PANTHER PATTER A weekly newsletter of St. Paul’s Lutheran School (January 14, 2021) WELCOME OUR STUDENT TEACHERS TO ST. PAUL’S Hello members of St.Paul's! My name is Brooke Newton and I am in my fourth year out of my five year program at Martin Luther College. I am majoring in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. At MLC, I was able to be involved in many different kinds of activities, such as intramural sports and become a supervisor on campus for the student activity room! I am from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and have lived there my entire life. I have two sisters- one older and one younger, and a younger brother, as well as a brother- in-law! I enjoy reading, camping, and traveling to different countries with my fiancé. We have been blessed to travel to 13 different countries together and explore God's creation! During my time at St. Paul's, I will be student teaching with Mrs. Fehr in second grade. I am very excited to learn and grow during my time here and am thankful for the opportunity to serve at your school and in your congregation! Brooke Newton Hello, St. Paul members! They provide our transportation and therefore they determine if it is safe for us to have school. Please listen to your local radio and television stations or sign-up for mobile text messaging at WKBT http://www.news8000.com/weather/news-8-to-go or WXOW http://www.wxow.com/category/162467/interactive-radar for weather alerts and announcements concerning school closings. The public schools also determine if there will be an early closing. Generally, we will only be sending students home early from the school district which closes early. Other students may also be released, but only to their parents, and only if parents come to school and pick up their own children. If both school districts close early, St. Paul’s will close also. In that case, parents would be asked to pick up their students by a designated time. On a rare occasion, one of the public schools may start late. If that happens, we will start on time and those children whose buses are running late will arrive at school late unless their parents are able to bring them in at the regular time. They will not be marked tardy. Pre- ordered hot lunches will be ordered that morning for all late students. Students who ride a Luther bus will not have bus transportation when Luther is closed and will need to provide their own transportation to and from school. If the public schools are not in-person, please watch ParentSquare and for text alerts, when there is questionable weather. MPORTANT UPCOMING MEETING FOR MEMBERS OF ST. GREAT THINGS HAPPENING AT ST. It’s National Adult Crossing Guard Week. PAUL’S LUTHERAN SCHOOL Thank you to those who help to keep our Cuneiform? What’s kid’s safe! that? Cuneiform is a system of writing first developed by the Sumerians of Mesopotamia around 3,00-3,500 years before Christ was born in Bethlehem. Writers used a stylus to press the symbols into soft clay. Students in seventh grade created their own cuneiform symbols and wrote messages in play dough. They then practiced reading messages from others. Translating pictures to words, sounds, or letters takes time. An exercise like this makes it clear that a standardized system makes communication much more efficient!
