Far Hills Nominations
Please see the attached Far Hill Races nominations and weights (7 races).
New NSA Policy
By order of the NSA Steward’s Advisory Committee, smoking and/or vaping is prohibited in the
barn area and in the jockey’s quarters.
Revised NSA Vet’s List Policy
A horse may be placed on the NSA Vet’s List by the Stewards, based on a recommendation by
the race meet veterinarian, due to pre-race veterinary examination findings or lameness or
injury during a race or lameness or heath conditions observed post race. During the pre-race
examination, if the examining vet discovers a condition that warrants a second review, that
horse may be walked “in hand”, not lunged or ridden before a second examination.
Any horse that is placed on the NSA Vet’s List “for lameness” shall not be eligible for race entry
for at least seven (7) days and said horse must be examined by an equine veterinarian at the
resident stable. That exam must consist of a complete assessment of that horse with particular
attention to the findings that placed the horse on the vet’s list. The horse will be observed in
hand and under tack at a walk, trot and canter. If examination findings indicate that the horse is
racing sound, a drug screen shall be drawn and submitted to a testing laboratory. If that screen
is negative, the horse will be removed from the Vet’s List. The cost of the examination and the
drug screen shall be the responsibility of the trainer or owner of the horse.
This examination of a horse on the NSA Vet’s List differs from most flat racing jurisdictions in
that there is no designated work required other than observation under tack. This difference is
due to the widespread geographic distribution of horses involved in jump racing and the lack of
supervising regulatory veterinarians in most areas.
Genesee Valley - Course Report Update
The Genesee Valley race course was inspected on October 7, 2019 by Marion Thorne.
Turf: The turf is very thick. Abundant rain and sunshine have given us consistent growth this
summer. Course was mowed regularly this summer, and stands at 4-6 inches.
Smoothness: The course is fair hunting country and as such is quite smooth with no livestock or
heavy equipment allowed.
Compaction: 9-12
Moisture: 6-8 (average to average wet)
Far Hills Races – Course Report
The Far Hills race course was inspected on October 7, 2019 by Dean Torsilieri.
Turf: The entire turf course at Moorland Farm was aerated, slice seeded, and sand top dressed
immediately after the 2018 Far Hills Race Meeting. Spring 2019 operations included divot repair,
fertilization, rolling and aeration. Weekly mowing, weed control, and an aggressive IPM program
have continued to keep the quality and consistency of the turf at the highest possible level. The
turf is thick, lush, and has a clipped top out height of 6 to 8 inches. The permanent timber fences
have been removed with the disturbed areas restored to turf.Smoothness: The course has been rolled, aerated, and hand walked with root zone mix to fill
any divots or cupping. The surface is smooth and consistent with a giving yet firm resiliency.
There is NO vehicular traffic allowed in the course at any time.
Compaction: (90 to110 (good) Readings taken with a Lang Penetrometer.
Moisture: Average 4 to 6 (average dry to average)
Notes: Supplemental watering has been required with the course receiving on average 1 inch of
irrigated coverage.
Far Hills Races
Following further review, the Far Hills Race Committee has rescinded its announced policy
regarding apprentice riders. Apprentice jockeys will be allowed to ride, However, horsemen are
reminded that apprentice allowances are not applicable in stakes races, or all races at Far Hills.
Please note the eligibility condition for the Novice Hurdle (#123) should read:
For Four Years Old and Upward which have not won over hurdles prior to March 1, 2018 or
which have never won three races, other than three-year-old. Also, for this race, the penalty
clause should now read – Winners, other than maiden, claiming, starter or three-year-old,
or Ratings 115 or lower, 3 lbs. extra for each race won.
In the seventh race (Filly & Mare Hurdle Stakes), the weights will be assigned by the
handicapper.
Attention Trainers: With the upcoming pari-mutuel race meet at Far Hills, it is imperative that
all equipment and medication changes are made at the time of entry. Those changes include
blinkers, cheek pieces, hoods/masks and Lasix. Please pay particular attention to these details
when your entry is made and on race day upon review of your horse’s past performance.
If your horse has not previously run on Lasix, a NJRC declaration form must be submitted
prior to entry. If you need to remove your horse from the Lasix list, a NJRC declaration must
also be submitted prior to entry. These forms can be faxed to 732-462-9894. If any question
whether a horse is eligible to run on Lasix, call the NJRC Lasix verifier, Debbie George (732-
513-9942).
Far Hills Licensing
All owners, trainers, assistant trainers, jockeys and grooms participating in the Far Hills Race
Meeting are required to be licensed by the New Jersey Racing Commission (NJRC). The
easiest way to obtain a license is by going to the Commission’s website at
https://www.nj.gov/oag/racing/ and click on “Licensing Forms” on the left-hand side. Please
complete your forms in advance of your arrival in Far Hills. This will expedite the process on
race day. There is no longer reciprocity for grooms licensed in other jurisdictions.
The final phase of the licensing process will be completed Saturday morning on the grounds.
NJRC will have a licensing tent located in the barn area. The licensing area will be staffed
by 8:30 a.m. Licensing fees are as follows: 1-year Owner license $50; Trainer license $50;
Stable Name license $50; Multiple Ownership license $50; Groom license $5; Fingerprinting
$36. Payment by cash or check. If using checks, please have two separate checks, one for
license and one for fingerprinting. Checks should be made payable to New Jersey Racing
Commission.
Credentials Needed
Current NSA credentials will be honored for admission to the racecourse grounds. Participating
horsemen will be issued paddock passes upon request to Priscilla Miller. Requests must be
made by Tuesday, October 15 via email to fhrmaotr@gmail.com
Far Hills Hotel Information
A block of rooms is being held at the Delta Hotel in Basking Ridge, NJ, 80 Allen Road, Basking
Ridge, NJ 07920. Reservations 908-580-1300. Special rate on or before October 7 is $209 for
Wednesday, October 16, and $119 Thursday through Saturday. When making the reservation
identify yourself as part of the Far Hills Race Group. https://www.marriott.com/reservationAiken Fall Steeplechase
Please note that there will be a “trick riding” performance following the running of the second
race. Post times will be as follows:
First Race – 1:00 p.m.; second race – 1:30 pm; third race – 2:30 pm; fourth race – 3:00 pm; fifth
race – 3:30 pm.
International Gold Cup
Please be advised that the Maiden Flat (#138) and the Maiden Filly & Mare Flat (#139) have
been canceled.
Extra Race For International Gold Cup is as follows:
Ratings Handicap Hurdle
Purse $25,000. For Four Year Olds and Upward which are rated from 115 or lower. The
highest rated horse will be assigned 158 lbs. with all other weights adjusted accordingly based
on the current ratings. Minimum weight 140 lbs. (not including apprentice allowances).
Apprentice allowances may be claimed in this race. Entry fee $125; $125 additional if not
scratched on time Wednesday with $250 additional to start.
Two Miles and One Furlong over National Fences.
Steeplechase at Callaway
Please be advised that post time for the first race at The Steeplechase at Callaway has been
changed to 12:00 PM.
