                           Today’s Theme:
PALM SUNDAY: HIS HUMILITY, OUR HOPE
The events of Palm Sunday might not seem pivotal to our salvation.
Christ sheds no blood on this day. However, Palm Sunday sets the tone
for all of Holy Week. It perfectly illustrates that Jesus came to be the kind
of king this world will never understand: one who conquers his enemies
by surrendering to them, one who crushes his opposition by himself
being crushed, one whose path to kingly exaltation begins with
humiliation. This is the kind of King we have marching into battle as one
of us and for all of us this week. As a result, we are drawn to him in faith
rather than driven away in fear. This humble King is our only hope.

Palm Sunday April 9, 10, & 11, 2022 - Emanuel Lutheran Church New London, Wisconsin
Dialog for Palm Sunday
In the name of the Father and of the ☩Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Dear friends in Christ, for five weeks of Lent we have been waiting for
our Conqueror to appear. Christ came into our world to defeat our
great enemy, the devil and to triumph over the shame of our sin. On
the Sunday before Passover, he entered into his own city to complete
his work as our Messiah: to suffer, to die, and to rise again.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in
the highest!

As those who saw him shouted their praises in the words of the
Scriptures, so we join or praise to theirs in the words of the Psalm:
O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
His love endures forever.

Open for me the gates of righteousness;
I will enter and give thanks to the Lord.

This is the gate of the Lord
Through which the righteous may enter.

O Lord, save us;
O Lord, grant us success.

You are my God, and I will give you thanks; You are my God, and I will
exalt you.
O Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures
forever.

O Lord Jesus Christ, lead us each day to follow you with faithfulness
and serve you with joy.
Accept our praise, and listen to our prayers as we rejoice in your
triumph.

                                     3
Join to sing:

My heart for joy is springing
And can no more be sad.
My soul is filled with singing,
   Sees only sunshine glad.
The sun that cheers my spirit
   Is Jesus Christ, my King,
   The heav’n I shall inherit
   Makes me rejoice and sing.

Blessed Is He (10:30am) Sunday School Anthem

Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!

   “Hosanna in the highest!”
   That ancient song we sing,
   For Christ is our Redeemer,
The Lord of heav’n, our King.
O may we ever praise him
With heart and life and voice,
   And ever in His presence
   Eternally rejoice!

Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!

                           The Word
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.

                                    4
Prayer of the Day
Let us pray.

We praise you, O God, for the great acts of love by which you have
redeemed us through your Son, Jesus Christ. As he was acclaimed by
those who scattered their garments and branches of palms in his path,
so may we always hail him as our King and follow him with perfect
confidence; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
now and forever.
Amen.

First Reading Isaiah 42:1–4

Isaiah foretold the coming Servant of the Lord whose ministry would be
one of great power and also great humility.
1“Here
is my servant, whom I uphold,
       my chosen one in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him,
and he will bring justice to the nations.
2He will not shout or cry out,

or raise his voice in the streets.
3A bruised reed he will not break,

and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.
    In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;
4he will not falter or be discouraged

till he establishes justice on earth.
In his teaching the islands will put their hope.”

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Second Reading Philippians 2:5–11

Paul describes the humility of Jesus and encourages us to imitate it.
    5
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as
Christ Jesus:
6
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his
  own advantage;
  7
   rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
     being made in human likeness.
  8
And being found in appearance as a man,
     he humbled himself
     by becoming obedient to death—
       even death on a cross!
9Therefore
God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,

in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Gospel Luke 19:28–40

Through the humility exhibited by his choice to enter Jerusalem on a
donkey Jesus would accomplish great things.
28After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
29As
he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount
of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30“Go to the
village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there,
which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31If anyone asks
you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’ ”
32Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told

them. 33As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are
you untying the colt?”
34They replied, “The Lord needs it.”

35They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus

on it. 36As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

                                                              8
37
When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount
of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in
loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
38“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
  39
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke
your disciples!”
40“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise be to you, O Christ!

Children's Message (Sunday)
At the Sunday services, children are invited forward for a special message.
Please join to sing the hymn as they come forward.

Jesus loves me, this I know,
for the Bible tells me so.
       Little ones to him belong,
they are weak but he is strong.
       Yes, Jesus loves me.
       Yes, Jesus loves me.
       Yes, Jesus loves me.
       The Bible tells me so.

Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
    maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
     born of the Virgin Mary,
     suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
   He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
   He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
    the holy Christian Church,
       the communion of saints,
    the forgiveness of sins,
    the resurrection of the body,
    and the life everlasting. Amen.

Blessed Lord, you have given us your Holy Scriptures for our learning.

For the kingdom, the power,
