Rob STOKES REPRESENTING PITTWATER IN PARLIAMENT New ambulance station MAY 2021 ‘Community’ is a word that best describes the recent Christmas and New Year period. Thousands of locals – more than half the northern beaches – stepped forward for COVID-19 testing to help protect others. Thousands were also unable to see their families over Christmas for the first time ever. This historic community effort will forever be etched in our memories. Work has been completed on the hospitals – Mona Vale Hospital, Northern Dine & Discover vouchers, cash construction of a new ambulance Beaches Hospital, and Royal North Shore station at Mona Vale Hospital. Rob STOKES – Member for Pittwater Wakehurst Parkway flood mitigation Comprehensive plans to address flooding along Wakehurst Parkway are now on exhibition. The NSW Government has allocated more than $18 million for the key project, as part of a joint partnership with Northern Beaches Council. The exhibited plans include a series of environmentally engineered measures for Middle Creek, which runs alongside the road corridor, to better enable water to disperse during heavy rain events. Following the exhibition, and the consideration of feedback by Northern Beaches Council, the project can then proceed to tender. Picture: Funding has been secured to address Wakehurst Parkway flooding Dine & Discover Hundreds of local businesses are participating in the NSW Government’s Dine & Discover initiative. The stimulus program was fast-tracked to the northern beaches in response to the Christmas lockdown, and is designed to support impacted sectors and boost consumer activity. All adults are eligible for four $25 vouchers – two for food service venues and two for entertainment and recreation. Vouchers are valid until 30 June and can be applied for on the Service NSW website, by phoning 13 77 88 or by visiting Service NSW at Warriewood Square. Picture: Launch of Dine & Discover at Beco@Chelsea, Avalon Beach Global attention on North Narrabeen The world surfing tour returned to North Narrabeen for the first time in more than 20 years and helped provide a vital boost to our local economy. The Narrabeen Classic saw the world’s best surfers compete at the renowned surf break – with the event drawing thousands of spectators and the coverage broadcast globally. In close partnership with Northern Beaches Council, the NSW Government was able to secure the major event from Queensland, as part of a series of measures to support Picture: Narrabeen Classic presentation ceremony local businesses. Ingleside community precinct Plans are being exhibited to help guide the Ingleside community’s long-term future. The draft strategy sets out prospective locations for future parks, conservation areas, housing, roads and community facilities. The proposed maximum number of prospective future homes in the suburb has been reduced to 980, with a rural village focus. This is dramatically less than the 4,869 homes initially forecast for the area under the previous government. Further information is available by visiting www.planning.nsw.gov.au Picture: Long-term plans for the Ingleside community are on exhibition Mona Vale Road upgrade The Mona Vale Road East Upgrade is advancing and the project has reached a key construction milestone. Remaining excavation works are being completed and crews have commenced the introduction of the new eastbound road surface and heavy vehicle arrester bed. Foundation work is also being finalised to support the vegetated fauna bridge, which will be the first of its type in Sydney. Picture: Construction of the Mona Vale Road upgrade and new fauna bridge School infrastructure upgrades The NSW Government is progressing the upgrade of Mona Vale Public School and a new community performing arts centre for Mona Vale. The generational upgrade of Mona Vale Public School is a multimillion dollar project that will include the construction of new classrooms, support facilities and a dedicated performance building for the Pittwater community to use. Temporary classrooms have recently been installed in preparation for the works. All-abilities golf course upgrade Palm Beach Golf Club has commenced a major upgrade as part of its aim to become a fully inclusive, all-abilities golf course. The NSW Government has provided more than $800,000 to assist the club with its objective of enabling those with a disability, including wheelchair users, to enjoy golf at this spectacular location. The project includes various modifications to support wheelchairs and mobility devices, including hardier turf around the greens, improved paths and the installation of a lift in the clubhouse. Picture: Construction works underway at Palm Beach Golf Club Service NSW app tops 4 million downloads More than 75% of NSW residents have downloaded the Service NSW app on their smartphone or tablet. The success of the app follows the launch of the Service NSW concept by the NSW Government in 2013 to provide access to all NSW Government transactions in one location. The app has been a key tool during the State’s COVID-19 response – particularly the venue and business check-in feature. Picture: The Service NSW app is available free via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store NSW Government rejects PEP-11 The NSW Government has formally lodged its opposition against the controversial Petroleum Exploration Permit (PEP-11) off the Sydney coast. The permit area is situated in Commonwealth waters and has been strongly opposed by local community groups, including the Surfrider Foundation. The matter now rests with the Federal Government, and I support the ongoing efforts of our Federal MP, Jason Falinski, in conveying the concerns and objections of our Picture: The NSW Government is strongly opposed to oil and gas drilling off the Sydney coast community. The new inpatient building accommodates a dedicated palliative care unit and a specialist geriatric medical unit, and has further expanded the range of medical services available across the hospital campus. The modern building joins other major infrastructure projects introduced in recent years, and further boosts the number of medical and allied health professionals on campus – including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists pathologists, dentists, pharmacists and Picture: Opening of Mona Vale Hospital’s newest inpatient building radiographers. Mona Vale Hospital 24/7 treatment Mona Vale Hospital’s Urgent Care Centre has treated more than 48,000 patients since its launch, and building and equipment upgrades are continuing to be introduced. The unit is overseen by an experienced medical team and is equipped with modern medical imagery and diagnostic technology – including x-ray, ultrasound and CT. A pathology service also operates within the unit, supporting patients presenting for treatment as well as those with a referral. In emergency situations always phone triple-0. Lynleigh has volunteered countless hours supporting injured and vulnerable wildlife, including during the tragic 2019/20 NSW bushfires. Lynleigh has also been instrumental in establishing Sydney Wildlife Rescue’s mobile care unit, to provide deployable treatment in emergency situations. There are few people with Lynleigh’s knowledge of native wildlife, and her fearless approach has assisted many local residents who have discovered snakes, lizards and other critters in Picture: Rob Stokes with Lynleigh Greig their homes.
