All courses will complete one day of the five on work placement. Individual timetables are distributed at induction. Non-standard Applications Non-standard applicants are defined as applicants whose application is based on examination results other than the Irish Leaving Certificate or a recognised QQI award. All nonstandard applicants must provide documentary evidence that their qualifications/ credentials are recognised by the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland (www. qualificationsrecognition.ie). Please be advised that the process of having qualifications recognised may take a significant length of time and applicants are advised to commence the 13 process as early as possible. fees student fees Registration Fees A student registration fee of €160 is payable on registration. This fee contributes to resources, canteen subsidies and miscellaneous services to learners. Participant Contribution Charge A participant contribution charge of €200 was introduced by the Department of Education and Skills in 2011 and applies to all learners who enrol on an approved Further Education/Post Leaving Certificate programme. Eligible participants on FE/PLC courses of more than one year’s duration must pay the contribution for each year of that course. This levy is payable on registration. 34 Exemption from Participant Contribution Charge The following are exempt from paying the Participant Contribution Charge: • Full medical card holders in their own right and their dependent children. • Those who are eligible under the student grant scheme. • Those in receipt of the Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) or Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) allowances. Fees are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances. Examination Fees A QQI examination fee of €50 for Level 5 and €80 for level 6 is payable in term two in addition to the above fees. Other programmes (e.g. Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing and Barbering, Exercise and Health Fitness, the art and craft Courses at Grennan Mill Craft School and the courses at Grennan Equestrian Centre) have specific fees that apply to the certification bodies that provide awards in these areas. general budgeting Learners should budget for the cost of examinations, textbooks, materials, short courses and field trips. These costs may vary between programmes but the college will endeavour to provide as accurate information as possible on the costs that apply to each programme throughout this prospectus. student loans A student loan can help in many ways, whether it’s to pay for registration fees, rent, textbooks, course materials or just living expenses. Ormonde College of Further Education has negotiated a SmartOption Student Loan 35 agreement with St. Canice’s Credit Union, Kilkenny. These agreements facilitate learners on courses at Ormonde College of Further Education to progress to linked courses at WIT, ITC and Carlow College.
