DAY 1 SYDNEY - LAUNCESTON Our journey begins in the morning in Sydney as we board our private aircraft and set our course South to make our way to the incredible island of Tasmania. Take in the views from a completely different perspective. Our Cessna Grand Caravan’s high wings and oversized windows are perfect for ‘flight seeing’. Keep an eye out as we pass over the Blue Mountains and the Southern Highlands. Our first stop is Albury, for a quick refuel and morning tea. Back on board our aircraft we make our way into Victoria and the Latrobe Valley. Enjoy lunch in the neighbouring town of Traralgon. After lunch we make our way across the Tasman Sea, enjoying sights over the rugged coastline and Flinders Island. We arrive in Launceston for an evening of relaxation and gourmet delights. Experience magnificent views of the Tamar River and sumptuous modern Australian cuisine at Hallams Waterfront Seafood Restaurant. Enjoy fresh local produce accompanied by local wines. DAY 2 LAUNCESTON - FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast at the Diverge restaurant at our accommodation, before we begin our day exploring the Tamar Valley. Our private guide meets us this morning to take us on a journey through the rolling hills and vineyards to sample the produce and learn about the area. Famous for its cold climate wines, the Tamar Valley has over 60 vineyards. Today we will visit 4 boutique vineyards each with their own unique flair. After a day of exploring the wineries we make our way back to the airport for a short flight across to Wine Glass Bay - located in the picturesque Freycinet National Park. Our aircraft takes us to a local airstrip close to our accommodation and amongst nature. This breath-taking coastline is famous for its untouched natural beauty, with pristine waters and an abundance of wildlife. We spend the evening relaxing at the luxurious Freycinet Lodge in elegant surroundings, with magnificent views and fresh, local produce. DAY 3 FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK - HOBART Catch the sunrise over the Tasman sea and enjoy breakfast at the Freycinet Lodge, as we begin our day exploring the surrounding waters of the National Park. We make our way across to Coles Bay where we board the Schouten Passage II, a Tasmanian built, luxurious 150 seat catamaran. Climb aboard and enjoy uninterrupted views of the bay from the Sky Lounge. Our cruise takes us across the bay to explore white sandy beaches only accessible by boat. Explore Schouten Island, home to little penguins and short tailed shearwaters, amongst other native birds. We then explore the nearby Tasman Sea towards Wineglass Bay, a remarkable landscape with sheer cliffs, blow holes and hidden sea caves. Enjoy lunch in the Sky Lounge with local oysters, alongside salmon and smoked meats served with wines from Tasmania's east coast and artisan brews. After lunch we board our private plane for a cruising flight down to Hobart. A short 30 minute flight takes us into the vibrant city, where we spend the evening relaxing with dinner and drinks at the Drunken Admiral. DAY 4 HOBART - TASMAN ISLANDS - PORT ARTHUR A day of discovery awaits as our local guide takes us on a journey exploring Hobart and its surrounding landscapes. We are going to spend the day out and about amongst nature so make sure you dress warmly for today's adventures! We meet our guide at the Pennicott Wilderness Centre in Hobart. A coach transports us to Eaglehawk Neck where we join our cruise to explore the dramatic coastline and wildlife of the region. Witness the highest vertical sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere at Cape Pillar. We explore waterfalls, rock formations, archways and deep-sea caves. Cruise amongst an abundance of wildlife, including seals and sea birds in their thousands. Our cruise takes us into areas where we are likely to see the feeding frenzy of diving gannets, albatross and sea eagles wheeling on the wind, cliff-nesting cormorants and peregrine falcons, or a pod of playful dolphins surfing the bow wave of the boat. We disembark at the historic site of Port Arthur where we enjoy lunch. Learn the history of the Port, spanning from the convict stories of the penal settlement to the ship building trade. Our coach will transport us back to Hobart where we will enjoy dinner at Macq01, with a menu that showcases Tasmanian produce and boutique growers. DAY 5 HOBART - STRAHAN Awaken in your waterfront room and enjoy a leisurely start to the day with breakfast at Maq01. Our private transport arrives later in the morning to take us on a journey to one of the world's finest distilleries. Sullivans Cove is home to the 'World’s Best Single Cask Single Malt' as awarded by the World Whiskies Awards, enjoy a private tasting of these fine spirits and a browse of the distillery. We then make our way to Hobart Airport for our next flight across to the harbourside village of Strahan. Take in the spectacular sights as we fly across to Tasmania's west coast. Rugged mountains and abundant lakes are plenty. Keep an eye out for Lake Gordon and Lake Pedder, which once were glacial outwash lakes. Our aircraft touches down in Strahan in the afternoon, with plenty of time to settle in at our waterfront accommodation and watch the sunset. Dinner tonight comes with a view across the harbour, at Hamers Bar & Bistro. Enjoy fresh seafood and hearty pub-style meals with a range of Tasmania's best brews. DAY 6 STRAHAN - KING ISLAND Another day of serenity amongst nature as we cruise the magnificent Gordon River, in the heart of the UNESCO Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Today we enjoy the award winning service on the Gordon River Vessel as it glides across the river in "Whisper Mode" to experience the sounds of nature. Take a walk through the temperate rainforest, learning of the local flora and fauna while wandering elevated boardwalks that thread their way between the magnificent rainforest species. Visit a working fish farm and enjoy