17th of Tammuz : Priests train for ‘Tamid’
sacrifice offering for 3rd Temple service
[Watch] (israel365news.com)

Jun 28, 2021
While Jews around the world fasted on Sunday, the 17th day of the Hebrew month
Tammuz, a group of less than 50 gathered in Mitzpe Jericho to witness a dry-run of the
Korban Tamid, the twice-daily sacrifice performed in the temple.
The 17th of Tammuz commemorates the breach of the walls of Jerusalem before the
destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE. It is also the day that Jewish tradition
teaches that Moses destroyed the two tablets of the Ten Commandments after
descending from Mount Sinai and discovering the Children of Israel engaged in the Sin
of the Golden Calf.
The Prophet Zechariah predicts
The fast in Tammuz, the fourth month of the Hebrew Calendar, is mentioned by the
Prophet Zechariah who predicts that in the Messianic era, it will change from a day of
austerity into a day of celebration:
Thus said the lord of Hosts: The fast of the fourth month, the fast of the fifth
month, the fast of the seventh month, and the fast of the tenth month shall become
occasions for joy and gladness, happy festivals for the House of Yehuda; but you
must love honesty and integrity. Zechariah 8:19
Several tragedies befell the Jewish people on the 17th of Tammuz but one that stands
out was the cessation of the Korban Tamid during the three-year period when
Jerusalem was under siege by Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar prior to the
destruction of the Temple.
As such, the Temple movements chose that day to perform a reenactment of the
Korban Tamid service at Mitzpeh Yericho where a full-size altar was erected for such
events. A wooden model of the golden altar used for incense was also erected. The
event was held late in the afternoon, close to sunset when the evening
daily sacrifice was brought.
A full reenactment including the slaughter of lamb
Rabbi Baruch Kahane, who serves as the Kohen Gadol (High Priest) at many of the
reenactments, insisted that a full reenactment including the slaughter of lamb and the
arrangement of its pieces would only take place if the minimum complement of 15
priests were present. Unfortunately, this was not the case so Rabbi Kahane was not in
attendance. A lamb was included for illustrative purposes but was not slaughtered.
Since King David established the altar on the Temple Mount, Jews may only bring
actual sacrifices at that site. The rituals may only be performed by Kohanim, male
descendants of Aaron the priest. Though all of Israel is considered ritually impure,
time-bound public sacrifices such as the Korban Tamid, may be brought in a state of
ritual impurity. The necessary implements for the service stand ready and the only
thing preventing the beginning of the Temple service is the Israeli government’s
objection to Jewish rituals being carried out on the Temple Mount.
Rabbi Mordechai Persoof, the head of the Mikdash Educational Center, helped
organize the event. He explained that a ‫( כבס‬keves, lamb) must be less than one year old
and, as the Hebrew word indicates, is a male. Rabbi Persoff also noted that in order to
be used as a sacrifice, the lamb must be without blemish and since the lamb used for
the demonstration had the government-mandated identifying ear tag, it was
disqualified for use as an actual sacrifice.
An “animalistic soul pulling”
“When a man sins, it is his animalistic soul pulling him,” Rabbi Persoff said. “When a
Jew brings a sin offering, he places his hands on the animal’s head and presses down.
Through the sacrifices, we acknowledge our animal nature. But we also demonstrate
our intention to overcome this animal nature, to show that we are in charge of
dedicating our entire self to the service of God.”
Rabbi Persoff emphasized that the Korban was offered by the priests in an area of the
Temple that was inaccessible to the other tribes but representatives of the tribes had to
be present.
The ritual was then demonstrated without any harm being done to the lamb. A special
vessel for catching the blood was filled with colored water and the proper sprinklings
on the altar were performed.
Josh Wander, a correspondent for Israel365 News, was impressed with the turnout.
“About 49 people showed up on a fast day and stood in the heat in order to take part,”
Wander said. Wander noted that throughout the total of 830 years that the two temples
stood, the ritual of the Tamid sacrifice was only interrupted twice when the temples
were destroyed. “There is a tradition from Rabbi Elijah ben Solomon Zalman (an 18th
century Torah scholar known as the Vilna Gaon) that after the Temple service will be
restarted the third time, it will never be interrupted again.”
‘Every reenactment comes closer’
Rabbi Hillel Weiss, the former spokesman for the Sanhedrin, has been involved with
these Temple reenactments for many years.
“Every reenactment comes closer, teaches us more of what we need to know to bring
back the service forever,” Rabbi Weiss said. “But each reenactment becomes even more
difficult, raising up unprecedented obstacles.”
He noted that the annual Passover reenactment, the highlight of the year, was canceled
twice due to the pandemic.
“As more people support the events, it generates political and spiritual opposition,”
Rabbi Weiss said. “Technically, we could go up to the Temple Mount right now and
begin the service. All of the necessary elements stand ready. We are preparing several
options for each element to make this possible. But it is not our intention to make a
provocative political statement. The Temple is the source of peace, not conflict. Our
only intention is to bring about the prophesied House of Prayer for all nations.”
US military launches airstrikes against
three facilities on Iraq-Syria border

