GRCS Distinctives Mission Gray Road Christian School exists to glorify God by pursuing academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment, teaching from a worldview that places God’s Word as our starting and ending point, providing every student with an outstanding education, with the aim for success in the classroom and beyond. Vision Gray Road Christian School aspires to be a compassionate community where grace is given as God has given to us and the gospel is shared as the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. We pursue academic excellence but acknowledge that only the fear of the Lord leads to true knowledge and wisdom. We are dedicated to creating an environment where each student’s unique talents are seen, and their individual needs are met. Statement of Faith 1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:14-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21). 2. We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1-2; Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19; John 10:27-33). 3. We believe in: • The deity of Christ (John 10:33; Colossians 2:9) • His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:35) • His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15, 7:26; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:21-22) • His miracles (John 2:11, 5:19-23) • His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood on the cross (1 Corinthians 15:3; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 2:9; 2 Corinthians 5:21) • His bodily resurrection (John 11:25; I Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 10:9-10) • His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19; Ephesians 4:8-10) • His personal return in power and glory (Mark 13:24-27; Acts 1:11; Rev. 19:11-14) 4. We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature; and that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ and that only by God’s grace and through faith alone are we saved and are kept by the power of God unto eternal salvation (Titus 3:4-6; Gen. 6:5, 8:21; John 3:16-19, 3:36, 5:24; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:8-9; Ephesians 2:1-10). 2
5. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29). 6. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 12:12-13; Galatians 3:26-28). 7. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (Acts 1:8; Romans 8:13-14; I Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20; Galatians 5:16-26; Ephesians 4:30, 5:18). Statement on Marriage We believe in the biblical definition of marriage as the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union for life (Genesis 2:18-25) and that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other (1 Corinthians 6:18, 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4). We believe marriage is between one man and one woman for life and that it uniquely reflects Christ’s relationship with His Church (Eph. 5:21-33). We believe that marriage also serves as the foundational unit of a stable society (1 Cor. 7:2). We believe that any form of sexual immorality, as biblically defined, is sinful and offensive to God (Matt. 15:18-20; 1 Cor. 6:9-10). Statement on Gender and Sexuality We believe that mankind is woven together by God in the womb and that they are fearfully and wonderfully made by Him (Psalm 139:13-14). We believe God sovereignly designs each person as biologically male or female, and that as His creation, we should not seek to change what God has designed. The evidence of God-given gender goes down to the cellular level and cannot be changed. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:26- 27). We believe that since each person is made in the image of God, every person has value, and must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity (Col. 3:12-14; Luke 6:31). Statement on the Sanctity of Human Life We believe all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, born and unborn. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life (Psalm 139; Jeremiah 1:5). Statement of Final Authority The GRCS Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of this ministry’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, the elders of Gray Road Baptist Church are the final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application. History Gray Road Christian School opened in 1984 with an initial enrollment of 63 students. The school was started to ensure that the children of the church could receive a Christ-centered education. In the 3
ensuing years, many families from surrounding churches and community also realized the need for this type of education and supported the school by enrolling their children. Educational Philosophy With the basic understanding that God created and oversees the world in which we live, we strive to see that every subject is founded on the absolutes of God’s Word and acknowledges the pre-eminence of Jesus Christ in all things. With the guidance from the Holy Spirit, the teachers seek to relate truths from a Christian perspective in such a way that the pupil in turn applies his learning within the context of his society. Nondiscriminatory Policy We offer affordable, quality Christian education in an interdenominational setting. Gray Road Christian School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate based on race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policy, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs. 4
