Multicultural Feminist Therapy With Adolescent Girls of Color
    THEMA BRYANT-DAVIS

therapeutic approach with host Dr. Maysa Akbar, then demonstrates her work in a session with a

                                   Breastfeeding Doesn't Need to Suck
How to Nurture Your Baby and Your Mental Health
                                   Kathleen Kendall-Tackett

                                   Summary
Painful latch, delayed milk, low supply, oversupply, infections, and tongue-tie
are just some of the issues that can imperil breastfeeding. Postpartum anxiety
and depression can make things even harder.

This book aims to help expectant and new mothers reach their breastfeeding goals and
care for their babies with confidence. While new motherhood is challenging, there are
ways to make it easier. A mother's mental and physical health are essential, and that is
                                   the focus of this book.

The scientific literature tells us that breastfeeding creates a powerful physiological
response in the mother, which protects her mental health. When breastfeeding is going
well, it prompts a powerful physiological mechanism that can help minimize the stress

                           The Truth About Lying
Teaching Honesty to Children at Every Age and Stage
                           Victoria Talwar

                           Summary
All children lie. But when your child lies to you, it can feel like a personal
betrayal. Backed by years of psychological research, this common-sense,
practical guide reveals which parenting strategies promote truthfulness in
                           children—and which ones don’t.

Lying is a healthy and inevitable part of child development. But when do lies become a
problem? In this book, psychologist Victoria Talwar, Director of the Talwar Child
Development Lab at McGill University, presents practical, science-based strategies to
address lying and foster truthfulness in children, from early childhood to the teenage
                           years.

A Six-Point Plan for a Stronger Relationship With Your Child
Timothy A. Cavell, Lauren B. Quetsch

                           Summary
To build healthy and lasting parent-child relationships, parents need practical
strategies that meet their child's needs and address the circumstances that
                           affect their families.

Written for parents of children from toddlers to teens, this book gives parents a
science-based plan to help their children grow up to be emotionally healthy adults.

A parent's job unfolds and shifts over time. Concerns about sleep become worries
about tantrums; anxieties about sharing become fears about grades and acting out in
school. These concerns are natural, but many parents struggle to handle it all. Some
feel drained, some lash out, and some feel like the worst parents in the world.

                              Summary
Why do we procrastinate? How can we stop wasting time, and finish our
                              work?

Drawing on the latest theory and research, this book explains why people
procrastinate, and provides practical, evidence-based strategies to help you stop
delaying, complete your tasks, and fulfill your potential.

At the heart of procrastination are your emotions and ability to regulate your mood. In
this book you will learn how to dial down negative emotions, and replace old habits
with new ones that can help you stay on track with your tasks and goals. You will also
learn how to treat your procrastination with compassion, rather than harsh judgements
or complicated analyses of your motivation.

The client is the protagonist in the psychotherapy journey with the therapist
                                     supporting them on their journey.

This book argues for the importance of recognizing clients’ expertise on their own lives
and allowing them the space to generate their innate capacity for self‑healing. It offers
fresh insights into clients’ experiences and offers guidelines for how therapists can
capitalize on clients’ knowledge, skills, and strengths to build the therapeutic alliance
                                     and ensure transformational change.

Contributors present what is known about client factors, what can be inferred about

A sustainable future requires more than just technological innovation. We

catastrophe. The lessons of applied psychology are crucial in this endeavor.

In this book, Robert G. Jones combines insights from biological adaptation with a

                                     Summary
While the DSM-5 retains a categorical model of personality disorders, and the
ICD-11 has moved to a fully dimensional model, an alternative hybrid model
embodies the best of both worlds.

This volume presents the latest theory and research on the diagnosis and treatment of
personality disorders. It describes changes in the DSM-5 and ICD-11 assessment of
personality disorders, reviews empirical support for these changes, and provides
clinical guidance for diagnosing and treating the most common personality disorders.

A primary focus throughout the book is the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders

The most important thing a psychologist can do to foster a child’s well‑being
is to help build a healthy, effective parent‑child relationship.

The relationship between a child and their primary caregiver(s) is the cornerstone of
child development. Interactions in early childhood initiate a developmental cascade

The therapeutic relationship, more than any particular technique or
intervention, is the key to therapeutic success. Positive regard is a crucial
                                     component of that relationship.

This book reconsiders the role of positive regard in contemporary psychotherapies.

Positive regard, along with the therapist's empathy and genuineness, is one of Carl
Rogers' three "necessary and sufficient" conditions for therapeutic change. However,
positive regard is the least well-researched and most misunderstood of the three
conditions. It has long been conceived as a potential ingredient in the formation and

psychodynamic approach. Dr. Suzuki received her PhD from Columbia University
Teachers College. She believes that client outcome depends on the quality of patient-

to scaffold behavioral change and draws on mindfulness and experiential approaches to
                                     strengthen self-compassion, insight, and healing.

Deliberate practice exercises help clinicians develop competence in
fundamental motivational interviewing skills to better assist clients with
change goals, like quitting addictive behaviors and developing healthier
habits, and to improve treatment engagement and retention.

These exercises present role-playing scenarios in which two trainees act as a client and
a clinician, switching back and forth under the guidance of a supervisor. The clinician
improvises appropriate and authentic responses to client statements organized into
three difficulty levels—beginner, intermediate, and advanced—that reflect common
                                     client questions and concerns.

                                     Summary
Deliberate practice exercises allow students and trainees to rehearse
systemic family therapy (SFT) skills to develop basic competence and hone
                                     their own personal therapeutic style.

In these exercises, two or more trainees role-play couples or family therapy sessions
with one trainee acting as the therapist and the others acting as clients, rotating
through these roles under a supervisor’s guidance. The trainee playing the therapist
improvises appropriate and authentic responses to client statements organized into

problems and concerns encountered by SFT practitioners.
