MY SOCIAL MEDIA AND ONLINE AUDIENCES: • 160k Facebook Followers • 125k Instagram Followers • Growing by 500-1000 a week. • Online Courses sell up to 1.5 million a MONTH. • Fit & Fierce Club is where I live (www.FitFierceClub.com)
WHY YOU SHOULD BE ONLINE: • The internet is only cold, impersonal or overwhelming if you focus on that aspect or help make it be those things. What if you could use social media to help the world? You can! • Your competitors are online. Why not you? • 75% of clients now want to study at home. Will you meet them there? • You want freedom. Freedom to work when & where you want. Freedom from money, stress, and having to show up physically to make a living. • Pro Tip: Create online offerings (courses, e- books, challenges, etc.) so your social media helps make you passive (as well as active) income. See what I make at www.SadieCourses.com or www.FitFierceClub.com
HOMEWORK: SHINE LIGHT ON YOUR SHADOW STORIES • Journal on this: • What old stories have been limiting me from moving forward with my social media presence? • Will I choose to believe these any longer, or try things that will make me more abundant on every level?
ABOUT THIS COURSE: • This is not a course on ads specifics or a walkthrough on how to use every feature on your camera, etc. There is a free video for any tech question you have on Facebook and YouTube. • This is something more useful and powerful. It is something only someone who has honed online voice and success can teach you from experience. I am here to: • Organize your mind and time to envision, structure and serve your brand goals better: The Why, as well as the How. • Save you time and energy posting randomly, and seeing random results. • Help you direct the personality, tone and content of your social media from your unique skills and voice so your audience will be more attracted, focused and directed to your bigger picture items. • Make you more clearly yourself online so you will enjoy creating within this environment more. • Get you started from envisioning to posting and boosting posts —the foundation of any successful social media page.
WHICH PLATFORMS TO FOCUS ON? • FACEBOOK & INSTAGRAM. Hands down. • Facebook: Over 2 Billion People. • Main audience 35-55 • Disposable income. • Superior sales ability than other platforms. • Instagram: Owned by Facebook. Sales ability and linking improved. • Younger-skewed audience (20s-40s) but disposable income audience catching on.
WHAT’S OUT: • Off brand posts designed to get viral likes. • Hard-sell style language and slick sales-y videos/posts. • Paying a ton for marketing instead of attracting your right audience through your value based pages. • Posting only about your events/classes/online offerings. • Making your posts overly about you. • Posting once every couple weeks or inconsistently. • Posting what you think other people want over your own passions. • Hiding from your true personality.
WHAT’S IN: • Things you can’t buy: being real, and really connected to real people. Social media algorithms reward this. • Giving valuable content for free, within reason. Bite-sized things people can use that lead to bigger-picture items. • Interactive and live videos that help your specific audience and keep them in connection to you. • Your audience sharing your videos to their own pages. • Simplifying your post boosts to specific audiences and people who follow you. • Gently leading people to your bigger picture items if they want to learn more. Leave space for choice.
WHAT CONTENT GOES ON EACH PLATFORM? • Facebook: Deeper expertise/leadership. • 5-10 minute teaching videos. • Live instruction/motivation. • Hot articles on your topic. • Recipes/diet tips. • Instagram: Mini quick tips and lifestyle. • Beautiful photos. • Engaging Instagram Stories. • 1 minute max videos on main page. • “Lives” can be longer. • “Stories” have 15 second blocks.
HOMEWORK • Make 2 Lists: Facebook & Instagram General Content Types. • On 2 separate pages, brainstorm all the main ways you could post on each platform. What general themes, what focus? It’s not time for specifics yet— What are your main areas of potential focus? I could do: yoga, music, fitness, diet, meditation, motivations, aging fiercely, wine love, relationship advice, travel adventures. Will you do them all on your list? Not necessarily. But you gotta know ‘em all in order to choose.
SOCIAL MEDIA BEST PRACTICES Steps to get you the right following!
STEP 1: Create relationship with your specific “tribe”.
RELATIONSHIP RULES: • Facebook is now rewarding meaningful social interaction. When they see that you’re creating actual interaction (not paid likes), they will open it to more of your community. • This means you want to get real likes, real shares, & real comments. • You can’t buy this. Get your followers into conversation and tell them in your post to share and let you know what they think! They will. • Add to your posts early on: “NOTE: Press “Share” to keep this video in your own page’s video library! • To do this, you also have to be a real person, having a real personal connection with your social tribe. You can’t be too slick, or act like you’re not a human as well as a business. So the real question is: what kind of relationship do you want to engage in via your social media?
