1. SMARTPACKTM Introduction 1.1 SMARTPACKTM Concept SMARTPACK™ is a new axial fan concept designed to comply with the complex requirements of indus- trial and commercial ventilation, refrigeration and heat exchange applications. SMARTPACK™ is available in 1250mm now. 560 mm 630 mm 710 mm 800 mm 900 mm 1250 mm SMARTPACK™ 900mm, 800mm, 710mm, 630mm and 560mm coming soon. Operates in the temperature range of -40°c to +80°c. It is available with both AC and EC motor technology: • AC to meet tough industrial requirements and worldwide availability. This also enables connecting to your preferred motor brand. • EC to achieve and maintain the highest possible efficiency grades within a wide operating range. SMARTPACK™ is designed to operate in a horizontal or vertical position in four basic configurations below. SMARTPACK™ can be upgraded from the base con- figuration. A wide range of ancillary components such as guide vanes and diffusers will be available to boost the performance further and to tweak to special requirements. Every device connected to a SMARTPACKTM device which is not purchased from CAUTION E-FLOW has to be verified by E-FLOW; otherwise all risks are borne by the installer. SAFETY REGULATIONS AND NOTES Please read these operating instructions carefully before starting to work with the SMARTPACKTM device. SMART- PACKTM device” within this document denotes any SMARTPACKTM fan pack or SMARTPACKTM accessories purchased from E-FLOW. Purchaser and / or Installer within this document denotes any person to whom E-Flow has agreed to supply SMARTPACKTM devices and whose details are set out in a written quotation issued by E-Flow in relation to these SMARTPACKTM devices. Observe the following warnings to prevent malfunctions or physical damage to both property and people. These operating instructions are to be regarded as part of this SMARTPACKTM device. If the SMARTPACKTM device is sold or transferred, the operating instructions must accompany it. These operating instructions may be duplicated and forwarded for information about potential dangers and their prevention. The latest Operation Instructions will accompany products sold and will be made available on: http://www.eflowtec.com/Products/OperatingInstructions Detailed Operating Instructions concerning the AC / EC motor or EC Controller may be found on respective AC / EC motor or EC Controller manufacturer web pages. 2.1 Levels of hazard warnings These operating instructions use the following hazard levels to indicate potentially hazardous situations and important safety regulations: Used when SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH may result from misuse or failure to follow WARNING specific instructions. Used when minor or moderate injury or product / equipment damage may result CAUTION from misuse or failure to follow specific instructions. NOTE Indicates information considered important, but not hazard-related. It is the responsibility of all personnel involved in installation, operation and maintenance of the SMARTPACKTM device to fully understand the Warning and Caution procedures by which hazards are to be avoided. 2.2 Staff qualification The SMARTPACKTM device may be transported, unpacked, installed, operated, maintained and otherwise used by qualified, trained and authorised technical staff. Only properly approved specialists by applicable law are permitted to install the SMARTPACKTM device, to carry out a test run and to perform work on the electrical installation. The Installer has to follow all applicable local electrical and safety codes, as well as the national codes such as Electrical code (NEC); the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), Canadian Electric Code (CEC), etc. 2.3 Basic safety rules This SMARTPACKTM device is solely intended as a built-in component. Any other usage above and beyond this does not conform to the intended purpose and constitutes misuse of the SMARTPACKTM device. Any safety hazards stemming from the SMARTPACKTM device must be re-evaluated once it is installed within final application. Customer equipment must be capable of withstanding the mechanical and thermal stresses that can arise from this SMARTPACKTM device. The rotation of the propeller is critical. It must be free to rotate without striking or rubbing any stationary objects. The motor must be securely and adequately grounded. Do not spin the fan propeller faster than the maximum cataloged fan RPM. Adjustments to the fan speed signifi- cantly affects the motor load. If the fan RPM is changed, the motor current should be checked to make sure it is not exceeding the motor nameplate amps. Do not allow the power cable to kink or come in contact with oil, grease, hot surfaces or chemicals. Verify that the power source is compatible with the SMARTPACKTM device. Never remove the protection grid while the fan is running. 