and 2, which is low (marble is 4-5, quartz is 7, and diamond 10), and prone to scratching. Shock and scratch protection This treatment encapsulates the alabaster within one or more layers according to usage: a Solo Art will recieve a Alabaster is sensitive to heat and shock. 3 Preparation for shipping The Solo elements are protected and placed into crates with the greatest care. (Note: Atelier Alain Ellouz has ten years of experience of shipping alabaster). The crates also include mounting rails and electrical devices- transformer, dimmer, cables. 2 Workshop production When the plans have been approved, the Solos are manufactored within 3-4 weeks. Each element is labeled for a comprehensive installation per the layout and wiring diagram. 34 SOLO CONCEPT wall Atelier Alain Ellouz 35
4 Installing mounting rails Your carpenters will be installing the mounting rails. The exact position and spacing of the horizontal rails will be specified on the plans. They will mount the rails according to the structure of the wall, taking great care to stay on the same plane. They will set the transformers and other electrical devices in place, until Installing motion the next stage. The Solo panels, fitted at the back of four openings, replace mirrors. The four countertops have also been fitted with alabaster plates- all of them removable. The new stone fits perfectly amongst the composed marbles and reveals them with its fresh new light. For this project, the Solo elements have been delivered in plates ready to be installed in the openings and onto the counters. The carpenters have installed the Solos themselves in a few hours with no dust. This enabled installation to be done overnight so that the store could stay open during its regular business hours. Like any other light fixtures, the Solos are removable at any time since nothing has been glued into place.. 50 SOLO CONCEPT Guer lain Atelier Alain Ellouz 51
