ABSTRACT OIL STICK PAINTING (ZOOM CLASS) Instructor: Christopher Reed Students will use a variety of different still life and landscape images as inspiration for finding their own unique style of abstract painting. The oil stick medium provides the opportunity to explore various drawing/painting techniques and is compatible with tube oil paint for creating more painterly effects. Mindfulness techniques will help to gradually overcome natural inhibitions, perfectionism, in order to paint in a very free and expressive way. No experience is required, just an openness to making new creative discoveries. KIMCHI Instructor: Emma Holder Kimchi can be a relatively calm sauerkraut-like ferment of cruciferous (and other) vegetables, or it can be as wild gingery-garlicky-spicy as you wish! We'll build on this Korean-style ferment to create your own signature kimchi variation. We’ll also chat about the microbiology of fermentation and what's happening in our microbiomes. FERMENT THIS! KOMBUCHA Instructor: Emma Holder You could buy a $4 bottle of kombucha, or you could make your own for pennies. It's simply sweetened black or green tea with a culture added to it, and we can make both a primary ferment and a secondary one with your favorite fruit juice (yum! Blueberry kombucha!) We'll discuss it's fascinating history, how to make a decaf version, the right glassware and what the heck is a SCOBY? (It's provided if you need it, or ask a friend.) We'll discuss the microbiology of fermentation and what's really happening down there. You will get resources and links to assist with your development as a fly fisher. You will also have an opportunity to learn the basics of fly casting and get a chance to practice with feedback. Why not yours? Come join our adult beginners’ series and share in the fun of learning to play. The ukulele is versatile and a blast to play (with a bit of regular practice, of course). On it you can knock out folk music, rock, blues, jazz, pop, country, tunes grandma knows -- even classical music. In Part 1 of the course, Duncan Perry, who has taught more than 400 students of all ages, will introduce you to essential chords and strumming techniques using familiar songs -- truly a fun way to learn ukulele. Oh, and there are lots of laughs along the way. And here’s a bonus! You do not need to know how to read music! However, you must have a playable soprano, concert, or tenor ukulele and an electronic tuner or a tuner app on your cell phone or tablet.
