Kuala Selangor received its name from its location by the river estuary. It is said that the name ‘Selangor’ (Kuala Selangor) had existed since the early 15th century. Historically, the Malawati City, now known as Bukit Malawati, was invaded by the Dutch in July 1784. On January 1785, the Dutch was ousted in just one night.