At least one facility used by Iran’s militia forces to launch and recover drones was
destroyed, a U.S. defense official with knowledge of the strikes told Fox News
The U.S. military has conducted defensive precision airstrikes against three facilities
near the Iraq-Syria border region Sunday evening.
According to Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby, the facilities are used by several
Iran-backed militia groups engaged in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks against
U.S. personnel and facilities in Iraq, including Kata'ib Hezbollah (KH) and Kata'ib
Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS).
"As demonstrated by this evening's strikes, President Biden has been clear that he will
act to protect U.S. personnel. Given the ongoing series of attacks by Iran-backed groups
targeting U.S. interests in Iraq, the President directed further military action to disrupt
and deter such attacks," Kirby added. "The United States took necessary, appropriate,
and deliberate action designed to limit the risk of escalation - but also to send a clear
and unambiguous deterrent message."
A U.S. defense official with knowledge of the strikes told Fox News that US Air Force F-
15s and F-16s were used in the operation. The strikes took place at approximately 6
p.m. Eastern Time, or 1 a.m. local time.
At least one facility used by Iran’s militia forces to launch and recover drones was
destroyed, the official added. Recent strikes by the crude drones have targeted
Americans in Baghdad and Erbil in northern Iraq.
The official said he does not expect "a lot of casualties" from the Iranian-backed forces
because of the time of the strike.
All U.S. jets returned to base without a problem, the official added.
Congressional Democrats urge Biden to
reverse Trump moves on Israel

Letter from 73 representatives calls on US president to recognize settlements as illegal
and West Bank as occupied, and to consistently condemn sides for harming peace
JTA — A letter from 73 Democrats in the US House of Representatives, including a
number in leadership positions, urges President Joe Biden to make a number of moves
to reverse what they call the Trump administration’s “abandonment of longstanding,
bipartisan United States policy” on Israeli-Palestinian relations.
Among other things, the letter sent Wednesday calls for Biden to firmly consider Israeli
settlements illegal and the West Bank occupied, two things the Trump administration
stated that it would no longer do.
“Make clear that the United States considers settlements to be inconsistent with
international law by reissuing relevant State Department and US customs guidance to
that effect,” the letter states.
It also pushes for all “relevant official US documents and communications” to “once
again consistently refer to the status of the West Bank and Gaza Strip as occupied.”
The letter’s signatories include seven committee chairs, among them Representatives
Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, who leads the powerful Appropriations Committee and
John Yarmuth of Kentucky, who heads the Budget Committee, as well as the assistant
Speaker of the House, Representative Katherine Clarke of Massachusetts.
Seven Jewish Democrats signed the letter, including Representative Jan Schakowsky of
Illinois, who initiated it. The others are Representatives Alan Lowenthal of California,
Andy Levin of Michigan, Sara Jacobs of California, Yarmuth, Steve Cohen, of
Tennessee and Jamie Raskin of Maryland.
Donald Trump upended decades of US policy in the region by paving a pathway for
Israel to annex parts of the West Bank, in addition to agreeing to Israel’s claim to the
Golan Heights and moving the US embassy to Jerusalem.
Biden officials have been reluctant to openly criticize Israel, wary of the tensions that
beset the Obama administration when its officials publicly called out Jerusalem over
differences on policy.
Biden has preferred to keep differences with Israel behind closed doors. During last
month’s conflict with Gaza, he robustly rejected calls from the party’s left to leverage
assistance to Israel to pressure it to end the conflict.
In a vague but significant line, the letter calls for Biden to “consistently” condemn in
public statements any “specific actions that violate the rights of either party or
undermine the prospects for peace.” Open airing of differences is a practice Israeli
leaders and the mainstream pro-Israel community adamantly rejects.
But Biden favors some of the eight specific recommendations in the letter, including a
resumption of sending aid to the Palestinians and reopening a separate consulate in
Jerusalem for Palestinian relations.
The letter also calls on Biden to abandon Trump’s peace plan, which envisioned an
Israeli annexation of portions of the West Bank. It additionally urges him to pressure
Israel to stop the planned eviction of Palestinian families from eastern Jerusalem,
which contributed to the volatile environment that spurred last month’s violent conflict
between Israel and Gaza.
The document reflects growing calls among Democrats to take a tougher stance with
Israel.
J Street, the liberal Jewish Middle East policy group, praised the letter, noting that it
came from a third of the House Democratic caucus. Jeremy Ben-Ami, J Street’s
president, said in a statement it was “incumbent on the Biden administration to do
everything in its power to rebuild productive ties with the Palestinian leadership and to
make absolutely clear that the US will not stand for illegal settlement expansion, de
facto annexation and displacement.”
The letter also comes as Israel’s new government, led by Prime Minister Naftali
Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, seeks to repair relations with
Democrats eroded under former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
US policy on whether the settlements are illegal according to international law has
varied under different presidents. Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Jimmy
Carter emphasized what they said was the settlements’ illegality, while Ronald Reagan
said he did not believe the settlements were illegal. Subsequent administrations
returned to regarding the settlements as illegal, but for the most part only when
officials were pressed to make clear their position.
Also signing were three of the six members of the progressive “Squad” which took the
lead last month in criticizing Israel in Congress: Representatives Ilhan Omar of
Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts; and Jamaal Bowman of New York.
Notably, three Squad members did not sign: Repsresentatives Rashida Tlaib of
Michigan, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Cori Bush of Missouri. The letter
emphasizes support for the two-state outcome, something that Tlaib rejects, favoring a
binational state.
UK Jews Under Assault: Highest Number of
Antisemitic Incidents Since Records Began
(breitbart.com)

