About York Pride York Pride is a registered charity run by volunteers and trustees. Our aims and objectives are: To promote equality and diversity for the public benefit and in particular the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity of those living in York and the surrounding areas in particular but not exclusively by: 1) raising awareness and educating the public about the issues and difficulties affecting the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people; 2) cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality and diversity in particular through celebrating the diversity of the LGBT+ community; and 3) staging an annual LGBT festival and smaller events, including regular social events for the LGBT+ community in a safe environment throughout the year. 4) providing funding and or grants and or donations to other charitable and voluntary organisations which the trustees shall from time to time determine. York Pride is a registered charity which aims to promote equality, diversity and advances in education, in order to eliminate discrimination against the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT+) Community. York Pride raises awareness of LGBT+ issues by promoting and staging events, taking part in campaigning and commentary in the media, and providing support to other LGBT+ charities and voluntary organisations. We also promote the provision of information, advice and support that celebrate LGBT+ lives and history. We aim for York to be a place where everybody knows that the diversity offered by the LGBT+ community is something to be celebrated and in which LGBT+ people can feel safe and accepted. We believe that inclusiveness improves self-esteem and provides a sense of belonging, which helps to diminish the psychological effects of discrimination faced by individuals in daily life. Our summer Pride event, which takes place within a Pride festival week, provides our main platform for a celebration of the diversity of the LGBT+ community in a context of entertainment, inclusivity and fun. The event is a focus for the visibility of the LGBT community in York and provides an opportunity to draw attention to important LGBT issues. York Pride is operated by a small team of unpaid volunteers who are working hard to continue to improve Pride for the benefit of the LGBT+ and wider community. We depend upon sponsorship, donations from events, local businesses and supporters and the money we raise through our fundraising activities. We are always keen to improve what we do and to be welcoming to all members of the community. If you have any comments or feedback or would like to get involved in any way, we would love to hear from you. Please contact info@yorkpride.org.uk or fill out our online event questionnaire.
Schools to Proudly Lead York Pride Parade Following months of national media coverage regarding LGBT+ inclusive relationship education in schools, teachers and students from 25 local schools and colleges will lead the York Pride parade from York Minster to the Knavesmire on Saturday 8th June. Students from all the York state secondary schools, Selby, Tadcaster, Malton and Ryedale, several local independent schools and York College and Askham Bryan will congregate at the beginning of the Parade in order to celebrate LGBT equality and inclusivity. From the 25 schools and colleges, over 1000 school children and teachers are expected to participate in York Pride this year, following a historical 2017 when York Pride became the first Pride in the world to have students and teachers from all the schools in the city take part in the Parade. Greg Stephenson, Chair of York Pride said: “It is so fantastic to see the continuing support from schools for York Pride and the values it represents. As many will be aware, the last few months have seen a lot of controversial and inflammatory remarks made about teaching about LGBT issues in schools, and this kind of support from York and the surrounding areas is really touching to see. It shows that no matter what is put out on social media and in the tabloids, people from across all spectrums are committed to equality and diversity, and are proud to teach tolerance and acceptance.’ Julian Rudd, Vice Chair of York Pride, added 'For many of us involved with York Pride, we didn't feel able to come out at school and it wasn't an easy time for us. We have worked closely with local schools to make sure that lgbt students in York and surrounding towns feel supported. The participation of schools in the Pride parade helps show this very clearly.'

