Mazda’s New 2014 SKYACTIV Mazda6 is the Real Deal - on the Road and at the Race Track By Jeff Zurschmeide W hen an automaker skips a model year and brings out a new car with next year’s year on it, you know that they want to grab your attention. The 2014 Mazda6 is a substantial redesign of Mazda’s popular mid-size four door sedan, and unlike most year-skippers, this car is so significant that it really deserves that extra year. The new Mazda6 offers the full suite of Mazda’s SKYACTIV technology in a pas- senger car. SCCA PRO Names Spitzner Rally Director TOPEKA, Kan. (April, 2013) – SCCA Pro Racing is pleased to announce that Kurt Spitzner has been named Rally Programs Director. The new position will serve as a liaison between SCCA Pro Racing and the Global Rallycross Championship. The GRC, which will be sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing, holds several rallycross events worldwide, with the majority held in the United States. Another key responsibility of the position is to create increased synergy between the club-level rallycross programs and the pro- fessional level series. This includes organiz- ing local volunteers to support GRC events as well as exploring the possibility of stag- ing joint events with SCCA RallyCross® participants. “Performance rallying is experiencing a significant upswing in both spectator and participant interest here in the United States,” Spitzner said. “What I find to be most interesting is the recent emergence of the Global Rallycross Championship here in this country, which I believe has the capability of transforming the world- wide perception and appeal of the sport in a very positive way. The SCCA’s broad membership base and operational expertise will provide valuable support to help the growth of the sport.” Kurt Spitzner - SCCA Pro Racing Rally Director Spitzner brings plenty to the post, with more than three decades of experience in the motorsports industry. His experience includes a prior stint with the SCCA in much the same position, however, on the club side of the organization as Director of Performance Rally from 1998-2003. “We are very pleased to be able to bring a professional rally-based program back to SCCA,” Tom Campbell, president of SCCA Pro Racing, said. “The Global Rallycross Championship management team is doing a great job of getting this series going and they have excellent growth plans. We are especially fortunate to be able to bring Kurt Spitzner back. His experience in motors- ports management, especially in rally-relat- ed programs, makes him the ideal person to lead the Pro Racing effort in Global Rallycross. As time permits, he will also be looking for other rally-based program op- portunities.” In Spitzner’s initial time with SCCA, he was responsible for much of the develop- ment and growth of the SCCA ProRally® program. His diverse involvement includ- ed oversight of everything from operations to partnership and marketing initiatives.

New Product for auto aficionados- doorshield car door protectors W e’ve all been there - you’re pulling into a parking lot and you notice that they’ve skimped on every space to paint a couple extra lines onto the pavement. And of course, every spot marked “Compact” has a 7-passenger SUV wedged into a space designed for a Civic. So you park as best you can, gauging the distance from your precious doors and fenders to the cars on either side. But you know that when you return, you’re likely to find your doors freshly dinged by the kids getting into the giant Tahoe to your left side, or the F350 on the right.
