The President’s Report Chilly mornings are not my idea of fun! It’s been a long time since I was in the northern hemisphere and I am not used to these temps., roll on spring time. Sadly we have lost Ian ‘Chippy’ Smallwood, your president of only two years ago, after a miserable fight with his illness. Please show your sup- port to Kath when you see her around. Your committee have already started to organise next year’s events and also the dates for the AGM and presentation night. The way our member- ship is increasing we may need to look at a larger venue for these events in future years, which would be a shame as the golf clubs does a great job for us. Christine De Martin has resigned as she and Michael are moving north. I would like to thank Christine for her input and attitude as part of the committee. Water supply continues to be a problem and the club is investigating vari- ous methods to help the situation, let just hope we get some rain to help. May I be so bold as ask you that if you are visiting any of our sponsors please let them know that you are a Bargara Vet, it will help prove that their sponsorship is a good investment. I, along with several others of the Vets’ committee will be resigning at the end of our year. Please give some consideration to nominating for a place on the committee, your members deserve you to put your hand up. In the meantime stay safe and enjoy yourselves. Bob Philip
The Captain’s Report Playing numbers continue to increase each Tuesday assisted by the influx of the regular southern visitors. The numbers for the WBDVGA Spring Carnival are also very good, however there has been a few cancellations in recent weeks due to the imposed travel restrictions. Closing date for this event is Friday 13th August. We have a very strong and successful Vets Association at Bargara which continues to grow due to the support of you the members and the committee persons who so freely give of their time to ensure the association prospers. This year’s AGM is fast approaching, and I am aware of at least three members of the current match com- mittee who will not be standing for committee positions. If you believe you can con- tribute, please consider putting your name forward for election. Christine De Martin has resigned from the committee as she and husband Michael are leaving Bargara and moving to Yeppoon. Many thanks Christine for your advice and contribution to the Bargara Vets and we wish you and Michael good health and enjoyment for the future. The Micropower system in recent weeks has produced timely and accurate results. Many of the issues in the past were due to poor card printing, cards presented to the scanners without the crosses in the squares and some set-up inconsistencies. We now have developed effective communications with the Micropower techni- cians which has been beneficial. Committee members will attend some training on Monday 2nd and Friday 6th of August. In recent weeks there has been a significant improvement in the way members have completed their cards and presented them to the scanners. This attention to detail is much appreciated by match committee members. Good health and good golfing. Don McKewen

ANOTHER HARD DAY AT THE OFFICE
Husband takes the wife to a disco. There’s a guy on the dance floor break dancing, moonwalking, back flips, the works. The wife turns to her husband and says, “See that guy? 25 years ago he proposed to me and I turned him down” Husband says, “ Looks like he is still celebrating.” A lady put an ad on Facebook “Husband Wanted” Next day she received a hundred replies all saying the same thing; “You can have mine” !!!!

