PRESIDENT'S CORNER Well, some might say, “Here we go again.” with the latest CDC recommendation to mask-up, again, despite having an above-average vaccination rate here in Rancho Murieta, or so we believe. However, we need to remember that we are still part of Sacramento County, which remains below the 50% level for vaccinations, which is concerning, so precautions are once again necessary. Here is what the Sacramento County Public Health Department has to say most recently: “The drastic increase in cases is concerning – as is the number of people choosing not to get vaccinated,” said Sacramento County Public Health Officer Olivia Kasirye. “Our best protection against COVID-19 continues to be the vaccine. We urge all eligible residents to get vaccinated to protect themselves and their family and friends.” Those who are not vaccinated or only partially vaccinated remain highly vulnerable to the infectious Delta variant. Vaccinations have proven to be effective against the Delta variant and all variants of COVID-19 – slowing the rate of spread and mitigating severe symptoms. All residents 12 and older are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Currently, only 47 percent of the County’s population is fully vaccinated. Public Health is increasing efforts to offer free, easy, and accessible vaccinations clinics to Sacramento County residents. For a list of vaccination clinics, visit the Sacramento County Public Health Vaccination website, call 2-1-1 or visit www.MyTurn.ca.gov. Homebound residents can contact 2-1-1 to request in-home vaccination services. A FEW REMINDERS Kids Driving Golf Carts- Despite our continued reminders about our community rules for golf carts, we get many calls and see many kids driving golf carts throughout the community. With the new rules requiring all golf carts to be registered with RMA and have an appropriate registration tag, it is just a matter of time until we can better identify the owners of the golf carts driven by children. In addition to how dangerous such a practice can be, the fines for this violation will be significant. Rancho Murieta is a Firewise Community- Rancho Murieta Association applied to the National Fire Protection Association to become a Firewise USA Community this past Spring. Our application was approved, and the work has already begun to implement some of the many recommendations from Firewise to prepare our community for wildfire risk reduction. RMA has applied for significant resources through the CAL Fire grant program and will focus local funds each year on fuel mitigation and other wildfire reduction recommendations. Learn more about how to prepare your home by visiting the Firewise USA website. Emergency Preparedness and Evacuation Plan- All residents should have received the Rancho Murieta Emergency Plan this past Spring. You can also view the Plan on the RMA website at rma.nabrnetwork.com under the Resources menu. The next step is to attend one of the many workshops RMA will provide, starting this September, to learn more about preparing your home, family, and life for some of the most prevalent disasters that could occur in our community. The workshops will be repeated in person and via Zoom sessions throughout the year to reach as many residents as possible—more info to follow. Thank you for staying informed. We need all RMA members to register on the RMA website. Would you please help us spread the word about rma.nabrnetwork.com. Sincerely, Cheryl McElhany President, Board of Directors

Q: How long have you lived in RM, and what drew you here? A: My wife Angie and I moved to RM from Elk Grove in COMMUNITY the summer of 2001. Our two kids were just 8 and 5 at the time. Angie and I both worked in the pro shop at SPOTLIGHT Cherry Island Golf Course when we were in college, so living in a golf course community was our dream setting. JOHN FREDRICH We didn't think we could afford to buy a home in Rancho Vice President, RMCC Board of Directors Murieta but were surprised that home prices here were nearly identical to Elk Grove at that time. We sacrificed 30-40 minutes for the commute but never regretted our decision to come out here. We are thankful every day to be part of such an amazing community. And we get to play a lot of golf too! Q: How long have you belonged to the Country Club, and what role/title do you have at the Country Club? A: We joined RMCC immediately when we moved out here in 2001. Neither one of us had even played the course before, but we joined sight unseen because we had heard it was an incredible place. We were not disappointed. Angie and I have held numerous roles at the Country Club. We started a Sunday couples golf group about 11 years ago that began with just a few foursomes but now has over 150 couples on its invite list. We continue to run events every 6-8 weeks. I have served on the RMCC Men's club for the last six years, and Angie now serves on the RMCC Women's Club board as Treasurer. I was elected to the RMCC Board of Directors in 2019, served as Secretary for the first two years, and am currently serving as Vice President. I am always willing to listen to members' ideas for the club. Q: How and why is the country club important to the overall well-being of the community? A: RMCC and the Rancho Murieta community are inseparably intertwined. The success (or failure) of either, no doubt, affects the other. Sadly, many in this community see it differently, mainly because they have no investment in the club, so it's easy to consider it dispensable. The courses meander through our community and share borders with so many homes. The beauty of the scenery and maintained grounds enhance the beauty of our homes. It is a source of pride for our residents, as the course is known throughout Northern California. If someone finds out you are from Rancho Murieta, the first thing they likely ask is, “how is the golf course?”