What do I bring to/prepare for my audition? Completed audition form (found at the end of this packet) 30 – 45 seconds of a Musical Theater – style song One of the monologues found on the next page, memorized Song Selection For your audition, you will prepare 30 – 45 seconds of any Broadway style song. This song must be memorized and will be performed a Cappella (without background music). This can include any Disney songs, songs from musicals or other well-known tunes. For o “Happy Birthday” example: o “Amazing Grace” o “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” o “Do, a Deer” o “Hakuna Matata” (from The Lion King) o “Halleluiah” o “A Whole New World” (from Aladdin) o “How Far I’ll Go” (from Moana) o “Let it Go” (from Frozen) o “Tomorrow” (from Annie) Songs from the Show If you are having a hard time selecting a song to sing for, you may sing a song from The Lion King Jr. We will learn these together at the Audition workshop on December 3rd. Hakuna Matata (Male or Female) Sung by Timon, Pumba, & Simba Hakuna Matata, what a wonderful phrase Hakuna Matat, ain’t no passing craze It means no worries for the rest of your days It’s our problem free philosophy: Hakuna Matata He Lives in You (Male or Female) Sung by Rafiki, Mufasa, & Sarabi He lives in you, he lives in me He watches over everything we see Into the water, into the truth In your reflection, he lives in you!
Monologue Options You will choose one of the following monologues from the show to recite at your audition. Your monologue must be memorized and please feel free to add movement! I suggest using Thanksgiving Break to memorize the monologue of your choosing. At the audition workshop on December 3rd, should you choose to attend, we will go over some acting tips. Monologue #1 (Female or Male): Timon (speaking to Simba when they first meet): Ah, you’re an outcast! That’s great! So are we! Ya know, in times like this, you gotta put your behind in your past…no, no, no that’s not it…you gotta put your past behind ya! Look, kid, bad things happen, and you can’t do anything about it. Right? Wrong! When the world turns its back on you, you turn your back on the world! Repeat after me: Hakuna Matata! Monologue #2 (Female or Male): Scar (speaking to the Lionesses after Mufasa’s death and Simba runs away): Mufasa’s death is a terrible tragedy. But to lose Simba, too…For me, it is a deep, personal loss. So it is with a heavy heart that I assume the throne. Yet out of the ashes of this tragedy, we shall rise to greet the dawning of a new era – in which lion and hyena come together in a great and glorious future! Monologue #3 (Female): Nala (trying to convince Simba to come home after she finds him): Simba, I don’t understand. You’ve been alive all this time. Why didn’t you come back to Pride Rock? Scar let the hyenas take over the Pridelands! Everything’s destroyed. There’s no food, no water. If we go back together we can do something about it. What’s happened to you? You’re not the Simba I remember… Monologue #4 (Male): Mufasa (explaining the role of a king to Young Simba): A king’s time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. One day, Simba, the sun will set on my time here and will rise with you as the new king. As king, you need to understand that everything exists in a delicate balance and respect all creatures – from the crawling ant to the leaping antelope. When we die, our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass. Everything is connected in the great circle of life.
