Animal Health in the Heartland IowaBio and Bio Nebraska are excited to announce the fourth installment of Animal Health in the Heartland, with this year's focus on Whole Animal Health. IowaBio together with Bio Nebraska invites you to submit a proposal to present/speak as a solo speaker or panelist, at this specialized animal health conference. The symposium features an optional site tour and networking reception on day one (August 18), followed by a substantive day packed full of valuable information on animal health topics Wednesday, August 19, at the ISU Alumni Center in Ames, Iowa. This year's symposium theme is "Whole Animal Health". The animal health industry is using cutting-edge research and innovation to provide solutions to address today’s animal health needs and combat growing health threats, which seem to be coming at a faster pace than ever. These discoveries don’t address just one area of animal health, but span a wide range of approaches to holistically look at all aspects of animal health and their impacts on human health, our food supply, and the environment. We are looking for engaging, substantive presentations that will inform our membership on cutting-edge technology and the latest discoveries in animal health. Desired Presentation Topics Include but are Not Limited to: New vaccines Reduced antibiotic usage Healthier feed additives and their benefits How to prevent another outbreak of avian flu/other impactful animal diseases Worldwide threats to animal health Animal-to-human disease transmission prevention efforts Advances in technology and data that assist producers Environmental and human health benefits linked to advances in animal health Submission Specifications Presentations will be held in person (unless otherwise arranged or altered by the associations due to COVID-19 concerns) on August 19, at a time to be determined. Presentations may be submitted as a solo speaker or as a panel. We are seeking to fill 5-6 timeslots, each lasting 45-60 minutes depending on the final lineup. Page 1

About Iowa Biotechnology Association (IowaBio) The Iowa Biotechnology Association (IowaBio), a 501(c)(6) non-profit, focused on supporting and growing the state’s biotech companies. We represent more than 100 members spanning our state, who are vested in Iowa and in the biotech industry. IowaBio has worked steadily to establish a strong identity for the industry and speak with one voice for our diverse membership, seeking to influence policies on both the state and federal level that will enable more efficient growth for Iowa and the United States. Our Association is focused on fostering a stronger business and research climate and working with leaders across the state to attract and retain bioscience talent, companies and funding. Iowa is abundant in talent, resources, and infrastructure – we want to focus on industry vitalization. Iowa’s bio-based economy already encompasses development of industrial enzymes, livestock genetics, seed genetics, human gene research, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, advanced bio-composites, biomass technologies and healthy foods/beverages. Iowa is home to global companies known for developing new plant hybrids for grains, leading genetics for beef and dairy production and many contributions to the rapid expansion of enzymes used for ethanol bio-processing. Iowa’s biotechnology industries are growing at a rapid pace, and IowaBio works to ensure that these businesses remain leaders in this competitive, global economy. From human health to animals, food to the environment, and pharmaceuticals to biofuels, our diverse membership helps to improve and sustain wellbeing, in the state of Iowa and around the world. We advocate actively on our members’ behalf to create investment and partnership opportunities, attract and retain the very best people, and support public policy that fosters their continued growth. About Bio Nebraska Life Sciences Association (Bio Nebraska) There are few areas of science and technology that hold greater promise for the 21st century than life sciences. Our ability to understand and manipulate living materials can help us solve some of the most significant challenges facing society today. Page 2
In Nebraska, the life sciences industry is thriving because its workforce has a flare for technology and the state’s tax incentive programs make it profitable for internationally known companies to expand. Nebraska is home to production facilities for Novartis, Zoetis, Celerion, Merck Animal Health, and Novozymes. The above, combined with Nebraska’s major medical centers in Omaha, the University of Nebraska bioscience research centers in Lincoln, and two technology parks, make Nebraska an appealing place for the life sciences community to do business. Mission The mission of Bio Nebraska is to be the champion of biotechnology and an advocate for its member organizations promoting academic, industry, and government partnerships to foster the growth of life sciences within Nebraska. Vision Nebraska biotechnology researchers expand the boundaries of science to benefit mankind by providing better healthcare, enhanced agriculture, and a cleaner and safer environment, hence creating opportunities for economic development within the state.
