March 2015 Dear Parents and Guardians, Welcome to the Green Bay Area Public School District’s Summer School Offerings. The 2015 Summer School booklet contains courses for elementary, middle, and high school students. Who is eligible to enroll? 1. Students who live within the Green Bay School District resident boundaries and meet the admittance requirements. 2. Students who are currently enrolled by choice, but not necessarily residency, in the Green Bay Schools and meet the admittance requirements. 3. Students who live in the Green Bay School District boundaries, but choose to attend a school outside of the district are not eligible to enroll in summer Physical Education or Personal Fitness. What are the dates for enrollment? 1. Applications must be submitted within the three week open registration window from March 30 – April 17, 2015. The district retains the right to cancel courses if enrollment is too low. 2. Confirmation of enrollment will be sent to the parent/guardian by June 5, 2015. Mark your calendar with the dates and times of the courses you requested, as no follow-up reminders are sent after the initial confirmation, nor if changes are made following the initial confirmation notice. 3. For students who have failed a course required for graduation that is included in the 2015 summer offerings, the last registration date will be June 19, 2015. Due to the late nature of these requests, written confirmations will not be mailed, so please show up for your requested course unless you receive a call from GBAPS that this class is not available. What is the enrollment process? 1. OPTION 1: All middle and high school students who have an active student portal and login information can register online from March 30 – April 17, 2015. Please refer to the Online Course Request Instructions in this booklet. If you are requesting busing to Beaumont or Wilder, please send your transportation request form to: Green Bay Area Public Schools, ATTN: Summer School, 200 South Broadway, Green Bay, Wisconsin 54303. 2. OPTION 2: All elementary students and secondary students without student portal access should complete the Course Request and Transportation Request forms, and send them to: Green Bay Area Public Schools, ATTN: Summer School, 200 South Broadway, Green Bay, Wisconsin 54303. 3. If the number of enrollments exceeds the capacity of a particular offering, a lottery for entrance will be implemented. Your completed course request form or online request must be at the Green Bay District Office, ATTN: Summer School, 200 South Broadway, Green Bay, no later than April 17, 2015, in order to be considered for placement in a course that requires a lottery process. Grades K- 8 Enrichment Courses: Summer School enrichment offerings for students are designed to provide extended learning opportunities to strengthen or enhance skills. All K-8 enrichment classes at Wilder and Beaumont Elementary Schools will be run in two sessions, and participants will have the opportunity to take up to two classes per session for a total of up to four classes. Classes will run Monday – Friday, and lunch will be served from 12:00 to 12:30 pm on site at each school. Session 1: June 22 – July 10, 2015 1A: Period A – 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. 1B: Period B – 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Session 2: July 13 – July 31, 2015 2A: Period A – 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. 2B: Period B – 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Lunch will be served from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. on site at each school. The lunch program will be free of charge. Middle School Matters - 6th Grade Orientation: Middle School Matters is an orientation program for all incoming 6th grade students that is held at each Middle School in the Green Bay Area Public School District. Please see page 16 for additional information. Freshman Forward – 9th Grade Orientation: Freshman Forward is an orientation program for all incoming 9th grade students that is held at each High School in the Green Bay Area Public School District. Please see page 17 for additional information. Grades 9-12 Credit-Earning Courses: This program supports high school students who need to complete an incomplete course, complete a deficiency, or gain credit to open up the regular year schedule. Classes will run Monday – Friday. All grade 9-12 credit-earning classes will run in one or both of the following sessions as indicated in the coursebook schedule: Session 1: June 22 – July 17, 2015 Session 2: July 20 – August 14, 2015 PLEASE NOTE: Course expectations for credit courses mirror those of the regular year, including assignments and final exams. State and local standards/benchmarks are covered. All school rules for attendance and behavior are enforced. Disruptive students may be removed from the class so the learning experience can remain positive for other class members. ATTENDANCE: Due to the compressed schedule, students are expected to attend every day. Family vacations, trips, and camps are not excused absences. Summer school is not the best option if such plans are already in place. Page 3 of 27

The students will also be introduced to basic Spanish vocabulary including colors, shapes, numbers, the alphabet, clothing, body parts, weather, emotions, and the list goes on! The goal of the course is to spark an interest in learning a second language while having fun at the same time! There will be reading time, art projects, writing time, and share time each day.