2.4 Electrical voltage Check the electrical equipment of the SMARTPACKTM device at regular intervals. Replace loose connections and defective cables immediately. Electrical load on the device WARNING Risk of electric shock • Stand on a rubber mat if you are working on an electrical- ly-charged device. Terminals and connections have voltage even when the SMARTPACKTM device is shut off Electric shock • Wait five minutes after disconnecting the voltage at all poles before opening the device. In the event of failure, there is electric voltage at the rotor and impeller CAUTION The rotor and impeller are base- insulated. • Do not touch the rotor and impeller once they are installed. If the control voltage is applied or a speed set point is stored, the motor will restart automatically, e.g. after a mains failure. Risk of injury • Keep out of the SMARTPACKTM device hazard zone. • When working on the SMARTPACKTM device, switch off the mains power and ensure that it cannot be switched back on. • Wait until the impeller stops. • After working on the SMARTPACKTM device, remove any tools used or other objects from the SMARTPACKTM device. 2.5 Safety and protective functions Protective device missing and protective device not functioning WARNING Without a protective device there is a risk of serious injury, for instance if the hands reach or are sucked into the SMARTPACKTM device during operation. Operate the SMARTPACKTM device only with a fixed protective device and guard grille. The fixed protective device must be able to withstand the kinetic energy of a fan blade that becomes detached at maximum speed. There must not be any gaps into which it is possible to reach with fingers, for example. As the Installer, you are responsible for following all applicable local safety codes (such ISO13857 or OSHA 1910.212). The SMARTPACKTM devices are built-in components. As the operator, you are responsible for ensuring that the SMARTPACKTM devices are adequately secured. Stop the SMARTPACKTM device immediately if a protective device is found to be missing or ineffective. Locked-rotor protection EC solution – Thermal protection may be covered electronically. Controllers are in compliance with UL61800, how- ever, assesment of the thermal protection function shall be verified by the final equipment manufacturer. AC solution – In general, the standard AC motors used by SMARTPACKTM are in compliance with UL1004-1 and UL1004-3. See specific Technical documentation or contact your E-Flow representative. 2.6 Mechanical movement Rotating device WARNING • Body parts that come into contact with the rotor and impeller can be injured. • Secure the SMARTPACKTM device against accidental contact. • Before working on the SMARTPACKTM device, wait until all parts have come to a standstill. • Long hair, dangling items of clothing, jewellery and similar items can become entangled and be pulled into the SMARTPACKTM device. Risk of injury. • Do not wear any loose-fitting or dangling clothing or jewellery while working on rotating parts. • Protect long hair with a cap. Flying parts • Missing safety devices may cause balancing weights or broken fan blades to be ejected at high speeds, causing bodily harm. • Take appropriate safety measures. 2.7 Emission Depending on the installation and operating conditions, a sound pressure level WARNING greater than 70 dB(A) may arise. • Danger of noise-induced hearing loss • Take appropriate technical safety measures. • Protect operating personnel with appropriate safety equipment, e.g. hearing protection. • Also observe the requirements of local agencies. 2.8 Hot surface High temperature at the electronics housing CAUTION Risk of burns. Ensure sufficient contact protection. Possible High temperature at the fan pack housing from direct sun • Risk of burns • Ensure sufficient contact protection. 2.9 Transport WARNING Transport of fan • Injuries from slipping or falling. • Only transport SMARTPACKTM devices in their original packaging. • The SMARTPACKTM devices must always be transported and handled so that they cannot tip over. • Transport SMARTPACKTM devices “lying flat”, in other words with the axis vertical and “„accessories““ side in the upper position. • Secure the SMARTPACKTM devices with a lashing strap, for example, so that nothing slips or tips over; this is especially important if stacking multiple fans. • Also, take into consideration potential wind forces. 3. TECHNICAL DATA 3.1 Product Drawing Please see specific product Drawing. 3.2 Nominal data Please see specific product Technical documentation and Drawing available on Smartperformer (selection soft- ware). 