School Policies Admissions A. Admissions Policy Admission into Gray Road Christian School is a privilege afforded to parents who are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to give their children a Christian education. Parents wishing to enroll their children will proceed through the following steps: • Pick up an information packet in the school office. • Read and complete all materials. • Schedule an appointment to tour the facility (optional). The following forms must be completed for each child enrolled: • Application – Please complete both sides. • Parent Agreement – Please read carefully and sign in agreement of our policies. Return completed materials with application fee (cash or check) to the school office. When the application has been processed, we will confirm your child’s placement. Before the start of school, the following should be completed and returned to the office: • Updated Immunization Record • Field Trip Permission Slip • Emergency Card • Personal Care Form (Pre-K and K) • Release of Information Form for Criminal History Check Purposes • General Release B. Testing Scholastic and/or aptitude testing may be required as a prerequisite of admission for some students. Students new to our school may be given a readiness exam. The primary purpose of this exam is to alert parents and teachers to the academic standing of a student in comparison to the expectations of our school. C. Age Requirements • Children enrolling for the Early 3’s Pre-K Program must be 3 years old by December 31st of 2022. • Pre-Kindergarten children must be 3 or 4 years old by August 1st of 2022. • Kindergarten children must be 5 years old by August 1st of 2022. This policy has no exceptions. D. Financial Information All tuition and fees are handled through the financial manager. The following procedures will be observed: 5
• A tuition packet will be provided for each family upon enrollment. Included in this packet will be a tuition worksheet and payment coupons. If you choose our 10 monthly installment option, please understand that this is a payment plan and not a monthly rate. • No individual invoices will be sent home for monthly tuition installment. Payments are due in the school office by the 1st day of the month. A late fee of $20.00 is assessed for payments received after the 15th of each month. When possible and for your convenience, statements will be sent via Friday Folder or email before the 15th. DO NOT rely on these statements as your reminder to pay your monthly tuition. • We accept cash or check for payment, with a $25.00 fee assessed for all returned checks. • If you must withdraw your child, please give a two-week notice. No refund of tuition will be made for the month your child is withdrawn. In addition, due to the balanced calendar, your annual tuition will be recalculated based on the number of days the student was enrolled and you may be liable for additional fees. • In case of divorce or separation, both parents are liable for their child’s education expense. Gray Road Christian School is not bound by any divorce agreement specifying a parent’s responsibility for educational expenses. Parents are expected to work together to make timely tuition payments and communicate with the financial manager when necessary. • As a nonprofit organization, our monies go toward salaries, equipment, and material/curriculum. Our expenses do not diminish when students are absent for extended periods of time; therefore, monthly tuition installments remain due and payable, even if your child is absent. • For GRCS to be financially responsible, we rely on timely tuition payments. GRCS reserves the right to release a child from our program if payment is 45 days or more late. In addition, students whose accounts are not current at the end of the semester will be denied enrollment for the following semester. Information regarding application fees, book fees, and tuition is included in the enrollment and re-enrollment packets or may be found at grayroadchristian.com/forms or in the school office. E. Re-Enrollment Students who attend Gray Road Christian School are given first opportunity to enroll for the following school year during the month of January. Re-enrollment is an annual event. Re- enrollment form and fee must be returned before a place will be reserved for your child for the next school year. Open registration begins February 1st. Placement for the following school year will not be guaranteed until current tuition is up to date. If Gray Road Christian School receives more applications than openings available in a given class, the following criteria will be considered by the GRCS administration: • Students who are currently enrolled in GRCS • Families who are members of Gray Road Baptist Church • Child of a staff member • Students who have siblings currently enrolled in GRCS • Academic readiness for GRCS curriculum 6
• When two or more students are equally qualified, the order in which enrollment forms were received will determine status. F. Separation and Divorce / Custodial Rights We realize separation and/or divorce may occur within a family. If this is the case, we will do whatever we can to help the entire family through the situation. Our main goal is to maintain consistency for your child. If you are a single parent or have remarried and have custody of your child(ren), we need to have a copy of the custodial rights papers from the court. This is done for the protection of the child(ren), and for your reassurance that the child(ren) leaves the building with the correct person. We will not allow any child to leave the building with anyone other than a person who is on their “pick-up list.” It is your responsibility to call the office or send a note to the office if your child is to be released to another adult. You