WIDE BAYBURNETT PEST MANAGEMENT PROUD SPONSORS OF APPROACH SHOT ON 13TH HOLE The room was full of pregnant women with their partners. The class was in full swing. The instructor was teaching the women how to breathe and was telling the men how to give the necessary assurance to their partners at this stage of the pregnancy. She said "Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you. Walking is especially beneficial. It strengthens the pelvic muscles and will make delivery that much easier." Just take several stops and stay on a soft surface like grass or a path. She looked at the men in the room, "and Gentlemen, remember -- You're in this together -- It wouldn't hurt you to go walking with her. The room suddenly got very quiet as the men absorbed this information. Then a man at the back of the room slowly raised his hand. "Yes, answered the Instructor. "I was just wondering if it would be all right if she carries a golf bag while we walk?
INSTRUCTIONS TO PLAYERS AND MARKERS FOR SCORECARD COMPLETION. After each hole, the marker should confirm with the player the number of strokes on that hole and enter that gross score on the scorecard. At Bar- gara ensure that the cross entered on the left-hand side of the card is the same as the number recorded on the right-hand side of the card. When the round has ended the marker must certify the hole scores on the scorecard. When the round has ended, the player should carefully check the hole scores entered by the marker. The player must not change the score entered by the marker without the marker’s agreement. Scorecard to be signed by both marker and player. Present the scorecards to the scanner / printer. A set of instructions is on dis- play and clearly outlines the steps to take if there are issues. Promptly return the cards to the committee, after which the player must not change the scorecard. At Bargara we use the Micropower scoring / recording system, if there are issues with the accuracy of the results generated by the system, the com- mittee will make the appropriate corrections in the system. The player will be informed of these corrections. Score cards that are not presented to the committee at the completion of the competition will be treated as a ‘NON-APPROVED SCORE” and handi- capped by the normal method when sent to Golf link. The committee should not have to go searching for scorecards, as it is the players respon- sibility the present their score card. CHANGEOVER ROUTINE There was some confusion a few weeks ago over who has right of way between the early morning players and the mid morning starters. It must be noted that the early starters must be allowed to continue playing through to either the 1st tee or the 10th tee before the mid morning group can start. If there is any confusion the later group must check with the starter to make sure they are cleared to proceed to the tee.

GOLFING RULES Q. Is there any distinction in the Rules in terms of playing off a paved cart path versus , say, a dirt path, or some other softer, potentially less club damaging ma- terial? A. The rules are concerned about paths that have been artificially surfaced— pavement, gravel, potentially even sand or dirt if they were put there by some- one for said purpose. In case you need reminding, as these constitute immovable obstructions you are entitled to free relief, and you can use the original ball or substitute another one. You need not scratch or ding the sole. Contrarily, a dirt path naturally created over time by wear and tear from carts and walkers, for example, isn’t an immovable obstruction unless the committee de- clares it to be one and decides to give free relief from it. ******** Q. You find your ball in the long rough within three minutes. You walk to your bag to select a club … but then you can’t find your ball when you return to play your shot. Do you have another three minutes to search, or do you have to include the time already spent looking? A. This is another reason, on top of sun safety for golfers to wear a hat—it is some- thing to place next to one’s ball when it nestles down in gnarlytown. In essence, you get three minutes per stroke made, not per search, meaning that if it took you two minutes to find your ball before losing it again you only have 60 seconds to find it again. Failure to do so before the clock expires and your ball is now considered lost, and you have to return to the spot of your previous shot, add one penalty stroke and play on. ****** LOCAL RULE—BARE PATCHES All bare dirt patches on the closely mown areas of the fairway, on the fairway being played, are to be treated as GUR. This does not apply to divots repaired or not. It does not apply to a ball lying in a bare patch with some grass underneath it—or if the grass is dead. Grass is grass dead or alive.
A new study found that people who take their coffee black are more likely to exhibit psychopathic traits. AND people who order a quad shot, non-fat, vanilla soy, extra foam, light whip with caramel drizzle are more likely to be their victims. THE LAST LAUGH The theory that beer contains female hormones (hops contain Phytoestrogens) and that by drinking enough beer, men turn into women. To test the theory, 100 men drank 8 pints of beer each within a 1 hour period. It was then observed that 100% of the test subjects; 1. Argued over nothing 2. Refused to apologise when obviously wrong 3. Gained weight 4. Talked excessively without making sense 5. Became overly emotional 6. Couldn’t drive 7. Failed to think rationally No further testing was considered necessary ********** Two Irishmen were standing at the base of a flagpole. A blonde walks by and asked them what they were doing. Paddy replied. ‘We’re supposed to be finding the height of this flagpole, but we don’t have a ladder.’ The blonde took out an adjustable spanner from her bag, loos- ened a few bolts and laid the flagpole down. She got a tape measure out of her pocked, took a few measurements, and an- nounced that it was 18 feet 6 inches. Then she walked off. Mick said to Paddy, ‘Isn’t that just like a blonde! We need the height and she gives us the length.’
