Introduction to Ramblegard The Ramblegard system of wireless resident falls prevention and movement monitoring relieves the inconvenience, unreliability and limitations that are usually experienced when using “traditional” floor mats or similar in the care home. Monitoring to prevent falls and to detect wandering is a sensitive issue and the safety needs of residents have to be balanced without compromising dignity or independence - not always easy using archaic sensor pad solutions. How does Ramblegard differ? Based around four core sensors, Floorgard, Seatgard, Bedgard and Motiongard, Ramblegard is: - Wireless* (no more trailing cables or limitations such as call point socket positioning) - Discreet (in many cases, sensor pads can be placed out of sight and away from risk of tampering - Flexible and foil-free (look at this link - https://care-med.co.uk/ products-overview/wireless-falls-sensors/ to see how the use of foil sensors limits durability and flexibility) - Accurate (highly sensitive and directional Motiongard is so much more accurate and useful than a PIR that detects any movement in the room) - Behaviour based detection (watch our short video here: https:// care-med.co.uk/products-overview/wireless-falls-sensors/ to see how sensors can be placed differently to detect different falls and wandering scenarios) * We offer two wired floor mats as budget options 17

Bed Rail Compliance While bed rails can potentially prevent many falls, if fitted incorrectly they can cause death by asphyxiation through entrapment. A risk assessment that incorporates the bed occupant, proposed equipment, the bed and the mattress is essential to ensure safe use. If any of these circumstances or equipment combinations change, the risk assessment must be carried out again. MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) investigations have also shown that many serious and fatal incidents with bed rails have been caused by lack of maintenance. Bed rails must be inspected on a regular basis to ensure they are in good condition and that the distances comply with current regulations. The guidance below was correct at the time of printing (October ’18) but we recommend checking for the latest guidance here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/bed-rails- management-and-safe-use 36
Mattress Decontamination Do you know what lies beneath the surfaces of your mattresses? Let Care-Med assist in keeping your home compliant by utilising our on-site Mattress Audit and Decontamination Service. Using our unique portable fogging system and following the MHRA Audit Recommendations, this service is cost effective and provides proactive reassurance and a thorough paper trail, freeing up time for nursing and care staff. Decontamination includes a deep clean of not only the mattress, but the bedframe too, far more comprehensive than achievable by laundering or manual cleaning. The Medi9 fogger penetrates deep inside alternating mattress cores, between the cells and pipework, ensuring the deepest recesses are clean and hygienic. Once a cover is breached and significant staining has occurred, the mattress is hazardous and even if cleaned, the likelihood is that staining will reoccur. Stained foam mattress cores are particularly hazardous, harbouring a myriad of germs and bacteria. Call us on 01926 889677 to discuss mattress decontamination. Further resources and the current regulatory guidance can be seen here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/mattress- decontamination-poster 37
Equipment Servicing & Maintenance The Regulations Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 Regulation 15 Section (1) (e) Section (1)(e) of Regulation 15 states that “premises and equipment” should be “properly maintained” • There should be suitable arrangements for the purchase, service, maintenance, renewal and replacement of premises (including grounds) and equipment. These arrangements must make sure that they meet the requirements of current legislation and guidance, manufacturers’ instructions and the provider’s policies or procedures. • Providers must have operational policies and procedures and maintenance budgets to maintain their equipment, buildings and mechanical engineering and electrical systems so that they are sound, operationally safe and exhibiting only minor deterioration. • All equipment must be used, stored and maintained in line with manufacturers’ instructions. It should only be used for its intended purpose and by the person for whom is it provided. PUWER : Maintenance of work equipment PUWER requires that: all work equipment be maintained in an efficient state, in efficient order and in good repair; where any machinery has a maintenance log, the log is kept up to date; and that maintenance operations on work equipment can be carried out safely. 38
Equipment Servicing & Maintenance Keeping compliant – How can we help you? Profiling Bed Service Planned Preventative Maintenance – a proven method of reducing your equipment downtime. This may mean a 6 monthly check or an annual check for your beds where a fully trained technician carries out a thorough service and safety test – recommending parts to be replaced or adjusted. Typically carried out alongside the Air Mattress/ Pump service and Mattress Audit to minimise disruption in your home. Air Mattress/ Pump Service Air Mattress/ Pump Service Air Mattress Repairs & Servicing Pump Repairs & Servicing Air Mattress PIT (Pressure Integrity Testing) Pump PAT Testing Air Mattress Audits, Decontamination & Laundering Mattress Audit Caremed technicians are trained in mattress auditing to the MHRA standard and this is a service we provide to many of our customers. Mattresses that look good on the surface, may be hiding hidden dangers if integrity is breached. Even minor abrasions or damage to the mattress surface may allow urine or faecal matter to penetrate the cover or foam beneath; this is hazardous and unpleasant: - Hidden staining - Foul odours - Infection control risks with the presence of bacteria, fungi or spores As well as an examination of the mattress from a hygiene standpoint, our audit also includes a simple test to ascertain the foam resilience - this is to protect your residents from pressure damage and discomfort from aging foam cores that may have lost their resilience over time Our On Site Team Caremed is committed to quality and assurance and we take our obligations to customers seriously. All of our technicians are DBS checked and we hold: Safecontractor Accreditation ISO9001:2015 Accreditation to the UKAS standard. Certificate number 9158 Manufacturers training is provided to all technicians and they are equipped with modern systems to provide end-to-end traceability and accuracy. 39