may update your pick-up list in the office at any time by stopping by or sending written direction. G. Change of Address If your family moves after enrollment, please complete a “Change of Address Form” so we can update our records. Forms are available at grayroadchristian.com/forms of in the school office. Facility Procedures For drop off and pick up of our children to run smoothly and safely, we need everyone to follow the procedures established. A. Parking • NO PARKING under the large canopy at any time. • NO PARKING in front of the steps just outside of the large canopy. • NO PARKING in the first row of spaces marked off by cones. • PLEASE PARK in the large parking lot and enter and exit at Entrance 4 only. B. Arrival • Morning car line runs from 7:55 – 8:15 a.m. Pull around back to entrance 6, forming two lines on either side of the orange cone. Please have your child unbuckled and ready to hop out of the right side of the car. • Please honor the stop sign once it is in place at the end of car line. • After 8:15 you will need to park and walk your student into the building at entrance 4. Students will be considered tardy after 8:15 a.m. Parents will not be permitted past the foyer except to make payments in the office. 7
C. Dismissal • Each family will be required to provide a “pick-up list” (located on the back side of the Student Emergency Card) to be kept in the school office. o This form MUST be completed by the first day of school! o If someone who is not on the “pick-up list” arrives to pick up your child, you will be contacted for permission and identification will be required. • To ensure the safety of our children during pick-up you will be given a car tag with your child’s name and teacher’s name. This tag must be displayed in the windshield or shown to the teacher to pick-up your child. You will be given two tags, but you may ask your child’s teacher for additional tags if more are needed. If the person picking up your child does not have the tag, they will be required to show identification to the attendant and the pick-up list will be consulted. This may require leaving carline while identification is checked. We will not allow the child to leave with anyone who is not on their pick-up list and reserve the right to check IDs at any time. • Please honor the stop sign and cones at all times when they are present • For half day dismissal, please form two lines feeding under the large canopy. Half-day carline runs from 12:00-12:10. • For end of day dismissal, please form two lines feeding around to the back of the gym (one under canopy, one outside canopy). If your child needs assistance with his/her car seat, please pull away from the car line before you stop to assist your child. This will enable car line to operate more efficiently. • All students not picked up by 3:30 will be signed into our After-School Care Program and subject to fees per our extended care fee chart. D. Building Security To provide the safest environment possible for our children, the following procedures are in place: • Entrance 4 will be staffed from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. for Before-School Care and late arrivals • Students arriving after 8:15 a.m. must be signed in at the Welcome Desk (Entrance 4). • We are a locked facility, so all doors will remain locked during the school day. • All visitors MUST be buzzed in at Entrance 4. • All students arriving late or being picked up early MUST enter/exit through Entrance 4 and sign in/out at the Welcome Desk or in the Office. • When visitors are allowed, they MUST sign in and out, so we know who is in the building at all times. B. Absences Punctual and regular attendance is extremely important for success in school. Parents are responsible for calling the school office before 9:00 a.m. to report absences and before 8:30 a.m. to cancel lunch on the day your student is absent. It will be the student’s responsibility to complete all work missed. The student has as many days to complete class work as he or she was absent. C. Tardiness Since transportation is the responsibility of the parents, the responsibility for punctuality is also largely that of the parents, and we urge your cooperation. Any student who comes to school tardy (after 8:15 a.m.) must be accompanied by parent or driver to the Welcome Desk at Entrance 4 to sign in. Students who arrive late will only be admitted to class with an “admit to class” pass, given by the office. 10
D. Leaving the Building or Early Pick-Up If a student needs to leave the building during the day (such as for a doctor’s appointment or lunch with a parent), please notify the teacher ahead of time. The parent must sign the student out at the Welcome Desk, and then back in upon returning. E. School Visits All authorized visitors/volunteers must report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor’s badge. Any person found to be in the building without a visitor’s badge will be directed back to the office for authorization. A criminal background check is required for all volunteers. Parents/grandparents wishing to join their student for lunch must receive prior permission from the office and have a current criminal background check on file. Health Policy A. Dispensing Medication G.R.C.S. will not keep a supply of non-prescription medication to give to students. We understand that some students have chronic medical issues and may need to have medication available at school. When this is the case, we can keep medications on file for your student, with adherence to the following procedure: • The medication must be in the original container possessing its original