Our Weekly Update Dear Parents and Carers, Happy New Year! We start 2021 with a sense of déjà vu.. We hope you all had a restful holiday and were able to spend time as a family. Following the announcements on the 2nd and Taking Stock then again on the 4th we face another term of disruption to the school routine. Fortunately we are in a far better position this time round; we have managed to distribute more than 100 devices to families to support home learning, have developed the online Achieving Excellence Together provision and have an all round better understanding of what to expect over the coming weeks. From next week Maths and English sessions will be delivered live by the class teachers, live circle times will continue and the 5 hour timetable will be fully implemented. Don’t forget to login at 9am for the morning register and look out for the individual year group timetables. As always; if you have any questions please feel free to contact the office or email the teaching staff. Don’t forget to check updates on the newly refurbished and relaunched website Here: https://www.stockwell-pri.lambeth.sch.uk/ Contact us Please be reminded that there is no access to the office as it is closed to parents. Should you need to speak to the office, please do so Friday 8th January 2021 by phone. Alternatively, please email us on: clericalofficer2@stockwell-pri.lambeth.sch.uk
Online Learning Y3 children did their start of unit creative task for Brixton Battle (WW2). They drew gas masks after we discussed that children wore masks for protection then in a similar way that we do now!
Staying safe Online Advice for parents: With many children now learning from home, they will be spending more time online, either doing their school work, watching videos or playing games. Technology is hugely valuable for education, as well as being entertaining, and a way to keep in touch with friends and family. However, it’s important we all consider how we can help keep children safer online, during this lockdown period, and always. Here’s what you can do to help keep your child safer whilst they are learning and having fun online: 1. Consider what they might see online: Children love to watch videos online and the funny, educational or creative content available means that YouTube is always a firm favourite! However, sometimes children can be exposed to videos that are not intended for them. YouTube Kids (aimed at children under 13) is a simpler, safer place for children to explore their interests through online video and has a range of family friendly videos, with less of risk of coming across something inappropriate. Remember, younger children should be supervised at all times when online. You can find more information on YouTube Kids here: YouTube: what parents need to know | Parent Info. 2. Set parental controls on your home devices: Parental controls have been designed to help you manage your child's online activities. There are various types, some of which are free but others which can be bought. However, nothing is totally fool proof and no control will monitor conversations happening within sites or apps, so they shouldn't replace the need for you to support and advise your child using the internet. For more information and step by step instructions on setting up parental controls, visit Parental Controls & Privacy Settings Guides - Internet Matters 3. Chat little and often about online safety: If you’re introducing them to new learning websites or apps whilst school is closed, take the op- portunity to talk to them about how to stay safer on these services and in general. Ask them if anything ever worries them while they are online and make sure they know if they ever feel worried, scared or sad while online, they can get help by talking to you or another adult they trust. For tips to begin this conversation with your child, read: having a conversation with your child. 4. Take a look at Thinkuknow: Thinkuknow is the national online safety education programme from the National Crime Agency. Thinkuknow offers learning activities, advice and support for children and young people aged 4-18 and their families. Visit their parent’s website for infor- mation and advice on a range of topics from online gaming and what’s appropriate for your child, to what to do if they see something inap- propriate online. Why not also take a look at their Online Safety At Home activity packs – simple, fun activity sheets you can do with your children to help them learn about different areas of online safety. You can get them here: home activity worksheets.

Children’s Centre Brixton Stockwell Better Start Area Group based children’s centre activities are suspended until further notice due to Covid 19 The new variant of Covid 19, the very high transmission rates and the high rates of infection at a local level mean that it is no longer possible for us to offer group based children’s centre services such as small group stay and play and baby bounce sessions. Courses for adults such as ESOL and parenting will also not be delivered in children’s centres at the moment. If you have registered for a course a member of the children’s centre team or one of the course organisers will be in touch with you directly to discuss alternative options for you. Health services such as ante and postnatal appointments and Health Review meetings for your baby or toddler will contin- ue to be offered in children’s centres by appointment. Other services such as support from a Better Start worker, Training and Employment advisor or the Citizen’s Advice service will be available by phone or online. We will continue to provide services such as home learning resource packs for you and your children to do together at home, food collection and rose voucher collection from Stockwell children’s centre. Services such as Chattertime groups and breastfeeding support groups will continue to be available online. You can continue to get children’s centre support by phoning 020 7926 2369 or completing this simple form. A member of the children’s centre team will contact you on the next working day.
