TURKEY & GULET BOAT TRIP Dr. John Johnson is LAssociate Professor of Pastoral Theology and Leadership, Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon. jjohnson@westernseminary.edu Antalya May 01 Wed Cappadocia - Konya - Antalya After breakfast you will have an early departure to drive to Iconium “Stepping into the ancient world of Turkey and visiting cities where Paul and Barnabas used the synagogue as their forum to address the local people. They angered the authorities there and were warned where Paul taught was a once in a lifetime encounter” in time to escape being attacked. You will continue to Antalya with a very scenic drive through the lakes and the rocky mountains. Dinner and “I continue to be blessed by what I learned, and to overnight. He and Barnabas went through Perga on their way from and to Antioch on their first journey. You will visit the Perga Theater, the Agora Stadium, and the columned streets. You will also visit Aspendos, one of the best preserved theaters in the world, and Side where you will see the museum, theater, and temple. Dinner and overnight will be in the port city of Antalya . (B,L,D) May 03 Fri Antalya - Myra - Board GULET (Wooden Yacht) Our morning begins with a breathtaking drive along the Mediterranean coast. Visit the ancient site of Myra, with its lovely Roman theater and Lycian tombs. Today Myra is best known as the city of St. Nicholas, where he served as bishop in the fourth century A.D. After visiting Myra embark our private GULET (wooden yacht) where we will spend 5 nights. Dinner on board. (B,L,D) Cappadocia Myra Tour Itinerary: Apr 28 Sun Depart from Portland - Fly to Istanbul Apr 29 Mon Arrive Istanbul Airport - Fly Cappadocia (Kayseri Airport) Arrive Istanbul Airport. Your tour guide will meet you after the customs and baggage claim with a “JOHN JOHNSON” sign. Meet and walk to the domestic terminal for flight to Cappadocia. Upon arrival to Kayseri Airport, drive to the hotel for dinner and overnight. (D) Apr 30 Tue Cappadocia After breakfast you will have a full day of sightseeing in Cappadocia . You will visit Göreme where you will see remains of several hundred early churches, with rooms hollowed out of the cones of volcanic ash. Some of them are decorated with scratched frescoes depicting scenes from the Bible. You will drive through the Zelve valley on your way to Kaymakli, an underground city which was an early Christian center that extended downward in the earth for at least eight floors and housed several thousand people in the eighth and ninth centuries. You’ll continue May 04 Sat Sail by Gulet - Simena - Kekova to Uçhisar, another of these early Christian communities, before Visit Simena and see the ruins of the Sunken City.
