Operation Manual MBevo for Specialized Turbo Levo and Kenevo with BLEvo app or Garmin device Ausgabe: A
Dear Customer, Thank you for choosing our product! Please read the instructions carefully before using the device and keep them in a safe place. If the device is passed on, these instructions must also be handed over. The manufacturer assumes no liability if the information in this manual is not observed. In the context of further development, we reserve the right to change the product, packaging or description documents at any time. Features: • Assistance remains active up to 50 km/h or even up to 75 km/h • Compatible with BLEvo app: displays the real speed and distance over 25 km/h too. MBevo divides the speed by 2 or 3 and the BLEvo multiples back it to real speed. Therefore, the speed limit will be 50 km/h if the speed divider is 2, and 75 km/h if it is 3. • Compatible with Garmin devices: The actual wheel circumference must be divided by 2 or 3 and set it in Garmin. • Supports the walking mode at 5-6 km/h. MBevo doesn’t divide the speed under 6 km/h, therefore the motor will keep walking speed, bike will not run away. • Works in all type of assistance mode, eco, trail, turbo too, with any percent value. • Simple, reliable electronical device, it doesn’t fail and it is independent from engine firmware version • Can be installed easy, no need to disassemble the crank arm, just unscrew the 4 screws, and plug it. —1— Edition: A
• Programmable, there are 5 modes of operation from which you can choose and preset: 1. speed limit is the factory setting, tuning is off 2. speed limit is 50 km/h, tuning is always on (factory setting of MBevo) 3. speed limit is 50 km/h and tuning is on if the wheel magnet over the sensor when you turn on the bike 4. speed limit is 75 km/h, tuning is always on 5. speed limit is 75 km/h and tuning is on if the wheel magnet is over the sensor when you turn on the bike • Works well in both "walking" and normal modes, even if the wheel circumference value set in the engine is not real, only the speed limits will be a few km/h higher and the actual wheel circumference value must be entered in BLEvo. (Many people set it to the minimum of 2000 mm in the service so that, for example, if a 27.5" wheel is placed on the bike, do not disable it at 23 km/h). • Cheaper than other electronical tuning and it has support and help. Compatible racing ebikes: • Specialized Levo FSR: all 2018/2019/2020/2021 • Specialized Kenevo: 2018 only the Expert /2019 only the Expert /2020 all (Kenevo Expert, Kenevo Comp) /2021 all (Kenevo Expert, Kenevo Comp) • Specialized Levo Hardtail Comp: 2019-2021 —2— Edition: A
Compatible motor firmwares: • Brose Drive-S (Specialized 1.3) up to V 7.1.1 • Brose Drive-S Mag (Specialized 2.1) up to V 7.4.1 Compatible displays: • Smartphone with BLEvo application • Garmin Edge®, Forerunner®, fēnix® 5 The operation of the MBevo tuning is guaranteed for specified ebike models and for that firmware versions which released up to the date of purchase of the tuning itself. If the ebike is subsequently updated with firmware for which the MBevo tuning has not been designed, you may find that your bike will fail, will get disabled, or just the tuning will not work. The manufacturer and distributor of this ebike tuning declines any responsibility for any anomalies caused by the anti-tuning defenses that the engine manufacturers could activate in the future by new firmware/engine/bike. Before updating your engine, it is necessary to check the compatibility with your MBevo tuning, so in this case, contact us. —3— Edition: A
Installation In order to determine the current speed, the e-bike has a sensor that uses a magnet to receive impulses per wheel revolution. This sensor is located on the left side at the end of rear fork and the magnet is on the brake disc of the rear wheel. The MBevo must be inserted between the motor and the speed sensor. You perform the installation indoors, where the floor is smooth and clean and empty, as smaller parts can easily fall off and be lost. Do not mount on grassy, sandy ground! The bike should be cleaned and dried before you begin the installation! Installation using a Turbo Levo FSR is shown below: Here you can find one Installation video to these instructions: Scan QR! https://youtu.be/WZHAPdLeEyM —4— Edition: A
