AVENUE OF ANGELS
The Avenue of Angels is a celebration of the holiday season. The kick off is the parade on Tuesday,
December 3rd at 6:30pm down Main Street. Enjoy free hot chocolate, apple cider and cookies at
City Hall. There is also a tree decorating contest that you can enter. The trees will be displayed
all week at City Hall.

Halloween on Main
When: Saturday: October 26 from 2:00PM—4:00PM
Where: Downtown Waupun
Event Description: Waupun’s Downtown Business District is pleased to host a fun
and safe trick-or-treat event for families. Bring your little ghosts and goblins to
Halloween on Main and gather goodies from participating businesses. Look for
signage and orange and black balloons displayed at participating business.

Senior Center Haunted House
When: Saturday: October 26 from 2:00PM—4:00PM, During Halloween on Main
Where: 301 E Main Street
Event Description: Come to our haunted Senior Center! It will be a wicked good
time! Wind your way through the Waupun Senior Center in a haunted maze like you
have never seen before! At the end of the maze, enjoy trick or treating at our
kitchen. All are invited to attend this free, family friendly event.

Waupun Trick-or-Treating
When: Saturday: October 26 from 4:00PM—6:00PM

Senior Center Halloween Party
When: Thursday, October 31
Where: 301 E Main street
Event Description: Attention Seniors! You are invited to a Halloween party at the
Waupun Senior Center! Play Halloween bingo at 11:00am before lunch. Lunch served
at noon. Costume contest before lunch. Prizes for all costume contest entries. There
is a suggested donation of $3.00 for lunch. Registration is required one day in
advance by noon by calling 324-7930 or registering at the Senior Center front desk.

FRIENDS
The Friends of Waupun Library is a non-profit group that assists the Waupun Public Library in
several ways. Over the years, they have purchased materials for and supported programs offered
by the library. The group earns funds primarily from book sales held on the second Monday of
every month. Book sales scheduled for the remainder of 2019 and all of 2020: October 14, No-
vember 11, December 9, 2019; January 13, February 10, March 9, April 13, May 11, June 8, July 13,
August 10, September 14, October 12, November 9 and December 14, 2020.

YOUTH PROGRAMS
The Waupun Public Library holds Storytime most Wednesday mornings from 11-11:30 am.
Storytime is held September through May. The schedule through May, 2020 is as follows: In
2019: October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; November 6, 13, 20; December 4, 11, 18. In 2020: January 8, 15,
22, 29; February 5, 12, 19, 26; March 6, 13, 20, 27; April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; May 6, 13. Storytime will
resume in September; check with the library in August for a fall 2020 schedule.

Lego Club is now paired with Game Night! Legos, board games and strategy games are played.
This event is for all ages (5 and under must be accompanied by an adult). Upcoming scheduled
Lego/Game Nights are from 4:00pm-8:00pm (open house style) on October 9, November 14,
December 12, January 9, February 13 and March 12.

The Library will be having a Stuffed Animal Sleepover the evening of October 25! Kids of all
ages are invited to drop off their favorite stuffed animal at the library for a sleepover. Since
October 25 is a no-school day, we will also be showing a movie during the day. Watch for more
information to become available as we get closer to the date.

Movie afternoons/evenings are scheduled through the fall; free popcorn and bottled water also
served. Upcoming movie titles, dates and times are:

    October 17, 2019 at 1:00pm and 6:00pm, Toy Story 4
    November 7, 2019 at 1:00pm and 6:00pm, The Lion King (2019)

Movies are also planned for the following dates at 1:00pm and 6:00pm, titles to be determined:
In 2019: December 5, December 19. In 2020: January 16, February 6, February 20, March 5 and

    ADULT PROGRAMS
    Several programs for adults are planned for the fall and winter:
     October 10 at 6:30pm, Book signing and talk by Waupun author Susan Karsten.
     October 15 at 6:00pm, Book signing and talk by Waupun author Dave Geschke.
     October 31 at 6:00pm, Autumn Aromatherapy Bracelet make and take with Tyra from
       Reiki Essentials and Wellness. Space limited, $10 fee and signup required.
     November 12 at 6:00pm, Luna Love Aromatherapy Bracelet make and take with Tyra from
       Reiki Essentials and Wellness. Space limited, $10 fee and signup required.
     November 21 from 5:30-8:00pm, Soapmaking with Linda Conroy of Moonwise Herbs.
       Space limited, $10 fee, signup required.
     January 13 at 6:00pm. Windowsill Herbs with Master Gardener Carol Shirk.
     February 10 at 6:00pm and 7:00pm, Flower Arranging with Heidi Braker of Rens Floral.
       Space limited, $10 fee, signup required.
     February 18 at 1:00pm and 6:00pm, Waupun Historical Society program.
     March 26 at 6:30pm, Genealogy program with Eleanor Brinsko.

