Presidents Report Happy New Year! Now that we have started 2021 we can put a tremendously difficult year behind us and dust off our shoulders in preparation to going forward. This month is an old club classic but slightly different… The Napier RSA Membership Draw, this is a special type of draw only available to financial members of Napier RSA. The difference with this draw is that we are starting BIG! The first draw will be from 12.30pm Tuesday 5th January and will be for $3000.00! Further detail is later in the magazine. Last January we combined with both Taradale RSA and Clubs Hastings to raise money for the Australian Fire Fighters to come to the Hawkes Bay for reprieve from the tremendous fires that fire season. Due to COVID-19 and boarder closures we have kept the money on hold and do hope that we can follow this up as the pandemic is under control between our boarders. This January we have again combined with Taradale RSA and Clubs Hastings to again raise money for a very worth cause Cranford Hospice Foundation. The money raised is to assist with the new build in Pakowhai. We know that Hospice has supported many of our members and is an important part of our community. Further details are also in this magazine. An issue that has been unresolved for a few years now is the Napier War Memorial. We were fortunate to have had Guy Natusch guide us about the design and elements, he had requested a heritage architect be involved to ensure the new memorial was capable of providing rememberance, solace, education and contemplation. The Napier City Council are planning to hold meetings in the near future and we also hope to be able to publish more detailed updates too. This year brings the beginning of our Volunteer of the Month, Congratulations and Thank you to all of our members who volunteer, it is the many hands of help that keep the community going. John Purcell QSM JP Napier RSA President Congratulations Cyrus Tawhara, you were nominated for your work with the Napier City Cadets. This nomination has come forward because you have volunteer many hours for the past 20 + years to a range of youth in the Napier City Cadets, it is the work that you and the team give each week to helps mentor the next generation. You are an inspiration to us and we appreciate your kindness to volunteer. $50 credit on your membership card, a signed copy of ‘The Ever Present Challenge’ and Certificate are all part of the congratulations.
The Painter An Irish painter by the name of Seamus, while not a brilliant scholar, was a gifted portrait artist. Over a short number of years, his fame grew and soon people from all over Ireland were coming to the town of Ballydowntrou in County Derryaire, to get him to paint their likenesses. One day, a beautiful young Scottish woman arrived at his house in a stretch limo and asked if he would paint her in the nude This being the first time anyone had made such a request he was a bit perturbed, particularly when the woman told him that money was no object; in fact, and she was willing to pay up to 10,000 pounds. Not wanting to get into any marital strife, he asked her to wait while he went into the house to confer with Mary, his wife. They talked much about the Rightness and Wrongness of it. It was hard to make the decision but finally his wife agreed, on one condition. . . In a few minutes Seamus returned. "T'would be me pleasure to paint yer portrait, missus," he said "The wife says it's okay. “I'll paint you in the nude all right - but I have to at least leave me socks on, so I have a place to wipe me brushes.” This game is so popular that we will be running it EVERY TUESDAY in January. Sales for this raffle is from 12 noon each Tuesday in January @ Napier RSA All Proceeds raised will be donated to the Cranford Hospice Foundation & All Proceeds raised in January will be donated to the Cranford Hospice Foundation

Solar Power Napier RSA We have now had our Solar panels (370W x 180 panels) installed at the Napier RSA. The yield and savings have been closely monitored. Below are the charts of yield and power bill savings to date. Our Solar yield per month had made a great impact on the monthly power bill. Just in the year to date since installation and comparing to the same period last year, we have reduced our average monthly bill from $6222 down to $3818. We also have another benefit to report “Carbon Dioxide Reduction” with our very environmental sustainable power source running since mid-August we have reduced Carbon Dioxide by 26,801 kilograms! Carbon emissions are dangerous in that they threaten the livelihood of our planet, animals, humans, and ultimately, life as we know it. The amount of carbon emissions trapped in our atmosphere causes global warming, which causes climate change, symptoms of which include melting of the polar ice caps, the rising of sea levels, the disturbance of animals’ natural habitats, extreme weather events, and so many more negative side effects that are dangerous to the planet, to human and animal life, and to our future. We are proud of our financial savings but also the improvements we are making to our earth and providing the next generation a cleaner environment. YTD Bills comparing previous year same period August - December $35,000.00 $30,000.00 $32,610.18 $25,000.00 $20,000.00 $15,000.00 $19,093.41 $10,000.00 $5,000.00 $- 1 YTD 2019 YTD 2020