SOCIAL AUDIENCE NUMBERS: • Size doesn’t matter in the way you might think. • We get blinded by the celebrity culture numbers. PS: They (many times) pay to boost their followers. • A hundred real, dedicated followers are worth more than a million viral or paid-for likes. • Imagine that you have a hundred people in this room who are interested in what you do. Where would you direct them?
HOMEWORK • Relationship Study: • Journal on these questions: How has my relationship been with social media, both my existing social media audience and my potential audience? Is it functional or dysfunctional? In what ways? What can I do differently to create the kind of healthy relationship there that I want to engage in in every part of my life?
STEP 2: Video Is King!
VIDEOS TO FOCUS ON: FACEBOOK • Regular Facebook feed videos: shot on your phone or camera, then posted on the main page. Benefits: videos on Facebook engage far more followers than image posts. They are archived in your video section so new visitors can see what you’re about and your audience can keep studying with you. • Facebook live videos: created live with your phone (get the Pages app for easier page management) and interactive with your audience if you choose. Benefits: all of your followers are notified, unlike any other post type. This strengthens the relationship. Interact with your people live or after the fact in the comments.
HOMEWORK • Make This List: Specific Facebook Ideas • Write down 3 lists of all the specific content of regular image posts, filmed videos, and Facebook live videos you can think of that would appeal to you (and your audience). • What exactly could they contain? Ex: one minute poses for prenatal yoga, recipe tips for belly health, core strength moves…NOTE: bite- sized taster content is better than trying to throw all your info at them at once. Save that for your bigger-picture items like online courses, classes, etc.
VIDEOS TO FOCUS ON: INSTAGRAM • Regular Instagram feed videos: shot on your phone or camera, then posted on the main page. Benefits: a good way to break up your photos and add value. • Instagram live videos: allows you to interact “live” with your audience. Benefits: your audience gets notified, and strengthens relationship. NEW: You can co-lead your Instagram Lives with another influencer, expert, or company to boost views and co-market. • Instagram stories: videos you create that are saved for 24 hours. You can save or highlight them as well. Benefits: good for swipe-up links, added hashtags, tagging people, & GIFs. You can also share stories about you posted by your audience.
HOMEWORK • Make This List: Specific Instagram Ideas • Brainstorm: how will your Instagram be a little different than your Facebook? I suggest you make it unique. You’ll attract different audience types by focusing on each platform for what it is. • Write down all the more specific content of Instagram posts, Stories and 1-minute or less tip videos you can think of that would appeal to you (and your audience)? What exactly could they contain? Ex: one minute poses for prenatal yoga, recipe tips for belly health, core strength moves…
CHOOSE YOUR MAIN THEMES. • Out of all the things you could post about, decide what few things you will post about. • What 3-4 aspects of your expertise and your lifestyle will you focus on? This will become the reason people are drawn to your social media and other offerings. • Avoid throwing in the kitchen sink. Less is more when it comes to honing your brand and attracting your Tribe.
HOMEWORK • Make 2 New Lists: Main Themes FB / Main Themes Instagram. • Return to your FB and Instagram specific content ideas. • Write down what 3-4 sections your brainstormed content fits into. Yoga flows? Anatomy tips? Recipes/Diet? Meditation? Fitness videos? Lifestyle? • Whatever they are for you professionally, focus on these the most when deciding what to post. Your pages will have clarity, a clear personality, and purpose to them.
BEST PRACTICES STEP 3: CONSISTENCY IS KEY • Relationships thrive on attention. Not constantly, but consistently. Show up for them, and they will show up for you. • Consistency can be confrontational, to you (self-valuing your expertise and time), and others (they may resist out of fear or you to spend more time and energy taking over their work for them!). • Consistency, not luck, is the magic ingredient of success. • How to create consistency on your page? Post regularly, post similar themes, let them get to know you. Comment back whenever possible. This is a crucial! When people hear from you, you’ll have fans for life who will reward you with their time, energy, and even money.
HOMEWORK • Create Space For Your Consistency. • Write on these General Consistency questions: • What does consistency look like on my pages? How often will I post? • What things in my life will I need to move in order to make the time to be able to do this?
NOW SCHEDULE IT. • Next step is to create a weekly schedule for the types and times of posts you’ll do. • Stick with it. Nothing tanks your audience faster than inconsistency. • Remember, you can schedule your FB posts and videos in advance. Live videos, do them when you can, and (even better), schedule them on days proven to have high engagement; Monday, Tuesday, Weds, Saturday, or Sunday, in the early morning, at lunchtime or later after work.
HOMEWORK • Schedule Your Posts on FB/Instagram. • What does your week look like now? • What will your weekly structure look like for shooting, editing, and writing your posts? • Plan specific time for doing all of this. Write this on a calendar and keep the time sacred like you would a date night or medical appointment!
STEP 4: Add Value, And The Money Will Follow!