    Technology Days are scheduled for the rest of 2019 and all of 2020! Bring your device
    (phone, tablet, laptop) in this open-house-style event and library staff will do their best to
    help you with troubleshooting and/or operation. Scheduled times are from 1-3pm and 5-7pm
    on the following dates in 2019: October 2, November 6, December 4. In 2020, we will be
    changing our times to 10-Noon and 1-3pm. Dates for 2020 are: January 7, February 4, March
    10, April 7, May 5, June 9, July 7, August 4, September 8, October 6, November 10, December

HELLO!
       SENIOR CENTER
The Waupun Senior Center is a great place for people age 50 and over or married to someone
age 50 and over to meet new people, try new things, and stay active. Volunteers are also wel-
come, whether it is for a one-time event or on a weekly basis. The center is open to all seniors,
whether you live in Waupun or surrounding communities. Each month a newsletter will be avail-
able with a detailed activity calendar. Please join us for some fun and conversations.

VAN TRANSPORTATION
Transportation for ages 60+ within the city limits of Waupun to medical appointments, hair
appointments, restaurants, Waupun Senior Center, and many more places that are closer than
you think! $1.00 each trip. Must be able to navigate two steps safely to board the vehicle. Rides
must be scheduled the day before by noon by calling (920) 324-7930. Rides can be scheduled as
early as 9:00am. The last non-medical ride is at 2:00pm and the last medical ride appointment is
at 3:00pm.Visit the Senior Center front desk or call (920) 324-7930 to reserve your spot or to
be placed on the interest list.

SENIOR CENTER LUNCH
Catered by Feil’s in Randolph. Entrée, fruit, vegetable, bread, dessert and milk included with all
meals. Brought to you by Fond du Lac County Senior Dining Program.
Who: 60 years or older, or married to someone age 60 or older
When: Monday-Friday at 12:00pm
Suggested Donation: $3.00

MOBILE MEALS
The purpose of the mobile meal program is to provide one nutritionally balanced hot meal for
five days per week on a temporary or permanent basis to home bound individuals. To be eligible
to receive delivered mobile meals, individuals must be 60 years of age or older or married to
someone 60 years of age or over, be frail or homebound, unable to cook for themselves or have
someone in home to assist them in cooking. For eligibility and assessment each individual will
receive a home visit by Fond du Lac County Department of Senior Services. To see if you or
someone you know is eligible please call (920) 929-3113. This service is brought to us by Fond du
Lac County Department of Senior Services. Residents of Dodge County are also eligible within
the city limits of Waupun.

SENIOR FITNESS                                                                      7

 MONDAY ACTIVE YOGA
 Chair support is offered for standing and seated yoga poses. This class focuses on stretching
 your whole body by focusing on specific muscles and muscle groups. Abdominal exercises, hip
 exercises and brain exercises are especially targeted. This is a 45-minute class. Please wear
 tennis shoes. FREE! Give it a try!
 When: Mondays at 9:00am AND10:00am

TUESDAY PICKLEBALL
This month we are playing indoors and outdoors. There are three indoor courts and three
outdoor courts. The indoor courts are located at the Union Youth Center located at 421 E.
Jackson Street. Two outdoor courts are at West End Park located at 200 Beaver Dam Street.
There is one court at Dodge Park located at 518 S. Madison Street. Most of the group meets at
the Union Youth Center and some at West End Park. Join us! Don’t know how to play? We will
teach you. Pickleball is a low impact sport that is easy to learn and a lot of fun! Players use
paddles and a wiffle ball to play. Instructors and equipment are provided.
When: Tuesdays at 5:30pm

WEDNESDAY WORKOUT
Move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscle strength, range of
movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball
are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support. It is suitable
for beginning to intermediate skill levels. Multiple water breaks are offered throughout the class.