1. Step: Disassembly • Protect the frame with adhesive tape. • Unplug the battery. • Unscrew the left side cover of the engine house Battery Screws connector Fig. 1 Battery connector and screws of left side cover • Turn down the left side of the motor house • First, turn a little to the left and then a little to the right to release the upper ears, then semicircle to the left. • The little female connectors of MBevo are rectangular with different side widths when viewed from the front. Fig. 6 Little female connectors of MBevo • Connect the MBevo little female connectors to the original male Speed sensor connector. Rotate the small connectors as they become narrower together. The polarity doesn't matter Fig. 7 Little female connectors of MBevo and original male Speed sensor connector of e-bike • Bring the shrink tube over connection Fig. 8 Connected MBevo little connectors and original Speed sensor connector and the shrink tube Shrink tube —7— Edition: A
• Shrink the shrink tube at connection by a heat gun, a hair dryer, or a lighter, etc. Squeeze the end of the heat shrink tube while it is still hot to fuse with the wires. This prevents water and mud from entering the connection. Fig. 9 Squeezing the end of the heat shrink tube • Connect the MBevo male connector manually to the socket on the engine. Do not use pliers, or if you do, gently grasp it, the plug is fragile! Pay attention to the position of their inner shape! 3. Step: Test • Plug in the battery, turn on the Levo ebike, and smartphone with BLEvo app, then start a ride on BLEvo, turn the rear wheel slowly, accelerating and you can see the correct speed as usual under 5 km/h. This is the walking speed range and the tuning is not active. Speed Fig. 12 BLEvo and the correct speed as usual under 5 km/h • Accelerate the rear wheel and you can see that speed will be half above 5-6 km/h. This is the cycling speed range and the tuning is active. Fig. 13 BLEvo and the Speed divided by 2, tuning is active • In order for BLEvo to display the correct cycling speed, the multiplier must be set in the BLEvo application to multiply by 2 the divided speed —9— Edition: A
• Set the speed multiplier to 2x on the "Bike Setup" page in the BLEvo Speed multiplier Fig. 12 BLEvo and the speed multiplier is 2 • Get back to the ride display and spin the wheel again. You can see that the cycling speed is already correct Bike speed GPS speed Fig. 13 BLEvo and the correct speed, tuning is active • You may notice that below 6 km/h the displayed speed will be double on BLEvo, but this is not important as such a low speed only occurs in walking mode. When you ride a bike and start, your speed will immediately be higher than 5km/h, so you will always see the correct value — 10 — Edition: A
4. Step: Assembly • Arrange the cables in the house • Turn back the motor cover to the right position: • Turn it to right and hook the right edge tab first • then turn it left and hook in the tabs on the left as well Fig. 14 Turn back the motor cover • Fit the cover to the housing • Screw the cover back on the housing. Tighten the bolts gently because we can easily break the thread! Fig. 15 Screw the cover back on the housing Congratulations, the installation is complete! — 11 — Edition: A
Operating modes You can choose between the following operating modes: 1. Tuning permanently deactivated, speed limit is 25 km/h → BLEvo multiplier must be 1x 2. Tuning according to switch-on condition, speed limit is 50 km/h → BLEvo multiplier must be 2x 3. Tuning permanently activated, speed limit is 50 km/h → BLEvo multiplier must be 2x (this is the factory setting of MBevo) 4. Tuning according to switch-on condition, speed limit is 75 km/h → BLEvo multiplier must be 3x 5. Tuning permanently activated, speed limit is 75 km/h → BLEvo multiplier must be 3x Tuning permanently deactivated No lifting of the speed limit. Support up to 25km/h, The actual speed driven corresponds to the displayed speed, no division, therefore the BLEvo speed multiplier must be 1x on the "Bike Setup" page in the BLEvo. Tuning permanently activated In these operating modes, the speed limit is permanently lifted to 50 km/h or 75 km/h. The actual speed is divided by 2 or 3 then it is multiplied back by BLEvo for displaying real speed. Tuning according to the switch-on condition To activate the tuning in case of these modes, the magnet must be in front of the sensor for at least 4 seconds before the system starts. Otherwise the tuning is deactivated for the duration of this journey. After starting the system with the magnet in front of the sensor, the speed limit is lifted to 50 km/h or 75 km/h until the system is turned off. The actual speed is divided by 2 or 3 then it is multiplied back by BLEvo for displaying real speed. — 12 — Ausgabe: A