Jun 30, 2021
Record numbers of antisemitic incidents have been recorded in the UK since last
month’s rocket attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists, figures released by the Community
Security Trust (CST) reveal.
From 8 May to 7 June, 460 incidents were reported to the Jewish charity – the highest
monthly total since records began in 1984 – with 316 happening offline and 144 online.
The previous record was 317 in July 2014 – coinciding with the last major eruption of
violence between Israel and the Palestinians as part of a decades-long conflict.
In the month before 8 May, 119 antisemitic incidents were reported to the CST.

The CST said the rise was fuelled by antisemitic reactions to the Gaza conflict and
called it “utterly predictable and completely disgraceful”.
The Campaign Against Antisemitism cited physical beatings and vandalism, chants and
placards at rallies, social media abuse and threats to Jewish children at schools and
universities as examples of the hostility faced by the community.
“None of these should be features of life in Britain in 2021, but they are for Jewish
people,” a spokesperson told the Evening Standard.
“Ultimately, the blame lies with the racist perpetrators of these cowardly incidents. But
some politicians, the media, social media companies and others have done their part in
tolerating or even stoking the hate.
“It is vital that the police investigate incidents as they arise and bring offenders to
justice.

“In a year defined by solidarity against racism worldwide, it is extraordinary how little
support there is out there for Britain’s Jews. Racism against Jews just doesn’t seem to
count.”
Last month, Greater Manchester Police’s Det Ch Insp Paul Coburn said “following
recent tensions in the Middle East”, officers had seen a “rise in hate crime directed
towards members of specific communities.”
He told the BBC anti-Jewish attacks have since “stabilised” since the force launched a
dedicated response, Operation Wildflower.
Ilhan Omar slammed by 'Outnumbered'
hosts for attacking Jewish House
colleagues: She's 'untouchable'