When: Wednesdays at 10:00am

THURSDAY YOGA STRETCH
Move your whole body, head to toes, through a complete series of seated and standing yoga
poses and stretches. Chair support is always available to safely perform poses designed to
increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Beginners can join anytime. Breathing
exercises and meditation are done throughout the class. Please wear comfortable clothing and
tennis shoes. Try it! FREE!
When: Thursday at 9:00am AND 10:00am

FRIDAY FITNESS
This workout offers standing, low-impact choreography with standing upper-body strength work
with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball. A chair is available for support. This
class is faster paced than our Wednesday Workout. It is suitable for nearly every fitness level and
can be adapted depending on the skill of individual participants. FREE! Give it a try!

ACTIVITIES
              CENTER
There are lots of things going on daily, weekly, and monthly at the Waupun Senior Center. The
Waupun Senior Center activity schedule does change from time to time depending on the
weather, interest, and available space. We have several activities that are consistently run on a
weekly basis. These activities are highlighted below. If you have questions about the Senior
Center or activity schedule, please feel free to ask Rachel Kaminski, Program Director. Stop by
her office, call 920-324-7930, or email her at parks@cityofwaupun.org.

VOLUNTEER
Looking for something to do? The Senior Center is looking for a Wednesday front desk volunteer
and Thursday kitchen volunteer. Volunteer times are 10:00am—1:00pm. Lunch and transportation
to and from the Senior Center for volunteer duties are free to volunteers that are willing to
make this weekly commitment. Lunch is served at noon and mobile meals are ready for delivery
at 11:00am. The lunch program is managed by Fond du Lac County Senior Services Dining. Please
call Rachel at 324-7930, if interested and we will get you trained.
BINGO
10 free games of bingo are played on the 2nd Friday of the month and on other days. Prizes
include free lunch, gift certificates and more. Bring your friends and join us! Check the monthly
Senior Center newsletter for other bingo dates.

CARDS
Several card games are played each week at the Waupun Senior Center.
Euchre: Mondays at 1:00pm—$1 to play

If any portion of the building, facilities, or equipment is left in an unacceptable condition and/or damaged, the City of
Waupun is authorized to withhold all or part of the security deposit. The security deposit will be held until such time
the condition is rectified and/or the repairs have been made and then apply such portion of the security deposit towards
that expense. I shall, within five days after the corrections are made, pay the City of Waupun the remainder of these
incurred costs.

I understand that the control and management of the group is my responsibility and that I must adhere to the laws of the
State of Wisconsin, the Waupun Municipal Code, and the Senior Center Policies.

                                           The City of Waupun, Fond du Lac County Humane Society, and Waupun Area
                                           Animal Shelter, are not responsible for any injury to the pet or the owner while
                                           using the park.

                                           LEASH POLICY
                                           Waupun Dog Park is an off-leash facility. Dogs however must be kept on a
                                           leash until inside the park area. All dogs must be under complete voice control
                                           and within eyesight of the owner. If you cannot control your pet off-leash you
                                           will need to keep your pet leashed at all times for the safety and enjoyment of
                                           all users. You are not allowed to leave your dog in the park unattended. The
                                           dog park is for dogs and their handlers. Children under the age of 16 must be
                                           accompanied by an adult. No other use and/or animals are permitted.

Just For Kix, Waupun offers a variety of dance classes for ages 2 years-Adult.
Our dancers also get the opportunity to perform in dance shows,
community events, parades and also compete at select dance competitions.

The Waupun Craft Center is a community craft group that offers different types of classes throughout the year. Knitting
and crocheting, quilting and sewing, card making, are just a few examples. Each year several "Quilts of Valor" are made by
the group and awarded to local veterans; hats and mittens are knit/crocheted and donated to the Food Pantry; lap quilts
and baby quilts are made and donated to PAVE and nursing homes. If you are not interested in organized classes, an
area is set aside for those working on projects of their own.

