LANDSCAPE UPDATE MR WATER SPROUTS, SUCKERS AND PECANS, OH MY! The first question that needs answering is just what is a Water Sprout? And what is a Sucker? Water Sprouts are what you typically see when a tree is over-pruned and the tree generates many upright shoots on the trunk or large branches. Sissoo trees are very good at generating water sprouts which you have probably noticed before after you have trimmed it. Suckers are similar to Water Sprouts but they grow from the roots or the trunk just below a graft union. So you’re probably wondering what Pecans have to do with Water Sprouts and Suckers? Not a lot in the arboricultural sense but they do in the public perception sense. We have decided to leave the lower branches (what many people refer to as “suckers” or “water sprouts”) on the Pecan trees to help them grow better. Our pecans are the most difficult trees we grow here in Morrison Ranch and we need all the help we can get so we leave on the lower branches to protect the trunk, encourage root growth, and increase trunk caliper. You can think of these temporary branches (they will be removed eventually when the tree is past the juvenile stage) as “training wheels” which help the tree through its younger years. 91783 LC QP Morrison Ranch_Living Mag Better Tomorrows Ad.indd 1 6/2/20 11:49|AM9 mymorrisonranch.org

T he biggest liar gets the listing is a common saying among real estate agents. To gain new listings, agents have an incentive to inflate a home’s value. This is because many sellers think their home is worth more than it actually is ... and with this overly ambitious amount in mind, they want an agent who will validate their price. But the harsh reality is that -- even in a market as hot as ours -- an overpriced listing will tend to languish, and almost always end-up closing at a discounted amount. This is true whether you’re selling a multi-million dollar mansion or a cozy condo. However, armed with an honest listing price, you’ll attract the highest number of qualified buyers, and create the greatest opportunity to sell your home for top dollar. And this why you should always work with a Realtor® who will place YOUR best interests above ‘landing the deal’. When considering an agent to list your home, focus on their track record, reputation, marketing plan and service offerings (and NOT the grandeur of their promises). For over 15 years, Heather Horvath has been serving the best interests of East Valley residents. If you’re ready to move-in, move-out, or move-up, call and chat with Heather today.
