LEARNING OBJECTIVES Facilitators: Drs. Paula Pearce, Krista Reich, Peter Huang and Robin Hao. This course was uniquely designed by geriatric medicine residents and program directors to complement the teaching curriculum of geriatric programs in order to cover Royal College examination topics. The program will be split into two half days and will include presentations from Canadian faculty experts, medical jeopardy and a meet and greet with recent graduates. Learning Objectives At the end of this session, participants will be able to: complement the teaching curriculum of geriatric programs in order to meet the Royal College objectives for geriatric medicine; develop a diagnostic and therapeutic approach to common and uncommon symptoms in geriatric medicine; and allow residents from different programs across the country to engage in discussions and network. GROUP 1 NONPHARMACOLOGIC APPROACH TO BPSD WORKSHOP Speaker: Loralee Fox, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Division of Geriatric Medicine, University of Calgary At the end of this session, participants will be able to: cite key triggers for challenging behaviours in persons living with dementia; consider / integrate all non-pharmacologic alternatives to behaviour management prior to implementing pharmacologic alternatives; propose a structured approach to supporting behaviours; and reflect on / recognize personal & team attitudes / values & beliefs and how these might impact care deliver. GROUP 2 OSTEOPOROSIS Speaker: Dr. Angela Juby, Division of Geriatric Medicine, University of Alberta At the end of this session, participants will be able to: access implications of fractures in Geriatric patients; identify the treatment options; and analyze indication and safety of different management options in Seniors. 3:50 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. GROUP 2 LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT Speaker: Dr. Brienne McLane, Department of Psychiatry, University of Calgary At the end of this session, participants will be able to: list the types of Primary Progressive Aphasia and their most common pathological and genetic correlates; describe components of an effective language assessment focused on Primary Progressive Aphasia; and distinguish the different Primary Progressive Aphasias clinically based on components of the language assessment. 5:50 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. SPEAKERS LORALEE FOX NONPHARMACOLOGIC APPROACH TO BPSD WORKSHOP Loralee completed her MN at the University of Calgary with a focus on dementia. She is certified in gerontology with the CNA, and as a PAC trainer with Teepa Snow. Her passion is non-pharmacological behaviour management. DR. ANGELA JUBY OSTEOPOROSIS Professor of Medicine, Geriatrician, University of Alberta. Research interests in OP, sarcopenia and AD with an added focus on nutrition. DR. CAMILLA WONG PERIOPERATIVE CARE OF THE OLDER ADULT Camilla Wong is a geriatrician at St. Michael’s Hospital and associate professor at the University of Toronto. Her interests include the implementation and evaluation of acute care, cross-specialty collaborative care models for older adults. DR. BRIENNE MCLANE LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT Brienne completed a Neuropsychiatry fellowship through the University of British Columbia. Brienne provides clinical consultation services at the Cognitive Neurosciences Clinic at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary. CGS RESIDENT EDUCATION DAY 06

MONA SIDHU JEOPARDY: PHYSIOLOGY OF AGING Dr. Mona Sidhu is an Assistant Professor at McMaster University and currently practices Geriatric Medicine in Hamilton, through Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster University. DR. PHIL ST. JOHN TOP 10 LANDMARK PAPERS Dr. St. John was born and raised in Minnedosa, and is the Section Head of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Manitoba. DR. SARAH BRISBIN Q&A PANELIST SESSION OF RECENT CANADIAN GRADUATES Recent graduate of U of C Geri Med fellowship following IM at U of C and med school at U of T. I've returned to Ontario for staff life in Peterborough and do a combination of inpatient, outpatient and clinical research trials. DR. JANE RYLETT INTRODUCTION TO THE CIHR INSTITUTE OF AGING Dr. Jane Rylett was appointed as Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Aging in 2019. Graduated Geriatric Medicine program at University of Calgary in spring of 2019. Started work at Bluewater Health in Sarnia, ON (home town) and started a new Geriatric program. DR. ALLISON PRIDHAM Q&A PANELIST SESSION OF RECENT CANADIAN GRADUATES Allison Pridham is a Geriatrician and Clinical Assistant Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. She completed her undergraduate medial degree and Internal Medicine training at MUN and her Geriatric Fellowship at Ottawa University. DR.