3.3 Data in accordance with ecodesign regulation EU 327/2011 and Machinery Directive EC 2006/42 Machinery Directive EC 2006/42 EC declaration of incorporation will be made available with products sold. Ecodesign regulation EU 327/2011 EC DECLARATION OF CONFORMITY in accordance with EN ISO 17050-1:2004 will be made available with products sold. 3.4 Technical features SMARTPACKTM device complying with CE. For UL and CSA conformity please see Technical documentation or contact your E-Flow representative. For specific approvals see the technical documentation or contact your E-Flow representative. WARNING • It is important that the Purchaser of the SMARTPACKTM deviceensures that the oper- ational limits of the SMARTPACKTM devicefit the operating conditions as listed within Application Report approved by E-Flowincluding, but not limited to the operational air temperature, air borne contaminents and unit orientation. • The surface appearance of the SMARTPACKTM device conform to the generally applicable industrial standard. The surface appearance may vary during the production period. • Strength, dimensional stability and dimensional accuracy are not affected by this. • The colour pigments of the paints used react perceptibly to UV light over the course of time. This, however, does not have any affect on the technical properties of the SMARTPACKTM device. To prevent the formation of patches and fading, the product should be protected against UV radiation. • Changes in colour are not a reason for complaint and are not covered by the Warranty. • If the SMARTPACKTM device is to be installed in regions requiring Seismic or High Wind design, or within any other demanding conditions, please contact your E-Flow representative. 4. CONNECTION AND START-UP 4.1 Receiving The signing of a delivery note is deemed to be acceptance of the SMARTPACKTM device with regard to the arrival and number of items delivered. The Purchaser shall, within two (2) days of the arrival of each delivery of a SMART- PACKTM device and in any event prior to using the SMARTPACKTM device give written notice of rejection to E-Flow on account of any defect which is apparent on reasonable inspection, and by reason of which it is believed that the SMARTPACKTM device does not comply with the Warranty. In the absence of any such notice within two (2) days of the arrival of the delivery and in any event prior to using the SMARTPACKTM device, the SMARTPACKTM device shall conclusively be presumed to comply with the Warranty and, accordingly, The Purchaser shall be deemed to have accepted the delivery of the SMARTPACKTM device in question and E-Flow shall have no liability to the Purchaser with respect to that delivery (except in relation to liability for any latent defects). 4.2 Storage Storing the SMARTPACKTM devices WARNING Injuries from slipping or falling. • The SMARTPACKTM device must always be stored and handled such that they cannot tip over. • Store the SMARTPACKTM device “lying flat”, in other words with the axis vertical and “„accessories““ side in the upper position. • Secure the SMARTPACKTM device with a lashing strap, for example, so that nothing slips or tips over; this is espe- cially important if stacking multiple SMARTPACKTM device. • Also take into consideration potential wind forces. • Store the SMARTPACKTM device in the original packaging in a clean, dry and weatherproof place, free from vibra- tions. • Protect the SMARTPACKTM device against environmental effects and dirt until the final installation. • We recommend storing the SMARTPACKTM device for no longer than one year for trouble-free operation and longest possible service life. • Even SMARTPACKTM devices explicitly intended for outdoor use are to be stored as described prior to commissioning. The Purchaser assumes responsibility of the SMARTPACKTM device while in storage. E-Flow will not be responsible for damage during storage. These suggestions are provided solely as a convenience to the user. 4.2.1 Indoor storage • The ideal environment for the storage of SMARTPACKTM device is indoors, above ground, in a low humidity atmos- phere, which is sealed to prevent the entry of blowing dust, rain or snow. Wide temperature swings may cause condensation and “sweating” of metal parts. • Remove any accumulation of dirt, water, ice or snow and wipe dry before moving to an indoor storage site. To avoid the “sweating” of metal parts allow cold parts to reach room temperature. • The SMARTPACKTM device sshould be stored on the wooden pallet that was ued for delivery. • Aisles between pallets and along all the walls should be provided to permit air circulation and space for inspection E Flow Technologies Europe s.r.o., Průmyslová 200, Zábědov, 504 01 Nový Bydžov, CZECH REPUBLIC 9 E: info@eflowtec.com I W: eflowtec.com
