OCA Virtual Time Trial Series Ontario Cycling Association Welcome Welcome to the OCA Virtual Time Trial Series taking place on the FulGaz virtual platform. The winter season can be challenging when it comes to finding motivation to train. While it’s too cold outside for outdoor riding and racing, we wanted to provide a continued sense of community through promoting virtual riding and racing opportunities ranging from club to national level events. In addition to this, the OCA is organizing four of our own Virtual Time Trial Races to allow 2021 members the chance to race real roads and try out a realistic virtual riding and racing platform. From the FulGaz website at www.fulgaz.com: “FulGaz features over 2,000 hours of high-qualify 4k content that’s been hand picked from our amazing contributors featuring many of the best places you’ll ever ride. We believe that when you’re riding inside, only the best ride experience will do. That’s why we’ve dedicated countless hours to perfecting each and every ride on FulGaz and testing it with our team of Ride Engineers. Enjoy realistic and stunning virtual rides anytime on iOS (iPhone and iPad), Apple TV, Android and Windows devices.” Most other virtual platforms provide users with a very digital or video-game like experience. FulGaz provides its users with the experience of riding real roads, with video and course profiles mapped out by cyclists, for cyclists. When travelling, outdoor rides, and training camps are not a possibility, you can experience riding roads and taking in scenery from around the world in the comfort and safety of your own home. OCA Virtual Time Trial Series Ontario Cycling Association Connecting with FulGaz If you don’t already have a FulGaz account, here’s what you will need for this race: TRAINER You can do this race on practically any indoor trainer, but it’s recommended to use a smart trainer or power meter that can talk to your computer and relay wattage data. Even if you don’t have one of those, a regular magnetic or fluid trainer will work, however you will need a Bluetooth or Ant+ speed sensor for your bike and an ANT+ stick for your computer to pick up the data. If you have a heartrate monitor and cadence sensor, you’re welcome to use it to show how hard you are working. FULGAZ To download the software needed, click on Getting started with FulGaz | FulGaz, download the software (OS specific) and register for the service. There is typically a limited two-week free trial, however we have partnered with Cycling Canada to obtain an extended trial period of 4 weeks, stay tuned for the promo code which is set to rollout about 10 days before out first event. This discount code will allow you to register for any number of rides and races on the platform, including the OCA Virtual TT Series. FULGAZ PRE-RIDE In order to get the full experience out of using FulGaz, it is highly recommended to download the app in advance and practice pre-riding some of the courses. Upon setting yourself up on the FulGaz app, you can then find and ride routes such as those within our race calendar. For instance, search for “Gatineau Park” and pre- ride the course for our first Time Trial taking place on January 30th. If you are unable to download the FulGaz application but want to checkout a preview of the courses, you can also search for the courses listed in order by name by visiting The Rides | FulGaz.
