WELCOME RUNNERS With all the choices out there, we are so glad you chose to run with us! Wineglass weekend is more than just a race weekend - it is a community event, where everyone comes together for you! We have an incredible team of over 2,500 dedicated volunteers, partners, and sponsors to ensure that you have a successful and enjoyable weekend experience. This year we have not only one but two special guests. We are excited to welcome back our friend and running icon, Bart Yasso. Bart’s familiar voice will greet you as he calls out your name as you approach the inish line. Joining Bart this weekend as our special guest is Meb Ke lezighi, widely acclaimed as one of the greatest runners of all time. A four-time Olympic marathoner, Meb is the only athlete to win the New York City Marathon, the Boston Marathon, and an Olympic medal. Meb will be joining us at the Corelle 5K, the Expo, the Pasta Dinner at the Radisson and pacing the half marathon. We are honored to have both Bart and Meb with us this year! Last but not least, we have added two new challenges this year known as the Riesling Challenge (8K, 5K, 26.2) or the Pinot Challenge (8K, 5K, 13.1). Finishers will receive a commemorative medal for the completion of the three races in the series. Whether you are here to run the Corelle 5K, the Guthrie Wineglass Marathon, or the Half Marathon, presented by Wegmans, we wish you much success! We hope you can take advantage of the many exciting experiences Corning and the Finger Lakes Region has to offer. Have a great weekend! Wineglass Race Director, Sheila W. A WORD FROM OUR TITLE SPONSOR Welcome to Corning and congratulations. Whether you’ve been running marathons for years or you are participating in your irst 5K this weekend, you set a goal and you are here to achieve it. Be proud of your commitment and perseverance. Guthrie is honored to be the title sponsor for the Wineglass Marathon because we are committed to working with the communities we serve to help each person attain optimal, life-long health and well-being. The Wineglass Weekend offers the opportunity for each of us to push ourselves to be more physically and mentally strong. I have been a lifelong athlete, but never a runner until last year when I made a commitment to participate in Wineglass Weekend with my daughter. The training was hard work that required a new type of discipline in my life. I learned how hard I could push myself and the health bene its are self-evident. Running regularly is proven to strengthen the heart and reduce stress. Most important, it offers a feeling of accomplishment. Guthrie team members have encouraged me through my training and you will ind many of them along the Marathon course this weekend, pushing you forward and cheering your accomplishments, as well. Thank you for inspiring us and our community! Have a great race, Dr. Joseph Scopelliti President and CEO, Guthrie PAGE 04 WINEGLASSMARATHON.COM

Although he might not be chasing Olympic medals these days, Meb Ke lezighi stays connected to the world of running and maintains an unwavering commitment to helping others go the distance in their own lives — physically, professionally, personally and spiritually. The only athlete in history to win the New York Marathon, the Boston Marathon, and an Olympic Medal, Meb hadn't even heard of the Olympics until he was a teenager. A refugee from war-torn East Africa (and now a proud and patriotic American), Meb's resilience, determination, and faith led him to prevail following some of life's most challenging and heart-breaking circumstances. Meb is a graduate of the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and his records include four NCAA championships, 23 National Championships, and a place on four United States Olympic teams. By serving as a role model and source of inspiration, audiences worldwide are learning to Run to Overcome, no matter what the odds or challenges they face in their everyday lives. In Meb's most recent book, 26 Marathons, the four-time Olympic marathoner shares his lessons on life, family, faith, and running through a re lection on each of the 26 marathons he's run in his storied career. AT THE FINISH LINE WELCOME BACK BART YASSO Bart Yasso - the now-retired Runner's World Magazine's Chief Running Of icer—dubbed the "Mayor of Running," cheers on every runner across every inish line of every marathon. In addition to his induction into the Running USA Hall of Champions, Bart was recently inducted into the Road Runners Club of America Distance Running Hall of Fame. A longtime friend of the Wineglass, Bart returns to Corning Wineglass Weekend to share his endless energy, passion, and support with runners. Bart says, "For me, what I love about the Wineglass weekend is meeting so many runners that share their running journey. When the race starts every runner follows the same path to the inish line, but every runner has a unique journey to the starting line. So many runners tell me they love the friendly atmosphere in Corning. The course is fast, and the race tends to have great running weather. The population of Corning is around 10,000, and about 10,000 runners are in the town race weekend. Very rare when the size of race is the same as the host city population." SPECTATORS RESPECT THE COURSE - Stay clear of course boundaries. This means don't cross the course. Stay on the curb or sidewalks to avoid narrowing the streets for runners, and most importantly, listen to law enforcement and volunteers with regard to the best location to stand and cheer. The only bikers allowed on the course are those authorized by Wineglass. Unauthorized bikers will be asked to leave the course. TIMING IS EVERYTHING - Know the runner’s projected pace-per-mile to aid in determining where and when they should reach certain points in the course. Take out the guess work and sign up for Racejoy mobile app text updates through the mobile app. Runners must carry their phones to receive updates. GET NOTICED - It is easier for runners to ind their supporters who hold a sign or banner and are wearing brightly colored clothing. It’s also crucial to know a marathoner's bib number and out it. It's an imperfect science trying to time the convergence of a runner and spectator. If you suspect you've missed each other, move to the next viewing location. USE TECHNOLOGY - Visit the WGM website or download the RacejoyApp to access live results and updated split times. Runners must carry their phones to receive updates. BE SOCIAL - Use #WGM19 on all social postings to add to the WGM digital story. REUNITE WITH RUNNER - Plan to reunite with runners in the family link up area just east of the intersection of Market and Cedar streets. PAGE 18 WINEGLASSMARATHON.COM
