As I near the end of my two-year term as your President, I have had opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made and the professional relationships that have been developed along the way. One of the goals of any leader is to try to leave the organization in better shape at the end of your term and accomplish a few notable achievements that you can look back upon with pride. One of my major initiatives was to focus more of our attention on the well-being and professional development of our members. While we have historically focused a great deal of attention on programs and issues that make our practices succeed at a high level, I felt it was extremely important that we lift each other up as well. To achieve this goal, we have been able to weave into our programming a few keynote speakers that focus on you as a leader and your professional development. I feel strongly about the importance of this work as we cannot represent our practices at a very high level if we do not take care of ourselves at the same time. What makes our State Chapter unique is our focus at a local, grassroots level. As such we are uniquely placed to assist orthopaedic executives and administrators with early career advancement opportunities that will help set the stage for long and successful careers. The Board has had preliminary discussions on creating a leadership development program that can provide a more structured process to identify future leaders and provide them with professional development tools and training that can assist them personally as well as our organization and the practices they represent. The Board is also implementing another program during this meeting that creates a more structured pathway to encourage some of our future leaders to step up and take ownership in the organization. I would encourage any of you that have an interest in getting more involved to speak up and let one of the current Board Members know of your interest. I promise it will be a rewarding experience. We will rely on our next generation of talented and dedicated leaders to take our association to the next level. And as a Past President of the organization it will give me great pride to sit back and watch what you achieve. This year’s Program Committee has put together another excellent agenda that combines this emphasis on professional development and leadership as well as important discussions on the ever-changing landscape of health care delivery and the opportunities and challenges that are before us. The BSOF Annual Conference continues to be regarded as the best state level conference for orthopaedic executives in the nation. It is our willingness to come together and lift each other up which is at the heart of the BSOF experience. This is your annual platform to secure the information and relationships you need to drive excellence in your organization. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your President and I look forward to seeing many of you in Fort Lauderdale. Sincerely, Kevin Joyce President Florida Bones 2016-2018 2