4.2.2 Outdoor storage • SMARTPACKTM devices designed for outdoor applications may be stored outdoors, if absolutely necessary. • Roads or aisles for mobile cranes and hauling equipment are needed. • The SMARTPACKTM device should be placed on a level surface to prevent water from leaking into the SMART- PACKTM devices. The SMARTPACKTM device should be elevated on the wooden pallet that was ued for deliveryas received or an adequate number of wooden blocks so that it is above water and snow levels, and has enough blocking to prevent it from settling into soft ground. Locate parts far enough apart to permit air circulation, sunlight and space for periodic inspection. To minimize water accumulation, place all SMARTPACKTM devices on blocking supports so that rain water will run off. • Do not cover SMARTPACKTM devices with plastic film or tarpaulin as these cause condensation of moisture from the air passing through heating and cooling cycles. • Fan propellers should be blocked to prevent spinning caused by strong winds. 4.3 Inspection and maintenance during storage While in storage, inspect SMARTPACKTM devices once per month. Keep a record of inspection and maintenance performed. If moisture or dirt accumulation is found, the source should be located and eliminated. At each inspection, rotate the impeller by hand ten to fifteen revolutions to distribute lubricant on the motor. A Mainte- nance Check Sheet is provided in Attachment I. 4.4 Removing from storage As SMARTPACKTM devices are removed from storage to be installed in their final location, they should be protected and maintained in a similar fashion until the fan equipment goes into operation. 4.5 Connecting the mechanical system • Remove skid, crates, and packing materials carefully. • Move the SMARTPACKTM device to the final mounting position. • Check the device for any damages. Damaged devices must no longer be installed! • The housing has attached eyes that are to be used for manoeuvering by a crane. • Do not use any other structural parts for trans- porting the device (such as blades, brackets, etc.). • Keep the SMARTPACKTM device fixed in position at the installation location until all attachment screws have been tightened. • Mount the fan housing without any tension. • Secure the screws properly for a base and flange mounting. You can obtain additional mounting data from the product Drawing if necessary. Cutting and crushing hazard when removing the device from the packaging CAUTION Blades can be bent • Carefully remove the SMARTPACKTM device from its packaging, only touching the wall ring. Make sure to avoid any shock. • Wear safety shoes and cut-resistant safety gloves. A SMARTPACKTM device weighs more than 25 kg! Heavy load when removing the device! Risk of physical injury, such as back injuries • Use suitable hoisting equipment to remove the SMARTPACKTM device from the packaging. 4.6 Connecting the electrical system • Make sure that the power is off (all phases). WARNING • Remove the terminal box and connect the lines in accordance with local or nation- al safety or electrical codes. • Secure it from being switched on again. • Check the correct fit of the connection lines. • Route the connecting cables in the terminal box so that the terminal box cover closes without resistance. • Screw the terminal box cover closed again. • Make sure that the terminal box is correctly closed and sealed and that all screws and screwed cable glands are properly tightened. 4.7 Switching on the SMARTPACKTM device The SMARTPACKTM device is not to be switched on until it has been installed properly and WARNING in accordance with its intended use, including the required protective devices and pro- fessional electrical connection following all local or national safety or electrical codes. Hot motor and controller housing WARNING • Fire hazard • Ensure that no combustible or flammable materials are located close to the fan. Inspect the device for visible external damage and the proper function of the protective features before switching it on. NOTE Damage to SMARTPACKTM devices by vibrations Bearing damage, reduced service life • The SMARTPACKTM devices must operate free of vibrations throughout its speed control range. • Strong vibrations can result from improper handling, imbalance resulting from damage during transport, or component-induced or structural resonances. • When putting the SMARTPACKTM device into service, determine the speed ranges with excessive vibration levels and also any resonance frequencies that may be present. • When regulating the speed, pass through resonance ranges as quickly as possible or find another remedy. Op- eration at excessive vibration levels can lead to premature failure. 