    NOTE ON THE CHURCH CALENDAR
 “Ordinary Time” refers to the portion of the liturgical
    year that is not Christmastide (Advent through
   Epiphany) or Eastertide (Lent through Pentecost).
   Lectionaries will often count the weeks outside of
Christmastide and Eastertide by ordinal numerals (i.e.
Second Sunday after Pentecost or Proper 5). The term
  “ordinary” is a reference to this method of keeping
 the liturgical year, not an indication that this time is
                   “plain” or “normal”

                       PRELUDE

           QUOTES FOR REFLECTION
  The following Reflection Quotes are provided to catalyze
 thought, and are therefore not always representative of the
                   views of Grace Church.

Therefore, brothers, since we have confi-
dence to enter the holy places by the blood
of Jesus, by the new and living way that he
opened for us through the curtain, that is,
through his flesh, and since we have a great
priest over the house of God, let us draw near
with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil
conscience and our bodies washed with pure
water.
Hebrews 10:19–22
The altar which we now have is Christ alone,
and his sacrifice. For he was both priest, altar
and sacrifice, all in himself.
John Owen

“Because of your sin you can’t come in…”
Carl Laferton, The Garden, the Curtain, the Cross

“A great nation is like a great man:
When he makes a mistake, he realizes it.
Having realized it, he admits it.
Having admitted it, he corrects it.
He considers those who point out his faults
as his most benevolent teachers.”
Lao Tzu

The wrong we have done, thought, or in-
tended will wreak its vengeance on our souls.

        WORDS OF PREPARATION
          Liturgist: Rev. Bob Crossland

           SONG OF APPROACH
       Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Come, thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of God’s unchanging love.

Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Hither by Thy help I’m come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.
O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let that grace now like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.
Words: Robert Robinson (1758); Alt: Martin Madan (1760). Tune: NETTLETON

                       CALL TO WORSHIP
                           Psalm 92:1-4, 12-15
It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
to declare your steadfast love in the morning,
and your faithfulness by night,
to the music of the lute and the harp,
to the melody of the lyre.
For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your
work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy.
The righteous flourish like the palm tree
and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
They are planted in the house of the Lord;
they flourish in the courts of our God.
They still bear fruit in old age;
they are ever full of sap and green,
to declare that the Lord is upright;
he is my rock, and there is no unrighteous-
ness in him.

          PRAYER OF APPROACH
          Concluded by the Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who is in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, forever. Amen.
SONG OF PRAISE
        Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder
Let us love and sing and wonder,
Let us praise the Savior’s name
He has hushed the law’s loud thunder,
He has quenched Mount Sinai’s flame
He has washed us with His blood,
He has washed us with His blood
He has washed us with His blood,
He has brought us nigh to God

Let us sing though fierce temptation,
Threatens hard to bear us down
For the Lord, our strong salvation,
Holds in view the conqu’ror’s crown
He, Who washed us with His blood,
He, Who washed us with His blood,
He, Who washed us with His blood,
Soon will bring us home to God

Let us wonder grace and justice,
Join and point to mercy’s store
When through grace in Christ our trust is,
Justice smiles and asks no more
He, Who washed us with His blood,
He, Who washed us with His blood
He, Who washed us with His blood,
Has secured our way to God

Let us praise and join the chorus,
Of the saints enthroned on high
Here they trusted Him before us,
Now their praises fill the sky
You have washed us with Your blood,
You have washed us with Your blood
You have washed us with Your blood,
You are worthy Lamb of God.

           SCRIPTURE READING
                 Luke 11:37-41
While Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee asked
him to dine with him, so he went in and re-
clined at table. 38 The Pharisee was aston-
ished to see that he did not first wash before
dinner. 39 And the Lord said to him, “Now you
Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and
of the dish, but inside you are full of greed
and wickedness. 40 You fools! Did not he who
made the outside make the inside also? 41 But
give as alms those things that are within, and
behold, everything is clean for you.”

         PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin!
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you may be justified in your words
and blameless in your judgment.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have broken rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.
For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I
would give it;
you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you
will not despise.

         ASSURANCE OF PARDON
               Hebrews 10:19-23
Therefore, brothers, since we have confi-
dence to enter the holy places by the blood
of Jesus, 20by the new and living way that
he opened for us through the curtain, that
is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a
great priest over the house of God, 22let us
draw near with a true heart in full assurance
of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from
an evil conscience and our bodies washed
with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the con-
fession of our hope without wavering, for he
who promised is faithful.

        SONG OF REMEMBRANCE
          O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus
O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me!
Underneath me, all around me,
Is the current of Thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward
To Thy glorious rest above!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth,
Changeth never, nevermore!
How He watches o’er His loved ones,
Died to call them all His own;
How for them He intercedeth,
Watcheth o’er them from the throne!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Love of every love the best!
’Tis an ocean vast of blessing,
’Tis a haven sweet of rest!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
’Tis a heaven of heavens to me;
And it lifts me up to glory,
For it lifts me up to Thee!

             from Exodus 26:31-30:21

“A nd you shall make a veil of blue and
       purple and scarlet yarns and fine
twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim
skillfully worked into it.

33
  And you shall hang the veil from the clasps,
and bring the ark of the testimony in there
within the veil. And the veil shall separate for
you the Holy Place from the Most Holy.

36
  “You shall make a screen for the entrance of
the tent, of blue and purple and scarlet yarns
and fine twined linen, embroidered with nee-

“Y ou shall make the altar of acacia wood,
      five cubits long and five cubits broad.
The altar shall be square, and its height shall
be three cubits.

3
  You shall make pots for it to receive its ash-
es, and shovels and basins and forks and fire
pans. You shall make all its utensils of bronze.
4
  You shall also make for it a grating, a net-

On the south side the court shall have hang-

    incense; you shall make it of acacia
wood.

6
  And you shall put it in front of the veil that
is above the ark of the testimony, in front of
the mercy seat that is above the testimony,
where I will meet with you. 7 And Aaron shall
burn fragrant incense on it. Every morning
when he dresses the lamps he shall burn it...

17
   The Lord said to Moses, 18 “You shall also
make a basin of bronze, with its stand of
bronze, for washing. You shall put it between
the tent of meeting and the altar, and you
shall put water in it, 19 with which Aaron and
his sons shall wash their hands and their feet.
20
   When they go into the tent of meeting, or
when they come near the altar to minister,
to burn a food offering to the Lord, they shall
wash with water, so that they may not die. 21
They shall wash their hands and their feet,
so that they may not die. It shall be a statute
forever to them, even to him and to his off-
spring throughout their generations.”

    INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE

          WORDS OF INSTITUTION

       COMMUNION ACCLAMATION
Let us proclaim the mystery of the faith:
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again!
Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.
Therefore let us keep the feast.
These are the gifts of God for the people of
God. Feed on them in your hearts by faith,
and with thanksgiving.

          SONG OF COMMUNION
               O Come to the Altar
Are you hurting and broken within
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself
Do you thirst for a drink from the well
Jesus is calling

   O come to the altar
   The Father’s arms are open wide
   Forgiveness was bought with
   The precious blood of Jesus Christ

Leave behind your regrets and mistakes
Come today there’s no reason to wait
Jesus is calling
Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy
From the ashes a new life is born
Jesus is calling

   Oh what a Savior
   Isn’t he wonderful
   Sing alleluia Christ is risen
   Bow down before him
   For he is Lord of all
   Sing alleluia Christ is risen

Bear your cross as you wait for the crown
Tell the world of the treasure you’ve found