label (over the counter and prescription). • Your student’s first and last name must be printed on the container. • An authorization for medication form must be completed and included with the medication (available in the school office). B. Getting Medication to and from School All medication must be brought to the school office by a parent or guardian. It must also be picked up from the office by a parent or guardian. We will not send medication home with students. If your student will be in After-School Care, please let the office know so arrangements can be made for the medication to be picked up by an adult from the After-care supervisor. C. Severe Allergies, Asthma, etc. If your student has a serious allergy, asthma, or any other medical condition that could quickly become severe, please be sure the school office and your student’s teacher are made aware and given written protocol for medical procedures to follow. If your student requires an Epi-pen or inhaler, please send these devices to the office at the beginning of the school year according to the procedures above. D. School Health and Wellness Providing a healthy environment for your child is very important to us. Please do not bring your child to school with any infectious or communicable disease. If you observe any of the following symptoms, we ask that you keep your child home from school: 11
• Fever/vomiting/diarrhea within the last twenty-four hours • Fever over 100.4 within the last seventy-two hours (student may return earlier with a doctor’s note) • Excessive coughing • Discharge in or around the eyes • Questionable rash • Green or yellow runny nose If you keep your child at home due to sickness, please contact the school office (school@grayroad.com or 317-786-3559) and your child’s teacher. For COVID-related concerns, please contact the principal (chardee@grayroad.com). A doctor’s note must be sent to the office when a health-related absence for two or more days occurs. Should your child become ill while at school, he/she will be cared for separately from the other children. You will be contacted immediately and asked to pick up your child as soon as possible. If a parent or guardian cannot be reached immediately, persons on the emergency list will be contacted and asked to pick up your child. For minor complaints, such as headache or stomachache, we may encourage your student to try to make it through the day. If situation worsens, we will contact you for direction. E. Frequency and Dosage of Medication: Please include dosage and frequency information on the authorization form that you send with medication. However, please be aware that any requested amount that exceeds the manufacturer’s recommended dosage will not be given unless there is written approval from a physician. F. Head Lice To prevent any transmission of head lice, we will follow the NO NIT policy. If you suspect your child has head lice, please have them examined by a medical doctor. If your child is diagnosed with head lice, he/she will not be allowed to return to school until they are NIT free. If your child is diagnosed with head lice, contact the school immediately so we can take necessary steps to prevent additional cases. G. Medical Emergency If a medical emergency should arise, we will call 911. To ensure the safety of your child, the information on each student’s emergency card must be complete and up to date. Weather Related Closing Procedures There are occasions when it is necessary for us to cancel classes due to weather conditions. When making this decision, we try to consider the safety and travel conditions of our school families as well as the safety and travel conditions of our teaching staff (who come from a wide area). This decision is also influenced by decisions made by school districts in our area. We try to make our decision as early as possible, usually between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. on the morning of classes. Once a call is made to a TV or radio station, we have no control over how soon they will add us 12
to their listing. Your best avenue for early alert is through our “Remind text alert system”. Be sure to sign up for this service using our detailed instructions given out at the beginning of the school year. Grayroadchristian.com and Facebook will also have up to date information regarding closings or delays. WEATHER RELATED CLOSING INFORMATION for Gray Road Christian School can be found on the following: ➢ WISH TV 8 ➢ WRTV 6 ➢ WTHR TV 13 ➢ FOX 59 ➢ www.grayroadchristian.com ➢ www.facebook.com/GrayRoadChristianSchool ➢ TEXT ALERT- Parents must sign up for these text alerts (see specific classroom instructions) We very rarely cancel classes during the school day. If you are concerned about advancing weather conditions in your area, it is certainly your option to pick your children up early. Please call the office to make arrangements. If a two-hour delay should be called, there will be no Half-Day Programs. Academics A. Association Gray Road Christian School is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). This membership brings with it the strength of being in an international organization of Christian schools and the availability of student competitions such as spelling bees and speech meets. B. Curriculum Gray Road Christian School operates as a traditional Christian school. Thus, the classes are conducted in a standard classroom setting. Teachers with a strong concern for each student help to ensure better student understanding and more individualized instruction. Textbooks from publishers with a Biblical philosophy are used in all grades. C. Promotion Students who are doing below average work in two or more subjects on their semester report card may be withheld from promotion to the next grade level. D. Report Cards Report cards will be sent home at the end of each nine-week grading period. The purpose of the reporting system is to give parents and students an accurate indication of the progress that is 13
