Visit places of worship and old shophouses built in the 1800s, and take a close look at interesting fruit and spice trees planted along the way. Featured Interview Zestin Soh Manager (Community Parks), NParks Zestin ensures that neighbourhood parks under his care are well-maintained and safe places for residents to enjoy. His work also gives him the opportunity to research about the bees of Singapore. When did you discover your interest in bees? During an internship when I was in university, I conducted a research study on flower-visiting animals in Singapore’s parks, and I had my first up-close encounter with bees. I was surprised that many of them were colourful and did not live in colonies – unlike what I expected a bee to be! Community in Nature Initiative The Community in Nature (CIN) initiative is a national movement. It brings together all of NParks’ nature-related events, activities and programmes with the aim of connecting, engaging and inspiring diverse communities to help conserve our natural heritage. Take part in activities organised throughout the year with your family! These activities fall into four categories – Nature Adventurer, Wildlife Guardian, CIN Ambassador and SGBioAtlas Contributor. Participate in all four types of activities and collect unique stamps and puzzle pieces. Upon completion of each activity, you will also receive one of four puzzle pieces. Every Singapore Botanic Gardens, Learning Forest Tour Learning Forest (Programme Code: NR077) 2nd & 4th 9am – 10am Saturday of the month The Learning Forest features a network of boardwalks and elevated walkways that allows visitors to explore habitats ranging from a freshwater forest wetland to a lowland rainforest. Visitors can learn about freshwater forest wetland ecosystems at the Keppel Discovery Wetlands and walk amongst a collection of some of the tallest tree species in Southeast Asia at the SPH Walk of Giants. The Learning Forest is open daily from 5am – 12am. The SPH Walk of Giants and Keppel Discovery Wetlands will be closed from 7pm – 7am to maintain a conducive habitat for wildlife. Please note that no pets are allowed on this tour as the route requires access to the elevated boardwalk. Therapeutic Gardens – Join us as a Guide! If you love sharing knowledge and teaching hands-on activities in the outdoors, come join us as a Guide! With growing interest in the benefits of therapeutic gardens and horticultural therapy for elderly and dementia patients, a series of therapeutic horticulture workshops has been introduced at our Therapeutic Gardens. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals, who are keen to interact with the elderly, to join us as guides for the Therapeutic Horticulture Programme. Interested guides will be provided with training to learn how to better interact with the elderly and facilitate the various gardening activities. Training will include knowledge about the plants in the Therapeutic Gardens and various opportunities to interact with the greenery using the 5 senses. Once the training is completed, guides can choose to conduct the activities at any of our 3 Therapeutic Gardens – Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, HortPark or Tiong Bahru Park.
