Flexible system Comprehensive connectivity The R&S®GTA-RN5 simulates wave propagation of con- ventional fixed-frequency transmitters as well as modern concept frequency-hopping transmitters in the range from 20 MHz to 400 MHz. It offers combined TX/RX connectors for con- necting up to six radios from any manufacturers. Wide range of Test and optimization of new devices and methods with minimal effort The performance and capabilities of radiocommunications applications devices should be tested prior to purchase in order to avoid unprofitable investments. The R&S®GTA-RN5 puts radios through their paces to verify their immunity to interference both in "clean" and in crowded, realistic signal environments. For this purpose, an interference signal or the signal from an external anten- na is applied to the test scenario. The system thus allows radio links and radios to be tested for robustness with respect to unwanted as well as want- ed interference (ECCM tests). Conversely, it is also pos- sible to determine and optimize the settings that provide the most effective jamming for dedicated radios and trans- mission methods. Typical tests For conventional fixed-frequency links: JJ Distances required between the radios and the jammer; jamming effectiveness as a function of the distances or transmit power JJ Signal-to-noise ratio required for effective jamming JJ Most effective jamming modulation For modern frequency-hopping links: JJ Jamming effectiveness as a function of the distances between the radios and the jammer, or of the transmit power JJ Number of hops to be jammed to effectively corrupt a link JJ Most effective jamming modulation JJ Analysis of immunity to interference during Immunity-to-interference test system synchronization in link setup Devices under test Radio 1 Radio 2 Radio net simulation device Interference signal generation Signal generation control Wideband Signal generator detector and exciter Control unit Waveform generator Control software Rohde & Schwarz R&S®GTA-RN5 Radio Net Simulation Device 5

Easy and Quick and flexible hardware configuration The radios to be tested and, if necessary, a signal genera- tor for supplying an interference signal, are connected via reproducible setup their RF antenna outputs directly to the corresponding connectors of the R&S®GTA-RN5. The radios can then be operated as usual. Any further devices can also be tested of scenarios simply by connecting them to the R&S®GTA-RN5 via the RF cables. This makes it possible to examine a variety of devices under identical test conditions. Any connections required on the R&S®GTA-RN5 itself for a specific application are made quickly and easily by means of BNC cables. If the output signal level of connected devices is too high, external attenuators can be inserted between the devices and the R&S®GTA-RN5. Rapid setup of training scenarios using intuitive control software The graphical control software makes it possible to vary the virtual positions of the connected devices in the ter- rain without having to change their physical locations. All defined radio stations can be displayed on a digital map by means of the R&S®MapView geographic information soft- ware. After any position change, the path losses are recal- culated and activated in the device as required. All parameters necessary for calculating the wave propa- gation, e.g. the antenna height and the transmit power of the radios, can be set in the operating software on the control PC. From these parameters, the path losses between the radios are calculated and set in the device. The test and training scenarios created in this manner can be saved and re-used as required.