HOW TO ADD VALUE • WHAT you post matters as much as that you’re posting consistently! • Humans all want similar core benefits: safety, security, health, wealth, happiness, etc. They want respect from the tribe and personal guidance. • Speak to one or more of these core benefits whenever you create your posts and videos • Guide your audience to solve one or more of their problems relating to these core benefits.
REMINDER: • Whatever you create, create it for YOU first. Meet your own core values and then branch out. • If you’re excited to offer something, the right people will find you. • Make sure you align your bigger- picture items, classes, etc, with what YOU love to create— even if that’s changed from what it used to be.
HOMEWORK • Make This List: Core Benefits • Return to your content brainstorm lists from your last FB and Instagram homework. What aspects of core human experience (security, tribe, happiness, health, etc) can you speak to in each? This is how you can add the value that most humans desire.
STEP 5: Make The Viewer The Rockstar…Even If You Are, Too!
MAKE THEM THE ROCKSTARS OF THIS STORY. • Ultimately your posts, marketing copy, etc will be more successful if you focus it on their story instead of (only) yours. • Example: What’s more interesting to you? I had a terrible breakup with my boyfriend of 5 years and felt bad about myself so I decided to work out and here’s how I love to work out OR Here’s how to get the best breakup revenge: become more fit & fierce in the next 30 days—and empower up, faster! • Whatever you post about, make your audience the center of the story, even if you indulge a personal anecdote. They are the rockstar. You are the guide. • How will your posts/classes/online teaching add value to their lives, and/or help them solve a potential challenge/or problem? How will your expertise & guidance help lead them in some meaningful way? What core benefits will they receive? All successful posts include these aspects.
HOMEWORK • Choose the first 10 things you’re going to post. • For each: write a rockstar story • Write a short text “story” about each that starts with you, but makes them the rockstar that you’re in service of. Make sure it quickly tells them what benefits they will get, and how great they will feel from viewing the video or reading the post. • Core Benefits I’m speaking to: fitness, health, less pain, more happiness. • Examples: Starting with me and turning it to them: I wasted so much time learning yoga in ways that really hurt my knees. Then I became an anatomy expert! Avoid my mistakes with this 5-minute Save Your Knees tutorial, and learn to rock any yoga pose, anytime—without straining your knees! • Starting with them: Do your knees hurt in yoga? Watch my 5-minute Save Your Knees video, learn why—and also how to avoid pain & strain in all your future classes!
STEP 6: Lead Them To Your Passive Or Active Income Offerings!
HOW TO LEAD WITH VALUE (FOR THEM), TOWARD VALUE (FOR YOU)! • First, decide where you want to direct your audience: to your classes? Your workshop? Your online offering? Studio? Office? All of these? Where? (This may change from post to post). This place should benefit you in some meaningful way should they choose to engage with it. • Example: My Fit & Fierce Club online yoga/fitness studio. I just posted a new Core Strength Transformer Yoga Class there. What do I want? I want them to try it out and start a free subscription trial for 30 days. Why? They’ll get the class, and others, then hopefully decide to stay for $9.99 a month. • Now envision which bite-sized (but valuable) posts you brainstormed you can choose (or make) that highlight a smaller version of the bigger picture item you’re leading them to. I could post: The Best New Yoga Pose For Core Strength, or Here’s How To Finally Work Your Abs Without Hurting Your Back! These will be videos they can “share” to save on their own page and watch anytime, but also I include links to the longer class on the Fit & Fierce Club if they want me to guide them through a whole workout.
HOMEWORK • Make A List For Each Of Your First 10 Value-Added, Rockstar Posts: Where Are You Leading Them For Some Of Those? • Decide where you want to send people from some of your posts. Your class? Private client signup? E-course? This can help you focus in on what content you’ll offer (a taster of the bigger item). • You don’t need to put further or sales links on every post. Only put them on posts where people can go deeper with you online or in person. • MORE DETAILS ABOUT HOW TO DO THIS AHEAD:
STEP 7: Overview Your Facebook & Instagram Post Practices
KEEP IT SIMPLE: • It’s said people will decide to read your content (or not) in less than one second. • The text on your posts and videos can be long, but the main info and direction should be in the top paragraph immediately, so people don’t have to scroll down to see the crucial point. • Present a problem or challenge. • Provide a solution. • Give a link or other direction (example-Press “share” to save on your own page and watch anytime!) • More involved details can be below…but if they don’t see the link or interesting core benefits first, they won’t read any further. • Speak in real people language, like talking to a friend. Say it straight. Poetic language belongs further down the page. • What would you want to read? Write that!
