The scoop on CSI bettering the lives of those in need mandlakazulu Primary School soars on the digital platform A unique Mother’s Day celebration
bettering the lives of those in need Growthpoint's CSR team continues to do great work in education, skills development and teacher training, as well as facilitating engaging Growthpoint Gives activities. This year, we have targeted over R18 million to contribute to a range of projects, in our different focus areas. As part of our strategic focus on education, we continue to realise the success of our projects in the early childhood development space (in literacy and teacher development). Growthpoint continues to work closely with the Loaves and Fishes Network, which aims to achieve sustainable, effective and holistic childcare training and development in the Eastern Cape Province. As part of our bricks and mortar projects in 2014 and 2015, we developed two Early Childhood development centres for them. Our project has allowed for a safer learning environment for children and the opportunity for teachers to provide a more focused curriculum. Loaves and Fishes currently educates over 1 700 children and have supported over 80 Black teachers through their Basic Education training. They also continue to engage parents within the communities they serve.
mandlakazulu Primary School soars on the digital platform The iPad Learning Lab, one of our successful education programmes, is realising great results. Growthpoint has made a strategic investment and partnered with iSchool Africa to provide iPad Learning labs for schools across the regions, with four schools supported to date. In October 2015, we launched the programme in Kwazulu-Natal, with Mandlakazulu as the pioneering school. Wendy Ngema, the iPad Learning champion from the school, was later invited to attend the South African EdTech Teacher iPad Summit in March 2016. This event attracts global education and technology experts to share their skills. She shares her experience: Hi I’m Miss Ngema, an English First Additional Language teacher at Mandlakazulu Senior Primary School. I have been teaching for four years now and never did I imagine myself being part of the vehicle of change in the education field, through technology. This programme is a game changer for me and our school. I was intimidated when I was notified that Growthpoint has sponsored my trip to Johannesburg to attend the summit. This was primarily because I was going to be with high level teachers from private schools. So I was amongst the most elite schools in the country and some from neighbouring countries, but I told myself ‘I’m here to learn…here to be a sponge. We are proud to say that this attitude has transpired to her learners too.

a history of The Pinmill Farm property was originally pinmill farm owned by Finlay Finlay and was a small holding with horses, stables and some cattle. Paolo Rivera purchased the property and it was held for a number of years by the Tiber Group, before it was developed. The original intention had been to develop townhouses, but this never took place and the property was eventually rezoned for commercial office use, in 1988. Some of the very first clients in the office park included Microsoft and MTN - their first offices measured 150m2.