Every Thursday night at the Waupun Senior, the Knit-Wits meet for some social knitting. Bring your current project or

                   “NOT JUST A STROLL IN THE PARK”
What: This is an open and FREE prenatal/postnatal fitness group
For Who: All moms in any stage of motherhood, plus nannies and child caretakers that have a shared interest in fitness
and raising kids.
When: Tuesday and Thursday mornings
Where: Immanuel Lutheran Church Gym, the Alto Community Center, and varied parks/trails in Waupun. This
information is posted weekly on the facebook page “Waupun Strollerobics.”
What to expect: Indoor workouts include a wide variety of exercises designed for all fitness levels with the use of hand
weights, body weight, and mats. Children have fun utilizing the open space of the gym. Outdoor workouts include a 2-3
mile walk interrupted with strength and toning exercises. Younger kids ride along in strollers while older kids ride their
bikes.
Why Join: Working out with kids is tough, but much easier in a supportive group! Both kids and moms can enjoy making
new friends. In addition to working out together, this group also plans social playdates and nights out for moms
throughout the year. Plus, most importantly, your kids get watch you lead by example putting health and fitness as a
priority in life!

FALL/WINTER EVENTS
Saturday, October 12– Wild Birds of Prey at 1pm in the Respect Our Earth theater - Have you ever wanted to see a
hawk or owl close up? This program will introduce some of Wisconsin’s raptors through a photo presentation, mounted
specimens, and LIVE birds. These are educational birds and cannot be returned to the wild due to a variety of permanent
injuries. The particular live birds may vary by program, but may include a Red-tailed Hawk, American Kestrel, Eastern
Screech Owl, Great Horned Owl or Barred Owl. Special Event Admission $3/adults, $2/children 14 and under. Members
are always free.

Sunday, October 20 – Monsters on the Marsh. 9 am to 4 pm. Visit in costume for games, scavenger hunt, cupcake
decorating, and hike through the haunted woods! Visit with our costumed critters, go fishing in the fish pond and make a
fall-themed craft to take home. “Who Says Hoo?” live owl program at 1pm in the Respect Our Earth theater. Family-
friendly activities. Special Event Admission $3/adults, $2/children 14 and under. Members are always free.

Saturday, December 7 & Sunday, December 8 –Christmas at Marsh Haven & Holiday Nature Craft Show. 10 am
to 3 pm. Spend some family time and enjoy Marsh Haven at a relaxed winter pace. Hike, explore, and discover the beauty
of winter at the marsh. Inside the nature center you can do a bit of holiday shopping and support local artisans at the
holiday nature craft show. Horse-drawn sleigh rides (or wagon rides if no snow), food and beverages, crafts for the kids.
Free admission. Wagon rides are free of charge, but donations to help buy treats for the horses are appreciated! Cookie
decorating – $1, Fish Pond – .50 cents, Food – .50 cents to $3. Crafts for the kids are free.

18            YOUTH SKATING
The Waupun Figure Skating Club is a nonprofit organization operated by volunteers
from the community. Classes include snowplow, basic skills, freeskate, moves in the
field, jumps and spins, accelerated, power, and introduction to synchronized skating.
Private instruction is available for an additional fee. The annual ice show is held in
April. Registration is in September for returning skaters and is open all season for
new skaters.
Who: Ages 3-18
When: Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Our skating season runs
Nov—April. The community is invited to our Holiday Skating Exhibition/Cookie Walk
on December 11, 2019 and our Spring Ice Show April 3, 4, and 5, 2020.
Time: Varies
Activity Fee: $24 (not including ice show) for Jump Into Skating for new skaters. Fee varies for returning
skaters depending on number of classes taken.

                LEARN TO SKATE
Waupun Hockey is proud to offer a FREE Learn To Skate program for first and second year skaters. We also
offer free equipment to each skater to use for the entire season. The Learn To Skate season runs
from November - March and is a "no pressure, come when you can" experience. Kids ages 3 and up will learn
balance & agility, forward & backward skating, stopping & starting. Sessions are held on Wednesdays 5:15pm -
 6:00pm and Saturday mornings from 11:00am – 12:00pm. Practices are lead by experienced coaches and the
Waupun High School Hockey players. You can register by clicking on the registration tab at the top of the home

 Patrons of the Winter Market can expect: locally tapped
    maple syrup, honey, eggs, seasonal produce from
    DayBreak Inc. (greenhouse grown), canned produce,
    canned pickles, fresh mushrooms, baked goods,
    homemade soaps, succulents, handmade crafts and other
    products.
 Similar to the summer Farmers Market, the Winter
    Market will feature a food stand operated by and
    benefitting a different non-profit group each month.
