Neeley Student Success Services
The mission of Neeley Student Success Services is to ensure that student academic plans are aligned
with their career and professional development plans. It is through this alignment that Neeley students
are able to realize their full potential for professional success. Neeley Student Success Services is a
collaborative partnership designed to integrate the core services of undergraduate student
development. The key areas of this partnership include: the Neeley Academic Advising Center, the Alcon
Career Center, the Neeley Professional Development Center and Neeley student leadership programs.

The Neeley School of Business at TCU is proud to be fully accredited by the Association to Advance
Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) for our undergraduate and graduate programs.
In addition, our accounting department is among an elite number (less than 200) accredited
by AACSB.

AACSB International accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement
for business schools, worldwide.

The TCU Neeley School of Business is recognized by the AACSB as having
the nationwide best practice for its admissions process.

The mission of the Neeley Academic Advising Center (NAAC) is to support business majors throughout
their entire undergraduate experience at the Neeley School by providing effective academic advising.
While students are responsible for their own academic progress, academic advisors will assist students
in exploration, development and management of a successful educational plan.

Services include:
       Course selection during orientation
       Assist in developing an educational plan with consideration
        to academic interest and career plans
       Provide information on university policies, procedures and
        resources
       Assess student’s academic progress
       Refer to resources when academic challenges arise
       Discuss Neeley admissions requirements
       Major/minor selection
       Communicate degree requirements

The advisors in the Neeley Academic Advising Center assist students
with educational planning while promoting student responsibility. We provide guidance tailored to each
student’s specific needs and goals and encourage students to be responsible for their own success at
TCU.

The staff of the Alcon Career Center at the Neeley School of Business is dedicated to the career
development of Neeley undergraduate students. The Alcon Career Center staff is available to provide
services that include: strategizing employment campaigns, developing and exploring career goals,
critiquing résumés, negotiating salary, preparing for interviews and evaluating job offers.

Pre-Business and Admission to Major
Students in the TCU Neeley School of Business are either pre-business or a declared business major.
Pre-Business: First-year students who are granted
admission to the University as pre-business. Students must
complete additional requirements to be considered for
advancement to one of the seven business majors and
upper division courses.
Declaring a Business Major: Student has completed
admission requirements and formally applied to the Neeley
School. Students typically apply in their fourth semester for
admission to upper level courses which begin in their fifth
semester. Admission is competitive and not guaranteed.
Upon acceptance, students will select a specific major in
business.

First-Year Requirements
As a first-year student at TCU, you have many opportunities to explore academic and professional interests. To
get the most out of your first year, please use the checklist below as a guide to help keep track of your academic
and professional goals.
       Pre-Business students must complete the following four courses in their first year: ECON 10223, ECON
        10233, MATH 10283 and ENGL 10803, along with at least one TCU core requirement or other course
        recommended by their academic advisor.
            o    ECON 10223       Introductory Microeconomics
            o    ECON 10233       Introductory Macroeconomics
            o    MATH 10283* Applied Calculus
            o    ENGL 10803       Introductory Composition

       Attend the First-Year Symposium
       Complete PowerPoint during the first semester by published deadline date
       Complete Excel during second semester by published deadline date

GPA Requirement at the End of the First Year
       Students entering TCU as pre-business majors must complete a minimum of 24 credit hours in the first
        year at TCU and obtain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA in order to continue as a Pre-Business student
        beyond the first year.
       NOTE: Students who do not meet the minimum 2.5 GPA at the end of the first year may not continue as
        pre-business and must select a major other than business.
*Precalculus in high school and score at least a 600 on SAT Math or 24 on ACT Math, or you must take Math 10273 as a
prerequisite.

TCU Core Curriculum
The TCU Core Curriculum has three components: the Essential Competencies Curriculum (12 hours plus 6 hours
Writing Emphasis), the Human Experiences and Endeavors Curriculum (27 hours), and the Heritage, Mission,
Vision, and Values Curriculum (18 hours which may overlay with other elements of a student’s degree
requirements). The required minimum hours are 39 (12 EC + 27 HEE), with an additional 6 hours of writing
emphasis plus a substantial overlay component (18 HMVV) which can be provided by coupling overlay outcomes
with the HEE Curriculum or with the major, minor or general curriculum. This is commonly referred to as
“double dipping” ex. a humanity credit may also count for a religious tradition credit. Allowing the student to
fulfill two requirements with one class.

This is a SUGGESTED sequence of courses for PRE-BUSINESS students. Students should consult their academic
advisor in the NAAC or the TCU catalog for clarification on course offerings and prerequisites. This sequence is
designed to ensure that students are ready to enroll in the upper division courses once they are admitted to
Neeley. NOTE: **It is the student’s responsibility to understand and meet the requirements for a degree.
To reduce the number of hours taken each semester, it is encouraged that students enroll in summer school. Please visit the

 IMPORTANT PREREQUISITE INFORMATION                                                            SUGGESTIONS FOR CORE CLASSES

 MATH 10273 (with “C-” or better) IS A PREREQUISITE FOR MATH 10283.                            Try to maintain a balance between

PC Laptop Requirement
The Neeley School of Business prides itself on providing a first class education that prepares students for success when they enter
the world of business. Part of this means being acutely aware of what employers are looking for when our students graduate.
While there are many computer options available on the market, we have found that the majority of companies and businesses
continue to operate on a PC platform. In addition, many of the business school textbooks are also written exclusively for a PC.

Because of these key factors, the Neeley School of Business will now be requiring all students to have a PC laptop or notebook
computer. Please understand that an Apple/Mac computer with PC software is not the same as a computer based on a PC
platform (e.g. Dell, Samsung, Sony, etc.) as students will notice critical differences in keystrokes and other functions that are
taught in class.