Zatchels have partnered with York Pride and plan on-going support of the organisation and event throughout the summer months. Greg Stephenson, Chair of York Pride said “We are incredibly proud to be partnering with Zatchels on their Pride range. It is always great establishing new relationships with companies who really value the importance of equality and diversity, and the fact that the organisation is donating 20% of bag sales to York Pride is brilliant. York Pride exists because of volunteers, sponsors, and fundraising initiatives, so this money will really benefit the event. Whilst there are numerous ways the money will be used, one of our current priorities is to enhance the A/V during the Parade given its mammoth growth over the past few years, and extra funding for this will be really helpful.” Dean Clarke and Brian Brady Zatchels Directors said “The whole team here at our Zatchels factory are proud to support York Pride and the various worthwhile causes they in-turn support. We’ve had a great deal of fun producing the bags displaying the iconic colours of Pride. As a UK business and employer we feel it’s important to promote equality in all it’s forms and we believe these designs are a celebration of Just that. We look forward to showcasing these bags to the world” To view the Pride collection call into Zatchels York at 18 Shambles, York YO1 7LZ or visit www.zatchels.com

TalkTalk’s employee led LGBTQ+ network has been part of the TalkTalk culture for a year now. It was sparked from likeminded colleagues who wanted to see more awareness and visibility for LGBTQ+ matters and events within the business. 12 months on and the network, named and voted by our colleagues, TalkPride has around 70 members with a core steering group of 10 employees covering an array of backgrounds, skills and points of view. The group hold monthly coffee mornings where colleagues can attend, chat, network, talk about anything they like and hear updates of any up and coming dates on the LGBTQ+ calendar. We’ve also been working with other companies like Vodafone to help us form and shape the group which has led to a close relationship with wider LGBTQ+ networks across Greater Manchester. 2019 marks a big year for the group as not only will we be partaking in York Pride alongside our York’s UFO colleagues on Saturday 8th June, we’ll also be sponsoring Salford Pride’s Pink Picnic on Saturday 22 nd June. We felt as our HQ has moved to Salford we wanted to support our local LGBTQ+ community by sponsoring the event. The group is growing from strength to strength and as more members join we’re increasing our visibility within the business and our senior management have been fully supportive since day one. We’re really excited to get involved York Pride as our first ever TalkPride Pride event!
LNER Celebrates Summer of Pride On East Coast Route London North Eastern Railway (LNER) will be leading Pride celebrations on the East Coast route this summer. York, Edinburgh and Doncaster are among the locations LNER will be supporting Pride celebrations over the coming months. LNER will be decorating stations in Pride colours and a free glitter bar will be available to help visitors and customers add some extra sparkle to the celebrations. To launch the Summer of Pride, LNER staff from across the business welcomed organisers from all three of the Pride events at York Station alongside the LNER Pride Train. Adorned with a rainbow LNER logo and a rainbow heart, the train will travel up and down the East Coast, encouraging people to share their love for Pride by using #trainbow on social media. LNER community partners, the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) will also be taking part in the Pride activity and using the events as a way of promoting the Mental Health support they offer. Jennie Pitt, People Engagement and Corporate Responsibility Manager at LNER, said: “We are really focused on creating an inclusive workforce where our people feel able to be themselves at work. “We’re therefore delighted to be involved in Pride events across our route. It’s a brilliant way for us to demonstrate our support for the LGBT+ community and to help our customers and employees get involved in the celebrations.” Greg Stephenson, Chair of York Pride, said: “We are thrilled to be working with LNER, their commitment to Equality and Diversity for employees and customers alike is wonderful to see. It wouldn’t be possible for the York Pride team to deliver our event, which has grown to become the largest free one-day event in York, without the support and sponsorship of large local employers like LNER. “It’s great to see the Trainbow train still proudly running on the east coast mainline which proves LNER’s commitment to the LGBT+ community” In addition to the work they undertake to support Pride events, LNER recently signed up to an industry #nobystander campaign led by the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA) which demonstrates their support for an inclusive and diverse culture. As part of this work LNER has also signed up to the Stonewall Diversity Champions programme, specially focussed on creating a supportive working environment for their LGBT colleagues. TSSA Organising Director, Nadine Rae, said: “It’s really great to see LNER signing our No Bystander pledge and I pay tribute to them for getting on board. Commitment like this is crucial if we are to transform the rail industry - making it inclusive for LGBT+ people by 2025 in accordance with our Inclusive Rail campaign. “With our partners at Stonewall we want to encourage and educate our workforce, reaching out across the rail industry. So, I now hope to see other train operators signing the pledge, showing acceptance and refusing to be a bystander!”
