MUSLIMS MAKING CHANGE | NATIONAL HONORS 6 WHO WE ARE Muslim Advocates is a national civil rights organization working in the courts, in the halls of power and in communities to halt bigotry in its tracks. We ensure that American Muslims have a seat at the table with expert representation so that all Americans may live free from hate and discrimination. We are a big tent organization that recognizes the rich and full diversity of the American Muslim community – all are welcome. WHAT WE DO We litigate and advocate to uphold our country’s promise of equal treatment under the law for all Americans – and we get results. Muslim Advocates takes legal action to challenge discriminatory laws and policies and to hold those who engage in anti-Muslim hate accountable. No matter how big the challenge – from the White House, Congress or the largest corporations in the world 2020 ACCOMPLISHMENTS – we take on anyone trying to violate the rights of Americans. 2020 ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2020 has been a year of challenges. COVID-19 has taken the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans and infected many millions more. The economic toll of the disease has been devastating, too, with at one point over 33 million Americans on unemployment, and with front-line workers being forced to choose between their paychecks and their health. The administration’s mismanagement of the pandemic and desire to sow confusion have imperiled American’s confidence in their democracy. Muslim Advocates, however, has risen to these challenges and accomplished amazing results. We continue to fulfill our mission and have achieved significant victories in protecting freedoms and liberties including the right to worship, to not be discriminated against due to race or religion or to be subjected to bigotry and hate.

We also forced a Kentucky prison to withdraw a policy restricting group prayer. The Muslim Ban • We led the coalition of groups supporting the NO BAN 2020 ACCOMPLISHMENTS Act, a historic Muslim civil rights bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives this year that would end the Muslim Ban and prevent future presidents from enacting similar bans. • We supported Muslim Ban victim Ismail Alghazali’s attendance at the State of the Union address as the guest of Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA). • We spoke out, alongside other Black and African organizations, against President Trump’s executive order expanding the Muslim Ban to include several additional African and Asian nations. • We sued the Trump administration for refusing to hand over critical documents that could shed light on the expanded Muslim and African Ban. • We provided guidance for Americans who may be targeted by the Trump administration for denaturalization. • We convened a historic meeting between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and a group of Muslim community leaders and public officials.

We called for the removal of an anti-Muslim bigot who was appointed as a religious freedom adviser at USAID. • We called out New York Times columnist Paul Krugman for erasing the rampant bigotry experienced by American Muslims after 9/11. • We criticized MSNBC host Joy Reid for spreading the false stereotype that Muslim leaders preach violence. • We pressured then-presidential candidate and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg to address his role overseeing the NYPD’s sweeping anti-Muslim surveillance program.