BEST FACEBOOK POST PRACTICES: • Always have a dynamic photo or video that’s also USEFUL—and adds value for free. Your audience should not suffer if they don’t want to or can’t take advantage of your offer. • Describe the free value first and then lead them to your offering in a couple of ways: “PS” or “If you love this…” • EXAMPLE: Here’s a free Safer Stretch Yoga Sequence! I anatomically-enhanced these poses to better open your body safely, in less time. Join me now “live”, or press “share” to keep this video in your own page’s Video Library to watch later! In this one video, you’ll get: ♦ A fun and effective yoga flow for quick warming and safer stretching of common areas of tension: legs, hips, back body, spine, neck and shoulders. ♦ A perspective on fascia and why it’s more important to know how it stretches than even your muscles. ♦ The 4 things your body needs to stretch properly, and why many people don’t do one of these, and then hurt themselves. This should be valuable—and fun. See you soon!! ♥ Sadie PS: If you want a longer, guided program to do at home, with awesome Yoga Shred® workouts and sweet 25-Minute Yoga Stretch/restore Sessions with me, check out the TBT30: Total Body Transformer 30 Day Challenge. You’ll love it!! It’s Here: www.SadieCourses.com Let me know if you’re joining in! xoSadie
BEST FACEBOOK POST PRACTICES (CONTINUED): • Put the sales link in the first comment. It’s rumored that Facebook sometimes restricts content with sales links in the main post. But sometimes I do it anyway. • EXAMPLE: Hey! Thanks for joining me for this stretch-o-rama today. Let me know what you think! And here’s the course I mentioned above if you want to work and stretch out more deeply with me: www.SadieCourses.com • Also, post AND PIN a main video or photo welcoming people to your Facebook page. Let them know what they’ll get by following you; list your main offerings like class schedule, website, and any upcoming events. Anyone who finds your page will then have a reason to follow it.
BEST INSTAGRAM PRACTICES: • Similar to FB but instead of links within posts, put the main link or link to multiple links in your bio, under “website url” when editing your profile. Change as needed. • You can push FB Boosted posts to your audience’s Instagram feed now. • Clearly state all you offer them in your profile. Not all your credentials, just core benefits. • Create regular Stories with swipe ups to your links as well as lifestyle posts to keep your audience relating to you.
POSTING BEST PRACTICES: MAKE SURE YOUR POSTS ALL CONTAIN: General: A value-based item that is both helpful on its own but also may point them to a bigger online or offline offering you have. Specific: A dynamic, well edited photo, a helpful video, or Live video that showcases the added value you’re giving. A gripping first couple of sentences which show them what challenge can be overcome, and what core benefits can be achieved by watching/reading/trying your offering. A call to action to press “share” if they want to keep your post in their own FB page’s videos (FB only). Any explanation needed in more detail as the bulk of the post. A call to action to click links (FB) or link in bio (IG) to see more if you’re leading them elsewhere. Anything else you can think of that’s specific to your post: hashtags & tagged people in your post (only tag people IN or directly related to your post—otherwise it’s annoying).
HOMEWORK • Double-check that you’ve optimized those first 10 posts (5 for FB / 5 for Instagram)—then post it!! • Print out the main points of the posting elements you’ve learned here that you’ll use regularly. • Envision some additional FB and Instagram posts using these principles in a document or in your notes function, so you’ll have ideas to post on days you’re busy or not feeling creative.
STEP 8: Boosting Your Posts!
BOOSTING POSTS: • See how your post does organically for a couple of days. • Choose the posts that are gaining comments, shares, or clicks to your link, boost them for $10-20 to one of the following audiences: • People who like your page. OPTIONS: local if you’re doing an in person event, or specific countries or regions if you’re selling something. • People who like your page and their friends. • Lookalike audiences (based on who likes your page). • ONE specific audience. Example- yoga, crossfit, or any audience you think your content will resonate with. See how you do. Switch or boost more depending on the engagement. • Avoid boosting to the biggest possible audience with multiple topics. • If a post is working, put $25 more (not $500) toward it or the algorithm will freak out and expect that next time.
BOOSTING POSTS: • Make sure to specify ages (me: 35-55) and genders me: (women). Don’t aim for everyone. Aim for the right ones. • Add a button: ‘learn more’ or ‘sign up’ —and also put the link within your post if you’re directing them somewhere. Make it easy for people to find you!
HOMEWORK • Try Boosting A Post—One on FB, One On Instagram. • Let your posts run organically for a couple of days. Then, try boosting a post to the audience who likes your page, one that’s doing well with views, comments, and/or shares. • Check the insights after a couple of days. If necessary, boost it more, or broaden it to people you choose through targeting. Remember to match their “interests” to what you offer (yoga, meditation, etc). • Remember—this is a process, and no one has the right way to do it for your page. And things change as your living audience shifts and the technology shifts. Just begin, then refine and evolve over time.