4.8 Switching off the SMARTPACKTM device • Switching off the SMARTPACKTM device during operation: WARNING • Switch off the SMARTPACKTM device via the control input. • Do not switch the motor (e.g. in cyclic operation) on and off via the power supply. • Switching off the SMARTPACKTM device for maintenance work: • Switch off the SMARTPACKTM device via the control input and secure against being switched back on. • Disconnect the SMARTPACKTM device from the supply voltage. • Wait five minutes after disconnecting the voltage at all poles before opening the SMARTPACKTM device. • When disconnecting, be sure to disconnect the earth wire connection last. 5. MAINTENANCE, MALFUNCTIONS, POSSIBLE CAUSES AND REMEDIES • Check all nuts, bolts and setscrews after one week of operation and tighten if nec- CAUTION essary. For specific torques please see section 4.5. • Once the fan has been put into operation, a periodic maintenance program should be set up to preserve the reliability and performance of the fan. The recommended maintanance period is a maximum of 6 months. The End-user shall be informed regarding maintenance requirements in the relevant SMARTPACKTM device instalation and maintenance documents. • A Maintenance Check Sheet is provided in Attachment I. • After working on the SMARTPACKTM device, remove any tools used or other objects from the device. • Do not perform any repairs on your SMARTPACKTM device. Contact your E-Flow representative if any repairs are needed. • If the SMARTPACKTM device remains out of use for over four months, we recommend switching the device on for at least four hours at full speed to allow any condensate to evaporate and to move the bearings; only after that should it start to be used again. • For a Troubleshooting List please see Attachment II. 6. DISPOSAL The following section contains recommendations for ecological disposal of the SMARTPACKTM device and its com- ponents. 6.1 Country-specific legal requirements NOTE Country-specific legal requirements Always observe the applicable country-specific legal regulations with regard to the disposal of products or waste occurring in the various phases of the life cycle. The corresponding disposal standards are also to be heeded. 6.2 Disassembly • Disassembly of the SMARTPACKTM device must be performed or supervised by qualified personnel with the ap- propriate technical knowledge. • The SMARTPACKTM device is to be disassembled into suitable components for disposal, employing standard pro- cedures for motors. Heavy parts of the product may drop off. Some of the SMARTPACKTM device WARNING components are heavy. These components could drop off during disassembly. • This can result in fatal or serious injury and material damage. • Secure components before unfastening to stop them falling. 6.3 Disposal of components The SMARTPACKTM devices are mostly made of steel, copper, aluminium and plastic. Metallic materials are generally considered to be fully recyclable. Separate the components for recycling into the following categories: • Steel and iron • Aluminium • Non-ferrous metal, e.g. motor windings • Plastics, particularly with brominated flame retardants, in accordance with their marking • Insulating materials • Cables and wires • Electronic scrap, e.g. circuit boards Electrical insulating materials on the product, in cables and wires, are made of similar materials and are therefore to be treated in the same manner. The materials concerned are as follows: • Miscellaneous insulators used in the terminal box • Power lines • Cables for internal wiring • Electrolytic capacitors Dispose of electronic components, employing the proper procedures for electronic scrap. If needed please check specific instructions concerning disposal details related to used motors or control unit on respective AC / EC motor or EC Controller manufacturer web pages. 7. Maintenance check sheet SMARTPACKTM Maintenance Check List SMARTPACKTM Type: Maintenance Date: Serial Number: Work performed by: Date of installation: Company: WARNING • Switch off the SMARTPACK device via the control input and secure against being TM switched back on. • Disconnect the SMARTPACKTM device from the supply voltage. • When disconnecting, be sure to disconnect the earth wire connection last. • Wait at least 5 minutes when maintaining a SMARTPACKTM device powered by an EC motor. • After working on the SMARTPACKTM device, remove any tools used or other objects from the device. In the event of any damages / maintenance findings SMARTPACKTM devices shall not be put back into the service again until all issues are fixed. If necessary contact your E-Flow representative. Inspect all bolts, fixings and electrical terminals for security. Check motor for undue wear, signs of overheating and apply winding insulation test*. Check the condition of cables and their fixation / routing. Remove all dust and dirt from impellers, be especially careful not to disturb balance weights. Remove all dust and dirt from Control Unit cooling ribs. Rotate the wheel by hand ten to fifteen revolutions to distribute lubricant on the motor – check for smooth rotation (storage maintenance) Generally clean * A winding insulation test shall be performed before commissioning, based on the specific motor´s Operating manual.