being made. At the end of the 1st grading period, a Parent-Teacher Conference will be scheduled to report initial progress of the students. Each student is evaluated in two areas: academic and conduct. The conduct grade is used to reflect attitude and overall behavior and, in the Christian school, is an important part of that student’s report card. The academic grade is used as a means of establishing student success in the learning of material. Evaluative measures include testing, homework, reports, projects, experimentation, etc. Report cards are to be signed by the parent and returned to the school within one week. There is a $5.00 charge for lost or destroyed report cards. In addition, students will not receive their report card if tuition accounts are not current. E. Grading Scale Letter grades of A, B, C, D, and F are used in all grades except the Pre-kindergarten classes. The grading scale is as follows: A+ 100 C+ 83-84 A 95-99 C 79-82 A- 93-94 C- 77-78 B+ 91-92 D+ 75-76 B 87-90 D 71-74 B- 85-86 D- 69-70 F. Testing Program Gray Road Christian School participates in testing programs designed to measure the student’s abilities and progress. This helps us evaluate the student, classroom, and school as a whole. Dress and Conduct A. Dress Code The purpose of our dress code is to maintain a standard of dress that is neat, modest, and appropriate. At all times, we try to honor the Lord in our appearance. General Guidelines: • Neat: Clothes should be clean and in good repair. • Appropriate: Students’ dress should not be distracting to others or promote values outside of those taught by the Bible or Word of God. • Modest: Students should remain decent and in good taste while standing, sitting, and playing. MODESTY can be defined as making sure our bodies are covered in such a way as to honor the Lord. All clothing is acceptable that fits this description EXCEPT the following: o Modest shorts are allowed, but must be no shorter than mid-thigh and not tight fitting o No revealing neckline, back, or midriff will be allowed 14
o Shirts must be long enough to be tucked in and must always cover the waistline o Leggings may be worn as long as shirt comes to mid-thigh *Decisions regarding specific dress code issues are made by the administration of Gray Road Christian School and are final. B. Potty Training Children MUST be potty-trained to enter Gray Road Christian School. A potty-trained child is a child who can do the following: • Be able to TELL the adult they need to go potty BEFORE they have an accident. • Be able to pull down their underwear and pants and get them back up without assistance. • Be able to wipe after using the toilet. • Be able to get off the potty by themselves. • Be able to wash and dry hands. • Be able to postpone going if they must wait for someone who is in the bathroom or if they are outside and away from the building. C. Conduct and Discipline Discipline at Gray Road Christian School is designed to help develop Christlikeness in the lives of the students. We are seeking to build character traits such as obedience, self-control, courtesy, respect, diligence, neatness, truthfulness, morality, and a positive attitude. The individual teachers are trained to handle classroom discipline, and most discipline situations are handled in that setting. Responses to discipline needs include a warning, time out from recess, call to parents, visit to the principal’s office, and possible suspension from school. D. Expulsion Procedures GRCS may expel a student from GRCS after other disciplinary procedures have failed. If a problem does develop, the parents will be contacted, and a meeting scheduled. A student with multiple discipline reports and required parent contacts will be subject to dismissal from our program. If this is done, or if parents withdraw their child, the fees associated with your child’s enrollment are due and payable. E. Electronic Devices Electronic devices or games are not permitted at school. If a student brings an emergency cell phone, it must remain in the student’s backpack. General Information A. Lunch Program/Bake Sale/Fruit Break Two options for lunch at Gray Road Christian School are available: 15
• The students may bring their lunches from home. Daily drinks may be pre-ordered on the lunch form for $.50 each. • The students may purchase hot lunch/pizza (including drink) by pre-ordering on our weekly lunch menu. Our lunch order form runs from Wednesday through Tuesday so that new forms can be sent home on Friday and returned on Monday. Wednesday is Bake Sale Day, offering the students sweet treats for $.25 each and parents the opportunity to get involved. Each class/grade sponsors a month by providing baked goods and parents to run the sale. Parents are given the option to pre-pay for the entire year ($8.00) or by semester ($4.00 per). The students also have a mid-morning fruit break. Each student must bring their own snack which should be healthy and nutritious in nature. Water fountains are currently closed. Staff and students are encouraged to bring water bottles to keep hydrated throughout the day. B. Friday Folders To help keep our office/parent communication organized, special “Friday Folders” will go home each Friday (there are a few exceptions around holidays and