guided tours at Heritage Landing and Sarah Island. After a gourmet lunch, showcasing regional Tasmanian produce, we make our way back to Strahan Airport for our next stop on our journey. Aboard the Cessna Caravan we make our way to the remote King Island via Wynyard. Enjoy the views of Tasmania's coastline as we fly north and across Bass Strait. We land in King Island in the early evening and are met by our local guide, who will take show us King Island over the next few days. Tonight we dine at 'Wild Harvest' restaurant for an ocean to table and paddock to plate experience showcasing King Island's best produce. Relax tonight at the Island Breeze Motel, with views to the coast and Currie Lighthouse. DAY 7 KING ISLAND This morning you have the choice to enjoy 18 holes of golf at the award winning Cape Wickham Golf Links or explore the island with our local guide. We will meet with our golfers again at lunchtime for a culinary treat at the Cape Wickham restaurant. For those of us touring, our first stop is at the town of Currie, with a history of shipwreck salvage, agriculture and fishing and a sleepy seaside village atmosphere. We visit the King Island Kelp Industries to learn about this unique trade. We then make our way to the stunning surf beach, British Admiral beach, one of the locations where the kelp harvesters collect their produce. Take a walk along the beach while our guide shares stories of the history and shipwrecks. Following our beach walk we enjoy morning tea and then make our way to 'Shag Lagoon', a hot spot for viewing the island's wetland bird species in a purpose built bird hide. Our next stop is the most northerly point of King Island, Cape Wickham, home to Australia's tallest light house and many shipwreck tales. We then head across to the golf club to meet the rest of the group for lunch with a view. Following lunch, we make our way to 'Disappointment Bay', but don't be fooled by the name, it is one of the most spectacular on the island! Enjoy the afternoon at the award winning King Island Dairy, with a cheese tasting and a chance to browse the fromagerie. DAY 8 KING ISLAND - FLINDERS ISLAND This morning we depart King Island for a coastal scenic flight to spectacularly rugged Flinders Island. Rich in natural beauty and history, the island is the largest in the the Furneaux Group of islands, a group of approximately 100 islands located at the eastern end of Bass Strait. The islands were named after British navigator Tobias Furneaux, who sighted the eastern side of these islands after leaving Adventure Bay in 1773 on his way to New Zealand. We land at Whitemark Airport just in time to enjoy a picnic lunch in the fresh air at Trousers Point Beach. This afternoon we will continue exploring with our local guide. Visit the Furneaux Museum and learn of the tragic history of events that occurred at Wybalenna. Our journey continues through the farmland of the east coast to Furneaux Lookout, then to Vinegar Hill for spectacular view across the islands of Franklin Sound and the town of Lady Barron. This evening we dine at the Furneaux Tavern with an outlook over Franklin Sound – one of the island’s best views. DAY 9 FLINDERS ISLAND - SYDNEY This morning we bid farewell to the Tasman Sea as we fly across into eastern Victoria. We make a quick fuel stop in West Sale before we land back NSW, in Albury to enjoy lunch by the river. Back on board our aircraft we fly north towards Sydney, take in the views as we fly over the lush Blue Mountains. Sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery from this vantage point as we take you home. OUTBACK BY AIR COVID SAFE POLICY Outback By Air is committed to providing Outback Tours that showcase the amazing Australian Outback whilst keeping your safety as our number one priority. To ensure you are able to travel safely during these times we have developed a COVID-19 Policy as detailed below. Our policy is followed by our crew and passengers, in the lead up to, as well as whilst on tour. As of 1/11/21 all Outback By Air tours will require passengers and crew to have received both doses of a COVID vaccine. This is necessary to ensure that we are able to travel safely within NSW as well as interstate and into remote regions. As per government guidelines, there are medical exemptions in place for passengers unable to receive a vaccine – please consult with your GP. Different states and venues may have varying COVID Policies- all Outback By Air passengers and crew must also follow the rules of these locations. Passengers will be advised that while wearing a mask may not be mandatory in some locations, NSW Health strongly recommends people wear a mask when unable to physically distance. Crew are instructed to limit contact with others – no shaking hands or touching objects unless necessary. All passengers are provided with individual alcohol-based hand sanitiser, face masks and individual waste bags. Passengers will complete a verbal screening questionnaire before embarking on the tour Passengers will have their temperature tested each time they board the aircraft. Both staff and passengers are encouraged to practice good hand hygiene and good sneeze/cough hygiene by washing hands often with soap and water or with hand sanitiser (provided by OBA) before and after eating and after using the bathroom. They are encouraged to cover nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing, disposing of tissues and immediately washing hands. They are encouraged to avoid touching their mouth, eyes and nose. This health advice is provided in the seat pocket of every passenger seat. Passengers will be instructed to stay in their assigned seats for each flight. Seats, tables and door handles will be wiped with disinfectant after each flight by a member of staff. Where possible, OBA will seat groups together. If a member of staff or a passenger reports symptoms of Covid, OBA will immediately contact the National Coronavirus hotline (1800 020 080) and follow all instructions.
