Page 10 June 2021 LACC SECURITY Hello Everyone: The security team would like to welcome everyone back to the Peninsula. After the difficult challenges of 2020, we are looking forward to a fun, relaxing summer. The challenge for security is respecting everyone’s liberties while enforcing the rules. Part of that challenge is screening people at Clifford Gate and issuing passes while safeguarding the community. We ask everyone to practice empathy and patience as we assess new ways to expe- dite the process and better serve you. One way you can help expedite the process is to register your boats and OHVs during off-peak hours. (Before 10:00am or after 6:00pm.) This year the boat tags are only $15/vessel and OHVs are free. The registration of the water vessels ensures everyone at the boat launch has paid their fees since there is limited parking. The reg- istration of the OHVs is essential for us to have on file to comply with the Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with law enforcement. The Plumas County Municipal Code, adopted by the county, allows for ALL vehicle code violations to be enforced on our private property. However, both Plumas County Sheriff’s Department and CHP have MOUs on file stating they will not enforce the violation of driving OHVs on the property as long as we have established certain parameters and guidelines for driving the vehicles such as proof of insurance, safety equipment, proper lighting equipment, and proof of registration. I was also told that the MOUs change with different administrations, so we need to be strict with OHV driving because it is a privilege we could lose. One significant factor law enforcement considers is how many OHVs are driven off the property. If you drive your OHV off prop- erty (past the gates), you can be cited and have your vehicle towed as well as tally up complaints against us with law enforce- ment administrators. Personally, I would like to see the OHV pro- New Homes • Remodels • Repaints (interior and exterior) gram continue, so be responsible and drive safely. It was a big success with about 100 in attendance. There were displays and booths from various Firewise communities, Quincy Fire Department, Plumas Under Burn Cooperative, Plumas County Fire Safe Council, Feather River Resources Conservation District as well as food and drink sold as fundraisers. The event program included Speakers Commander Carson Wingfield about Code Red alert system and emergency evacuations, Alex Saez, Plumas County Animal Control , Animal Evacuations, Richard Stockton, State Farm, and Mike Flanigan, Flanigan-Leavitt Insurance providers, keynote speaker Steve Quarles, UC Cooperative Extension with many informative guidelines about hardening our homes from wildfire. The other highlight was a burning demonstration of walls and roofs of homes of varying construction to demonstrate how embers can penetrate homes and how we can reduce destruction of our homes in wildfire events. It was a real eye opener and the intense heat from these fire demonstrations gave us a wake-up experience. It was good to see several residents of LACC and the Peninsula in attendance.
