MAYOR’S MESSAGE The weather may have cooled down, but this hasn’t stopped our Parks & Recreation Department from planning fun and exciting programs and events to keep you and your family active and healthy this winter. The Town strives to provide a variety of programs to meet the varying interests of our residents. The New Year is a great time to start a new fitness program, introduce your child to a new sport or just try something new. Recreation programs are a great way to improve your health and meet new people. We hope you find a program that meets you and your family’s needs. The winter can be a long and dreadful time of year, why not gather up the family and participate in some of the Town events including Snowfest, Family Skates, or our Walk the Island Challenge for families. These events are a great way to help you and your family enjoy some quality time together. Remember to check out our Facebook and Twitter pages regularly for updates on all that we have to offer. FINANCIAL SUPPORT Jump Start - Jumpstart is a charity backed by Canadian Tire which helps kids in financial need participate in organized sport by assisting with costs associated with sports. If you are a parent or guardian, you can apply for funding on behalf of your child/children by clicking on the link below. All information provided will be kept confidential jumpstart.canadiantire.ca/en/what-we-do/want-to-apply Kid Sport- KidSport PEI believes all Island children should have the opportunity to experience the positive benefits that sport offers. Organized sport teaches children important life skills, such as leadership, commitment, teamwork and self-confidence. Staying physically active is important for everyone, and playing sports helps develop healthy lifestyles for children across Prince Edward Island. REGISTRATION INFORMATION Three ways to register: 1. Online registration – recommended method To register online, you will need to set up your account information and will require a credit card. Please visit www.cornwallpe.ca to register online. Online registration begins November 27, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. After that, you can register online anytime. 2. Phone-in registration Call 902-566-2354, option #0. To register by phone, you will need your credit card and name of classes you want to register for. If you have never registered in any of our programs you will be required to complete the registration process. We will require medical information including your provincial health card and physician’s name and phone number. The initial registration could take up to 10 minutes. Office Hours: Monday to Friday - 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 3. Walk-in registration Come prepared to register with the courses or classes you want to register for. You can register for any of the winter programs as of November 27, 2017, by visiting Town Office at 39 Lowther Dr. PROGRAM CHANGES/CANCELLATIONS Our best effort is made to provide you with the most accurate information at the time of printing, however schedules are subject to change. We reserve the right to cancel, amend, change, postpone or combine classes/activities that a r e listed in this guide. REFUNDS / WITHDRAWALS • Prior to the program start date: Withdrawals may be made up to 48 hours before a program starts and a full refund will be provided. • On or after program start, prior to second class: Requests received on or after the start date of the program, regardless of class start time, will be pro-rated as of the date of notification and cannot be backdated. Withdrawal/Refund requests may be made no later than one business day prior to the second class. A pro-rated credit for the remaining classes can be left on your account for future program registration use. Refund requests will be pro-rated, as of date of notification and subject to a service fee of $10 • After the second class of the program: Requests made after the day of the second class of the program, will be processed for medical reasons ONLY for the remaining classes of the program and must be accompanied by a doctor’s note. Requests will be processed as of the date of notification and cannot be backdated. Medical requests are not subject to a service charges. MISSED CLASSES In the event a participant is unable to attend a class or for weather cancellation, make-up classes, refunds or credits for missed classes will not be offered. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The Town of Cornwall would like to ensure all residents can access recreation and leisure services. Recreation fee subsidies are available for all minor sport programs (Kid Sport) and community recreation programs (Jump Start). Please feel free to contact the office for more information. HARMONIZED SALES TAX HST is now 15 % and is applicable on programs offered to participants 15 years of age and older it is not included in rates and fees advertised in this brochure unless otherwise noted.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES The Town of Cornwall offers many exciting volunteer roles for enthusiastic individuals wishing to contribute within their community. Whether it’s helping at programs or assisting at one of the many events the Town has to offer we always have somewhere to help out. Did you know that volunteering provides many benefits……? The Town invites you to drop by the Terry Fox Sports Complex and enjoy one of our well maintained outdoor recreational facilities. Do you like to skate, cross country ski or how about some good old fashion tobogganing? The Terry Fox Complex has it all, and is open 7 days per week from noon – 9pm. NEW OUTDOOR RINK CORNWALL TOWN HALL The Town is very excited to announce that a new outdoor rink will be added to the Town’s winter outdoor facility inventory. Bundle up the family and get outdoors to participate in some great winter activities. This rink will be open daily providing the weather cooperates. This surface will only be used for skating, hockey is not permitted on this surface. SUBSIDIZED WALKING Do you love to walk and/or jog? Does the cold weather deter you from venturing outside to brave the elements? Do you tend to slack off in the winter months, wishing you could get your exercise but not sure where to go? The Town of Cornwall is pleased to announce that we are now subsidizing walking track memberships at the APM Centre. This is a great way to continue your regime without having to worry about poor weather conditions. The Town is offering to pay 50% of a walking track membership. Simply bring in your receipt from the APM Centre, along with a valid ID confirming that you are a physical resident of Cornwall, and we will gladly reimburse you 50% of the cost excluding HST.