breaks). All forms from the office (lunch/milk order form, financial notices, PTF News, Friday Facts, etc.) will come home on Fridays in a large envelope. This is your child’s “Friday Folder” and will be used throughout the entire year. Please DO NOT throw this envelope away. “Friday Folders” are due back on Monday with the appropriate lunch orders, tuition, etc. All teacher communication will continue to be transmitted in the colored “Classroom Folder” that comes home daily. C. Parties We will have parties to celebrate special holidays throughout the year. Parents may be invited to sign up to help with these parties. On your child’s birthday, you may send party items and/or a special treat. These arrangements should be made with your child’s teacher. D. Lost and Found Lost and found items are placed in a designated area near the gymnasium. Parents are welcome to check this area with permission. At the end of each semester, unclaimed items are donated to the local mission. Please place your child’s name on all items. E. Chapel Gray Road Christian School wants to ensure that our students understand God’s Word as well as the privileges and responsibilities of being a Christian. A chapel service is held each Friday for the Elementary, Pre-K, and Kindergarten classes. F. Field Trips Field trips are an extension of the classroom and are therefore incorporated into the learning experience. As allowed, the classes will take trips to interesting, educational, and often entertaining places as a vital part of the instructional process. Parents are a welcome and necessary part of field trips. The children are transported to and from the field trip location by parent volunteers. Any adult participating in a field trip or other school events must have a 16
Criminal History check on file. Forms are available at grayroadchristian.com/forms or in the school office. Cost of field trips is not included in tuition or fees. Field trip fees will be communicated and collected by the teacher in charge. G. Car Seats/Booster Seats State law requires that children under the age of 8 must be secured in a car seat/booster seat unless they can properly fit in the seat belt. Please make sure to have your child’s name on their booster seat if leaving it at the school for field trip or other reasons. H. Parent-Teacher Fellowship At the beginning of the school year, various opportunities for parental involvement will be introduced. To provide the very best learning experience for our children, we depend on parent volunteers to help with the “extras”. Historically, our P.T.F. has contributed to our school by organizing volunteer opportunities, fellowship events, prayer groups and teacher encouragement activities. It has proved to be a good way for our parents to get plugged in to their child’s school, while getting to know the other Gray Road families. Plan to get involved in 2022-2023! I. Fundraisers and Donations To keep our fees as low as possible, there will be two all-school main fundraisers (fall/spring) and several ongoing fundraisers that run throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to actively participate in and support the fundraising activities so that fees will continue to be as low as possible. Detailed information will be conveyed through emails, flyers, and phone calls. Gray Road Christian School also welcomes any donations from parents which will save money for the school. Suggestions might include toys or equipment your children have outgrown or discards from your home or workplace that would be appropriate for classroom activities. J. Phone Calls, Texting and School Visitation • Neither teachers nor students will be available to leave classes to receive phone calls during instruction time (except in cases of extreme emergency). In addition, teachers are not always able to receive or respond to a text message. • If you must contact your teacher or student during the day, please call the office at (317)786-3559 to speak to administration and leave a message. The teacher will do their best to return your call during a break. • Students may use the phone only when necessary. Students are not to use the phone without permission. K. School Hours Regular School Office Hours Summer School Office Hours Monday through Friday Tuesday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. OR BY APPOINTMENT OR BY APPOINTMENT 17
Communication The staff at GRCS encourages face-to-face communication. If you have a question or concern, please call, stop by, or email to make an appointment with the appropriate person. We welcome your input as we work to foster an environment of community with a progression toward excellence. When concerns arise during the year, the following procedure should be followed: • All matters of concern should first be referred to the appropriate staff member, i.e., a classroom matter to a teacher, an extended care concern to the After-School Supervisor, etc. • All matters not resolved by the staff member should be taken by the concerned parent to Mr. Hardee. • Other matters not related to staff members’ area of responsibility should be taken directly to Mr. Hardee. • Matters which cannot be resolved by the Administration will be taken before the church elders in a written format. • If a parent is contacted by someone about a school matter of concern, the parent should tactfully refer the person to this policy so that they can appeal to the appropriate persons. • Please be mindful of placing concerns on FACEBOOK or other type of social media. It can be a very damaging form of communication, unnecessarily hurting individuals and the school ministry. 18
