Pedestrian and Driver Safety

Nighttime falls quicker now that we have transitioned into fall. With the sun setting earlier, it’s essential to
adjust your driving and walking accordingly.

Pedestrians are much harder to see at night. As a driver, it’s imperative to be mindful of your surroundings
when driving. Extra precautions must be taken on both sides, meaning drivers and walkers must be on the
lookout. Most incidents occur when someone is distracted, not paying attention, or not following proper safety
protocols.

Here are some safety tips for walkers:

 • Don’t let your phone distract you. Try not to be on your phone while you are walking the streets at night.
Your focus should be on your surroundings.
 • Wear reflective clothing.
 • Never assume others are seeing you.
 • Try to avoid walking on roadways. Always use sidewalks when applicable.
 • Always walk facing oncoming traffic.

Safety tips for drivers:

 • Make sure all of your lights are working correctly.
 • Always be on the lookout for pedestrians.
 • Don’t drink and operate a vehicle.
 • Keep a safe distance from other cars.
 • Pay attention to your surroundings.
 • Make sure your auto insurance is up to date.

Do You Have A Solid
               Emergency Kit Prepared?
Emergency preparedness isn’t discussed enough. Between the
pandemic and the influx of natural disasters these days, being
better prepared for emergencies could make a considerable
difference if faced with having to evacuate from your home
quickly.

The idea of having to prepare for disasters or unfortunate
events can feel counter-intuitive or even scary, so many choose
not to focus on it. However, being prepared will help you better
navigate whatever may happen with more ease and confidence.
If history hasn’t taught us anything else, it’s taught us that we
can’t wait to be saved. We must prepare and save ourselves.

Bug-out bags are a way to prepare for any possible life-disrupting events that may occur. Other names for the
bag are emergency kit, go-bag, evacuation bag, survival bag, etc. This bag is generally filled with tools and
supplies such as food, water, and any other essential items that could aid you in your survival.

Basic Disaster Supplies can include:
