ROYAL DOCKS Get ready for a fun, flavourful revelation as international multi-sensory experience designers Bompas & Parr come to the Royal Docks to create the world’s first rainbow you can actually interact with. RAINBOWS Head below Silvertown Way, Britain’s first flyover, and you’ll find the Royal Docks Flavour Rainbow – an incredible feast for the senses that immerses you in the history of the Royal Docks and Newham. Working with local schools, Bompas & Parr has conjured up evocative essences synonymous with the by Bompas docks as imagined by children, in a celebration of the rich heritage of this vibrant part of east London. & Parr And if that isn’t joyous enough for you, on days when the sun is shining, the docks will be illuminated with the Flavour Rainbow sight of a rainbow twice a day. Arcs of fine spray will span each side of the Royal Victoria Dock during the displays, When which you’ll be able to look through and see the light 14–31 October transformed into the symbols of hope and renewal. ARRIVAL This family-friendly theatrical adventure takes us on an exciting journey around the streets, bridges, greens and iconic waterscape of the historic Royal Docks. At the heart of the event are a series of surprising shipping crates. On the night, discover what the crates behold and immerse yourselves in a storytelling experience that is filled with live performance, local people and their stories, music, beatboxing, dance, water-wonder and filmic spectacle. All of the inspiration for ARRIVAL comes from the Royal Docks. The docks have long been an embarkation place; from the Romans and Anglo Saxons to Irish and Jamaicans, these new arrivals have brought their own stories. ARRIVAL will conjure a melting pot of Royal Docks people, ideas and potential. It creates a picture of one of the most compelling inner-city sites in Europe, exploring its rich past and the ambitious future ahead of it. The organisers imPOSSIBLE and designer and director duo Jon Bausor and Matthew Dunster worked with local communities to create this immersive experience that will delight and inspire all ages. It’s July 1967. The play was inspired by a memory Sing-along of Gay Liberation Front activist Stuart Feather about 15:00 the Kent Arms, a North Woolwich pub frequented by gay men, sailors and locals in the 1960s. Discover fun in unexpected places as Royal Docks Originals Family Weekender and Bow Arts bring free art When and culture to Royal Albert Wharf. 30–31 October Taking place in October half-term, the weekend of wonder brings together music, circus, art, dance and more in a Where celebration of creativity and imagination. EXHIBITIONS Grown Up in the Docks What’s your strongest memory of being young? This outdoor exhibition shares stories and photos of youth told by people who grew up in the Royal Docks.