Reprogramming the operation mode It is optional. The factory setting of MBevo is speed limit = 50 km/h and tuning is always on. But you can choose from operation modes and preset it. Reprogramming is possible by moving the wheel magnet in front of the sensor. The wheel magnet is on the rear brake disc. The sensor is at the end of the rear fork. It is enough to move the wheel a quarter turn forward and back. To always find the magnet back to the sensor, hold the wheel at the base of the rear fork when the magnet is in front of the sensor. So when we turn a quarter turn, we turn it back until we have our hand on the fork again. A speed display is required for reprogramming. e.g. BLEvo app, Garmin device or maybe Mission Controll app. Follow the sequence below to enter the programming function: • Turn on the ebike • Start the BLEvo app on the phone, connect to the bike • On BLEvo app select the „Bike Setup” menuitem and set the „Speed x” parameter to 1.0 and set the „Real wheel” parameter to 2100 mm, as this is the smallest value that can be entered in the blevo app. • Select the „Bike Monitor” menuitem on the BLEvo app and Start a ride • Turn off the ebike — 13 — Ausgabe: A
• Rotate the rear wheel so that the magnet on the brake disc is above the sensor at the end of the fork • Wait 15-20 seconds before turning ebike back on. • Turn on the ebike • After beep sound of turning on wait until the assistance level is shown on BLEvo display. This time is approx. 3.5 sec. • When the assistance level is shown on BLEvo display move the magnet away from the sensor by turning the wheel a quarter turn • But as soon as you turn it, immediately turn the magnet back over the sensor from where you started the turning first — 14 — Ausgabe: A
• Wait approx. 3 sec and move the magnet away from the sensor again by turning the wheel a quarter turn • A speed value will be shown. If the actual operation mode setting is the factory setting this speed value is 7…8 km/h. • Each operating mode has a speed value that you can select to activate the mode: 1. Permanently deactivated, speed limit is 25 → 21…23 km/h 2.Switch-on condition, speed limit is 50 → 10...12 km/h 3.Permanently activated, speed limit is 50 → 7...8 km/h 4.Switch-on condition, speed limit is 75 → 5...6 km/h 5.Permanently activated, speed limit is 75 → 4...5 km/h These speed values may differ by 1..2 km/h on your bike, these are for information only! • To switch to another mode, the magnet must be turned to front of the sensor. • Turn the magnet back over the sensor from where you started the turning first • 5…6 km/h speed value will be shown (in case of factory setting) • If you want the „4. Switch-on condition, speed limit is 75” mode wait here more than 3 sec., until 0.0 km/h will be shown and the settings will be saved. • If you want to switch to next mode move the magnet away from the sensor again by turning the wheel a quarter turn within 3 seconds. (See next page!) — 15 — Ausgabe: A
• Within 3 seconds move the magnet away from the sensor again by turning the wheel a quarter turn and turn the magnet back over the sensor • 4...5 km/h speed value will be shown • If you want the „5. Permanently activated, speed limit is 75” mode wait here until 0.0 km/h will be shown and the settings will be saved. • Within 3 seconds move the magnet away from the sensor again by turning the wheel a quarter turn and turn the magnet back over the sensor • 21…23 km/h speed value will be shown • If you want the „1. Permanently deactivated, speed limit is 25” mode wait here until 0.0 km/h will be shown and the settings will be saved. • Within 3 seconds move the magnet away from the sensor again by turning the wheel a quarter turn and turn the magnet back over the sensor • 10...12 km/h speed value will be shown • If you want the „2. Switch-on condition, speed limit is 50” mode wait here until 0.0 km/h will be shown and the settings will be saved. • Within 3 seconds move the magnet away from the sensor again by turning the wheel a quarter turn and turn the magnet back over the sensor • 7…8 km/h speed value will be shown again • If you want the „3. Permanently activated, speed limit is 50” mode wait here until 0.0 km/h will be shown and the settings will be saved. • Turn off the ebike then turn on. • On BLEvo app select the „Bike Setup” menuitem and set the „Speed x” parameter to 2.0 in case of 50 km/h limit or 3.0 in case of 75 km/h and set back the „Real wheel” parameter to real wheel circumference of your ebike. — 16 — Ausgabe: A
