Welcome Hello Athletes, Families and Supporters of the Kingscliff Triathlon, On behalf of the Local Management Committee, it is my pleasure to once again welcome and thank you for spending your weekend in wonderful Kingscliff. This will be our biggest March event ever, with over 1400 athletes and 270 kids. We are confident all races will be a great hit out for local and travelling athletes. Boasting idyllic tropical weather, the scenery is sure to make the course even more enjoyable. Kingscliff is a wonderful triathlon as it affords the opportunity for everyone to give it a go, whether it is for fun or you're racing for the podium - we wish you the best! I would like to acknowledge the invaluable support we have received from the staff of the Tweed Shire Council, Andrew from Tweed Holiday Parks, and the local volunteers who make the event so friendly. Finally a thank you to our friends and partners who support community sports events: Dave from Hammer Nutrition, Cindy from Eyeline, Bernard from Scody, Bill from Zero Athletic, and Mark from ECN Technology. And for now, we are focused on great coastal racing, and a fun weekend away in Kingy. Mike Crawley Race Director 4 3 5 4
Event Update (1) Swim Water Quality Operational Update The following information is provided to answer various questions and concerns from competitors. We feel these changes present the best balance to the complications we are facing due to recent weather events and are a reliable model. Water Quality Each day we monitor the water quality in Cudgen Creek. The water quality at the mouth of the creek up to Cudgen Bridge remains good during the incoming tides as it brings clearer ocean water. The creek water quality has slowly been improving but recent rains may impede this. The water clarity is reduced due to tea tree water draining from Cabarita Lake and soil run off during flooding. Swim Program The first swim will start at 6.50am subject to daylight, and will proceed in the following order: • Juniors • Big Kids • Pinky • Tempta • Sprint • Olympic Swim Starts and Finish Juniors, Big Kids, Pinky, and Tempta will start at the small beach where the creek meets the ocean (under the old Coastguard Tower) and swim up creek on the inbound tide to the main Moss St boat ramp. Sprint will start at the same small beach and the finish will be at the SLSA boathouse ramp (see maps), and there will be a run back to Transition on the boardwalk. The Olympic swim start will be in its usual position in Ed Parker Park and catch the start of the outgoing tide. Olympic 4 swim start (up creek from the bridge) water quality will be monitored and the13 3 5 start location will be adjusted based on water quality and advice from Surf Life Saving. 4
Event Update (2) Well-Being and Hygiene NXsports has been progressively enhancing hygiene in its operations at recent events to maintain the well-being of our friends, competitors and spectators, in particular to concerns surrounding health. For the upcoming Kingy Triathlon the following changes in operations apply:- • The registration process in the Community Hall will be structured and we will reduce contact points and request upon entry all our friends to wipe their hands with sanitiser • We will for this Kingy Tri not provide fresh local fruit as a gift • The bag drop area will be more secure and disinfected prior and during use • The toilets will be disinfected and cleaned continuously throughout the day • First Aid and medical services will maintain a higher level of personal protection equipment • Water stations on the run course will only serve water and hydration, no open foods • The finish and recovery area will provide a water and food service on a one-to- one basis and move the participants through in a structured manner • There will be no washdown or showering or massage services. The World Health Organization should be referred to for all advice regarding your well-being https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice- for-public In addition if you are unwell, have a cold or suffer any other ailment we would expect you place your own well-being first given this is an endurance event, and also consider our community. In short, if you are unwell, do not race or attend on the day. Please get in contact with our team at kingsclifftri@nxsports.org if you wish to withdraw and they can advise your options.