Omar told CNN Jewish members of Congress are not 'partners in justice''
The Fox News "Outnumbered" panel on Wednesday delivered scathing comments
on Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., after the congresswoman defended her comments
equating Israel and the United States to terrorist organizations.
"I actually appreciate the fact that Ilhan Omar is telling the truth. Now, she doesn’t
regret this. She doesn’t regret what she said. She meant it," Fox News contributor Guy
Benson said.
The panel reacted to CNN host Jake Tapper's Tuesday interview with Omar, who
landed in hot water again this month when she equated Israel and the United States to
terrorist organizations. Omar told Tapper she didn't regret the remarks and when
asked if she understood why some fellow Democrats, some of them Jewish, found
previous comments of hers about Israel to be anti-Semitic, Omar said they were not
"partners in justice" or "engaging in seeking justice around the world."
Omar initially backpedaled on her remarks this month accusing Israel and the U.S. of
"unthinkable atrocities" on par with Hamas and the Taliban. A group of Jewish House
Democrats issued a statement condemning the congresswoman's remarks and tweets,
calling them "as offensive as it is misguided." But Omar appears to have had a change
of heart.
Benson said that she is "doubling down" because she would not be held accountable by
her colleagues for her "bigotry and outbursts."
"So she’s emboldened and then notice that she calls out specifically and singles out as
not sufficiently devoted to the cause of justice a group of Jewish lawmakers within her
party. I think that might come as news to a lot of these lawmakers. I'm sure they view
that as a smear, but, once again, Ilhan Omar has some interesting thoughts about
Jewish people and I can’t say that I am terribly shocked."
"Outnumbered" co-host Kayleigh McEnany said that Omar's comments are "beyond
anti-Semitism" and are "full of hate and rage."
"It's hate speech," co-host Harris Faulkner added.
ILHAN OMAR TELLS CNN: ‘I DON’T REGRET' EQUATING US AND
ISRAEL WITH THE TALIBAN, BLAMES JEWISH LAWMAKERS
Jewish journalist Eve Barlow called on CNN to bring on an authoritative voice to
discuss what she called the far-left Squad's "problem with Jew hate" on Wednesday.
"In response to Jake Tapper's interview with Ilhan Omar's free-spewing antisemitism
on CNN last night, the same platform should be provided for a Jewish authoritative
voice discussing the squad's problem with Jew hate," she wrote.
Barlow, a freelance journalist who has written for Tablet, has come under fire from the
left for being a Zionist, even facing juvenile harassment online from prominent figures
like actor Seth Rogen.
Fox Nation host Tomi Lahren said that there "are no consequences" for The Squad, a
group of "radical left" House Democrat lawmakers including Omar, Rep. Alexandria
Ocasio Cortez, D-N.Y., Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.
"When there are no consequences and they know they can get away with whatever they
want to do and they are running the show, they got the Biden administration wrapped
around their fingers. Does anyone really expect them not to say these things?"
"They’re going to do whatever they want to do. And they also weaponize the word
racism and Islamophobia to their advantage making them untouchable. We’ve created
this culture and now we’ve got to live with it," Lahren said.
Rattlesnakes everywhere: the odd
consequences of California’s drought
(yahoo.com)

Jun 26, 2021
Len Ramirez stalked through the dried landscape, scanning the ground ahead
searching for movement. Called out to an estate in Napa Valley, the owner of Ramirez
Rattlesnake Removal company was finishing up his last job of another busy day
wrangling, removing and relocating snakes from homes across northern California.
He’d found three in just this yard, including one nestled roughly 1,000 yards from the
pool.
Rattlesnakes are everywhere these days, he says – on front porches, in potted plants,
and under children’s play equipment. “I am busier than I have ever been. Complaints
are coming in from all over the state.”
Ramirez believes the drought may be partly to blame. He opened his business in 1985,
and has seen spikes before. And while he doesn’t think the rattlesnake population is
necessarily growing, snakes are increasingly finding their way into urban environments
in search of refuge from the rising temperatures and relief from the drying landscape.
And it’s not just snakes.
Related: ‘Less water means more gas’: how drought will test California’s stressed power
grid
California and other states across the south-west are in the grips of a historic drought.
The conditions have produced consequences that extend beyond the risks of a
decreased water supply and worsening wildfires. And as urban development creeps
further into once-wild areas, the drought has also increased negative interactions
between people, animals and pests – who are all trying to adapt.
“Rattlesnakes are becoming more common in the places where we live, work and play,”
Ramirez says. After opening his business in 1985, he’s become a go-to source for
removal and public education about the snakes, speaking to the media and producing
safety videos for California’s office of emergency services. He clears snakes from
properties and public areas and relocates them to uninhabited areas.
Ramirez worked through California’s last drought – which stretched from the end of
2011 to 2019 – and saw similar patterns. But now it’s gotten worse, mostly because he
says, “there is so much development taking place, and that’s going to displace wildlife,
including rattlesnakes”.
Ramirez says he’s had jobs when he has had to remove more than 60 snakes at a time.
“I always remind parents to be a good scout before your kids go out to play,” he says.
As essential water sources start to run dry, other wild animals have also been spotted
searching the suburbs for water, sustenance and reprieve from the intensifying
conditions. Wildlife veterinarians have reported the numbers of abandoned babies or
injured animals brought into their centers and animal sightings – especially of bears
who are venturing deeper into urban areas – are surging.
“The bear population is expanding its range, so bears are showing up in areas where
they’ve never seen before,” Rebecca Barboza, a wildlife biologist who studies the trend
for the California department of fish and wildlife, told ABC News this month.
Smaller animals and insects are also coming closer in search of water – and some have
the ability to cause a lot more damage. Song birds carrying the West Nile virus, which
can cause a deadly and debilitating neurological disease, are increasingly showing up in
back yards.
“Because there’s limited water in the environment and everything is dry, the birds go
looking for water and refuge,” says Cameron Webb, a medical entomologist and senior
investigator with the Centre for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology – Public Health
who studies the mosquitoes that transmit the disease. “You get this combination of
factors that means not only are conditions suitable for mosquitoes, but also the birds
that carry the virus are more likely to be in higher concentration closer to where people
live.”
Surprisingly, disease-carrying mosquitoes, which most people associate with wet times
rather than dry, thrive in cities during times of drought when waters recede and grow
still. Webb explains that human-made structures like pipes, pits and ponds are prime
spots for stagnant water to become a breeding ground for the insects. “Fish and other
animals that live in these systems die and the mosquitoes have free rein”.
In California, public health officials have already warned residents of an increase in
virus activity and scientists believe the threat of transmissions of West Nile will
increase with climate change, especially in coastal areas of California.
Less perilous pests may also pose more problems during drought conditions. Ants,
cockroaches and rodents and other visitors also need water to survive and human
homes are typically where they go to find it when it’s absent in outdoor environments.
“Drought conditions not only mean that a pest’s water supply dries up, but natural food
sources can also be harder to find as well,” Mike Bentley, an entomologist for the
National Pest Management Association, says. “Drought often drives pests into homes
or other structures in search of these resources to survive”.
Not only does the drought mean an increase in unwanted houseguests, but it’s
changing the behavior of critters themselves. They are “incredible at adapting to
change”, he says. “This can mean rodents nesting in wall voids versus underground
burrows and feeding from garbage bags rather than fallen fruits and seeds. Or, ants
moving into potted plants to nest and feeding on last night’s leftovers.”
Middle Schoolers Given Flyer Saying They
Can Get Abortions without Parental
Permission (christianheadlines.com)