. There are many wonderful features in Rancho Murieta that make it a great place to live, and the golf club is the crown jewel. RMCC's success is our success. Q: What vision do you have for the CC into the future? A: The club's long-term vision is a bit murky because the members currently do not own the club. We are essentially renters, which makes it much more challenging to invest in long-term projects. The first order of business would be to change the member/club relationship by having members buy the club, find an outside buyer, or extend the lease to a duration where a long-term investment is reasonable (15-20 years or more). The club wants to expand its amenities to include more activities outside of golf, like fitness, kids centers, and an Olympic-sized pool. These are all realistic possibilities for the club and the community, but this plan would require the entire community to get involved. Currently, only about 40% of the community are also members of RMCC, which creates the unsustainable position of some contributing but all benefiting. It has also created a resistance to support the club or for organizations like RMA and CSD to cooperate with RMCC. If everyone is invested, then it’s no longer an issue. Over the last decade or so, the club has shifted its attitude to welcoming the community. It has held more open events for organizations like ETC, the community church, blood drives, and so forth to try to invite more community involvement. But it is still forced to walk that fine line between providing value for its current membership and allowing access to the Community. The line disappears if everyone in the gates becomes a member. Q: Why do you recommend that someone should join the Country Club? A: RMCC has two outstanding golf courses to play, so even when there is a big tournament, there is always a course for you to play. We are the only 36-hole private facility in the Sacramento region, and RMCC is truly a golfer’s paradise. The Country Club offers SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: several membership levels, and some of the options do not require a pricey, long-term financial commitment. For the non-golfers, there are six lighted tennis courts, which are also lined for pickleball play. We offer yoga, and the club puts on RMA PHOTO CONTEST an array of social events such as live music on the patio, wine tasting, bingo, trivia nights, bridge clubs, art classes, cocktail making, and dance classes. COVID has impacted scheduling larger-scale events this past year, but this summer appears to have a full docket of various activities to offer something for everyone. But maybe the most enticing reason to become a club member is to be able to have a place to sit back and relax with your friends and family, AND ITS YOURS. You are a part of it. You are not just a customer but an active member with a voice and interest in what happens. We choose to live in this beautiful oasis outside of the hustle and bustle of city and suburbia. We have lakes and trails and great neighbors and well-maintained streets and wildlife and ballfields and splash parks and all the great amenities inside the gates. With its large clubhouse, expansive lawn area, and two golf courses, Rancho Murieta Country Club is a critical piece of all that makes the community special. Why wouldn’t you want to be a part of it? Q: Would you like to add anything else? A: It’s no secret that I’ve been a cheerleader for the club for some time, long before I was on the board. I am forthcoming and transparent, and I want people to become members, but I also want them to be happy with the decision to become members. I know there are issues and problems, and I know I don’t have a solution for all of them, but I am more than willing to listen to any thoughts about how to make the club the best it possibly can be. My contact information is on our website, but if anyone happens to see me in passing and wants to discuss something about the club, I am all ears. Thanks for giving me the time to share my thoughts with you.
FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER KEVIN HUBRED LEAF BLOWERS Since February 2021, the Compliance & Maintenance Committees, Management, and the Board (collectively, “RMA”) have addressed residents’ requests to consider creating a rule that would ban gas-powered leaf blowers. The recommended ban was to consider reducing noise and pollution, interfering with daily life here at Rancho Murieta. It has been reported that many cities and counties in California have established laws concerning the use and enforcement of gas-powered leaf blowers. Laws range from a complete ban to a restriction of decibels (dBA) and the times that they may be used. The city of Folsom, CA has an exterior noise level standard for use based on the dBA level (50-55 dBA or lower); and, the City of Sacramento has a new code for pollution, stating that “No leaf blower use will be permitted when the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaches 101” and includes gas, electric, and battery-operated leaf blowers. Most professional leaf blowers are designed and manufactured at a level of 65 dBA and higher. At their July 20, 2021 Board meeting, the Rancho Murieta Association Board of Directors determined that it would be difficult to enforce such a ban and decided to leave the decision- making to Sacramento County and California to prohibit and enforce gas-powered and high decibel leaf blowers. The Board, however, recommended informing the Rancho Murieta community about community concerns regarding noise levels and pollution. Residents can do their part by refraining from using gas-powered leaf blowers (and other landscape equipment) by replacing/purchasing quieter and non-gas-powered leaf blowers to help reduce excessive noise and help reduce pollutants, with low dBA levels (50 dBA or lower.) The Board is also recommending that landscape contractors be made aware of the request to replace/refrain from using gas-powered leaf blowers and other gas-powered equipment with high dBA levels (65 dBA and above) to help reduce noise and pollution. Management will send letters directly to the RMA residents, local businesses, and landscape contractors to join our community effort to reduce noise and air pollution at Rancho Murieta. Thank you for your understanding and participation in reducing noise and pollution in our community. RMA Management
