Patent covers molecular-markers discovered, and process of marker-assisted selection using these markers. Method of determining soybean sudden death syndrome resistance in a soybean plant. Khalid Meksem, Paul T. Gibson, David A. Lightfoot, Southern Illinois University. US Patent 7,288,386 granted, Oct. 30, 2007. Patent covers a method of determining the presence of soybean sudden death syndrome resistance in the soybean plant in a greenhouse setting, using a low-density inoculation of Fusarium solani. Varieties/Germplasms Registered: Maize-2 varieties (originator). Soybeans: 3 varieties and 5 registered germplasms (Co-Developer). Graduate Students 2008-2019. Instructor and mentor in the Makerere Regional Graduate Programs in Plant Breeding (MSc PBSS and PhD PBB). Primary involvement was with the MSc PBSS program, which has trained 141 MSc students.