Jun 28, 2021
Students at a Tacoma, Washington, middle school recently received Planned
Parenthood flyers telling them they can get an abortion without notifying their parents
and can legally have sex at age 11.
A school official says the flyers were distributed by mistake.
The controversy was first reported by the Jason Rantz Show, which said the flyer was
posted on social media by a concerned parent. The flyers were given to eighth-graders
at Stewart Middle School in Tacoma.
The flyer explains what is legal and illegal for children and teens involving sex in
Washington state. On abortion, the flyer says: “You do not need to get permission from
your parent or guardian at any age.” On condoms, it says: “You can buy condoms at any
age.” On the Plan B emergency contraceptives, it says: “You can buy Plan B emergency
contraception at a local pharmacy without a prescription at any age.” (Plan B can work
after fertilization.) It also tells children and teens, “You are allowed to get a
prescription for birth control without your parent or guardian’s permission.”
8th graders at Stewart Middle School in Tacoma, Wash. were given flyers telling
them they could get abortions without parental consent. Parents are rightly
    outraged. I discussed
    on @foxandfriends with @ainsleyearhardt. pic.twitter.com/LSHFaoaBnE
    — (((Jason Rantz))) on KTTH Radio (@jasonrantz) June 28, 2021
Rantz criticized not only the school but the purpose behind the flyer.
“Anything that tells kids they don’t have to talk to loving parents or guardians,
particularly on serious issues like abortion or birth control, should never find its way to
a child,” Rantz wrote at MyNorthwest.com.
Further, the flyer also includes detailed information about the legal age of consent. An
11-year-old, the flyer says, can “have sex with somebody 2 years older or less.” A minor
who is 12- and 13-years-old can “have sex with somebody who is 3 years older or less.”
Minors who are 14- and 15-years-old can “have sex with somebody who is 4 years older
or less,” the flyer says.
The district’s assistant director of secondary education Eric Hogan said the flyer was
given to students by mistake.
“The flyer is not part of our curriculum and should not have been sent home with
students,” Hogan said in an email.
Hogan added, “Previously, Planned Parenthood taught within our schools and supplied
the flyer that was distributed to students. We discovered a binder of curriculum
materials was left behind for an incoming teacher to use for this year, and this flyer was
in the binder. Not realizing the flyer wasn’t approved material, the teacher sent it home
with students.”
Rantz, though, said the district should have no involvement with Planned Parenthood.
“That Planned Parenthood representatives were even allowed on campus shows poor
institutional judgment from the district,” Rantz wrote. “I suppose we should not be that
shocked that this flyer was handed out.”
