M any residents of Kembangan - Chai Chee congregated at SATA CommHealth Uttamram Medical Centre on the morning of 21 August. Many were there to receive free health checks (chest X-Ray, blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol tests) offered by SATA CommHealth. As a community healthcare provider and social enterprise, the complimentary basic and specialised health tests offered to Kembangan - Chai Chee and Bedok residents on that day was in line with its mission of promoting lifelong health and serving the community. In addition to the regular health checks, a specialised test which benefits the community was also done – tonometry or the test for glaucoma. 3 | HealthLine | October 2016 COMMUNITY SERVICES SATA CommHealth Hosts Inaugural Girls’ Brigade Smoke-Free Ambassador Training A s part of SATA CommHealth’s anti-smoking advocacy, a new smoke-free course was introduced in 2016 to secondary school girls who are part of the Girls’ Brigade. We felt that there is no better time to start educating our youth about smoking than while they are in secondary schools. Singapore’s smoking rate has steadily declined, from 18.3% in 1992 to 13.3% in 2013. Although deemed low by world standards, Singapore aims to reduce its smoking prevalence rate even further to 12% by 2020. 4 | HealthLine | October 2016 MOBILE MEDICAL SERVICES SATA CommHealth Highlights Importance of Healthy Living at ‘Pledge Your Heart’ Walk Participants of the walk undergoing health screening assisted by SATA CommHealth staff. T he outdoor foyer portion of Marina Bay Sands was a hive of activity on a bright sunny Saturday morning on 25th June. Many participants of all ages and walks of life congregated there for the ‘Pledge Your Heart’ Walk co-organized by Nestle and Singapore Heart Foundation. They came dressed in sports attire and were all raring to go. Coupled with the fresh morning air, booths were buzzing with activity as many participants came earlier to sample what the booths lined up alongside the promenade had to offer. SATA CommHealth actively engaged the participants through our free basic health screening offered to all who visited our booth. We were also on hand to advise many of the benefits of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through the monitoring of one’s health status through regular checks. Participants were able to consult our staff on health screening facts and received answers to their enquiries on heart health. 5 | HealthLine | October 2016 CORPORATE SERVICES SATA CommHealth Partners Nestle Singapore to Promote Healthy Lifestyles for Organisations S ATA CommHealth and Nestle set out to educate and create awareness among staff of corporate companies on the importance of healthy lifestyles. The health screening campaign that ran from March to July 2016 featured the familiar SATA CommHealth bus decked out in joint Nestle Omega Plus Acticol milk livery paying a visit to many companies. This bus was a familiar sight at many company sites where staff of all ages received a free health screening. The campaign objectives were: • To promote a healthier workplace in Singapore across A SATA CommHealth staff explaining the Healthier Workplace Pledge to industries employees of Singapore Swimming Club. • Raise awareness of high cholesterol impact on heart health The target of the campaign was to reach as many as 10,000 • Encourage corporate workforce to adopt a healthy diet employees or a minimum of 30 to 50 companies. When they took up the pledge, they received a card showing the risks associated with high cholesterol as well their cholesterol reading and how it translates into their risk of cardiovascular disease/stroke. This will also engender and maintain a service excellence culture in all SATA CommHealth establishments. As part of the initial push to implement this initiative started since June 2016, three SAs comprising a Nurse, a Radiographer and a Customer Service Officer/Clinic Assistant will be appointed in every centre. The role of the SAs is to ensure that timely action is carried out for all patient’s needs and enquiries. They are tasked to concentrate on the peak hours between 9:00am - 11:00am and 2:00pm - 3:30pm.
