– 14 – A R O U N D T O W N An Evening of Music at Long Beach After a crazy year of quarantines, lockdowns and online lessons, the 8th Annual Teaching Drums’ Recital was finally held in June, outdoors at Long Beach in St. James (Nissequoque). What a beautiful evening to showcase the talented drummers of our community. 51 students ranging in age from 6 to adult were finally able to showcase their talent for an audience of friends, family and community members. Families brought beach chairs and picnic dinners and relaxed to music under the stars. Each student selected a song, edited the song and practiced it for months to perform on stage. How great to see these students cheered on by all. The audience was treated to a broad range of music – country, rock, pop, musical theater, heavy metal and old school rock ‘n roll. All participants received a medal, and trophies were awarded to the winners of the Fastest Hands Contest. This year’s winners were: Hailey Cinquemani (High School), Connor Galian (Middle School), Luca Ierano and Dylan Ierano (tied, Elementary) and Ryan Phaneuf and Conor Carlson (tied, Most Improved). Can’t wait ‘til next year! A special thank you to the Town of Smithtown and Councilman Tom Lohmann for supporting this fun event. OUR TOWN • JULY 2021
